The Lone Ranger - Part 2

I didn't see the film, so I can't judge it's quality, but the one thing I noticed in the released statements is that according to them, the critics bashed the film before even giving it a chance.

But pretty much every review I read focused on the film in it's own merits (even if mentioning other aspects of the production), whether they be positive or negative.
 
I don't understand how saying you don't want to do superhero movies makes you a *****ebag. It seems after the JL Mortal debacle none of those guys want to do anything superhero related. Hard to blame them.

The thing it seems people are forgetting (what Hunter stated) is that the vocal majority of press have been hard charging against this movie for a solid year before it came out. The reviews were just the culmination of it. It's not like they're saying the movie is gold. It's not. They're not claiming it is. They're saying the monumental bad press this movie had made it all the more impossible for the movie going public to give it a chance. Again, just look at these boards for proof that the negativity surrounding this movie had it dead in its tracks before it even came out. Same thing that happened with John Carter but this had Depp attached and SO many people want to outright hate on him when he does blockbuster fare (good or bad). And if you look at his track record he does more indie fare than big summer movies, and they bash those too. It's a specific dislike of him. That's obvious.

It's funny. So many journalists want to thump their chests and claim they can sway a movie's failure but when it actually happens and they get called out on having a clear bias they throw their hands up in innocence. There's a lack of accountability in this industry, which is sad considering how much in the public eye it is.
 
Again, being on this international promotional tour, the cast and Gore are doing their best to salvage the situation with the US box office. Either they blame the critics or themselves; and since they're promoting the film, they're gonna pick the former.

Like RottenTomatoes ... How the HELL is that the standard for determining if movies are factually good or not? And why are people listening? Most of these people you've never heard of, and they write their reviews in their pajamas while eating Cheetos on their laptops. I don't get it.

And they write such crazy mean things. I bet if you sampled ten of these critics and put them in a room, and Johnny Depp suddenly walked in that room, they would all be starstruck and in awe... and they wouldn't actually verbally say the things they wrote to his face.

There's too much power that comes from typing away on your keyboard and hitting "enter" and then having no consequences.
 
All I'm saying is that I really doubt that the budget and bad press before the movie was the reason. There movies that had plenty of bad press before release and overcame it, Titanic being the most famous example. That movie went over budget, didn't finish production on time, and Cameron made Leo cry. Critics liked the movie and the rest was history.

For a more recent example, World War Z's budget inflated after reshoots and rumored reports of Brad Pitt not even speaking to Marc Foster. The production was a wreck, but the movie got good reviews and became relatively successful movie.

I've heard stories here and there but for certain, Leo and Kate did not like Cameron, nor will ever work with him again.
 
So do the Pacific Rim fanboys think that the critics gave that movie kinder reviews because they liked the director and were rooting on an original movie to succeed? Lets not play the game that critics only tear down films, they build them up as well. Maybe above what they actually deserve.

You should be fair about your criticism of critics. It can't just be they tear down films and never, ever build them up.
 
Of course they do... they are human and have agendas.

You have a terrible opinion of who critics are. Absolutely awful.

Actually they would say the things they wrote to his face. I don't know what image you get out of critics, but most of them are pretty professional and don't go to petty insults like to seem to infer. I'm sure that 9 out of 10 would give their professional opinion to them. I don't know where you got this "cheetos and pajamas" stereotype from. They're not users from the Hype.

You act as if any person can be a critic on Rotten Tomatoes. That's not true. There's a criteria you have to fufill before being on Rotten Tomatoes. Also, with the Lone Ranger, only 4 out of 38 Top critics, the well known ones, liked it. That's 10%, which is even less than the average.
 
For weeks Leo was constantly complaining about being in the water and getting wet, which irritated Cameron to no end.

And on the last day of shooting, Leo told Cameron that he was a certified scuba diver, which sent Cameron fuming due all those weeks of complaining about being in the water! :p

I have no idea who that guy is... which is my whole point. Who the hell are these people? lol

Don't get me wrong - I hated The Lone Ranger. It sucked ... but I'm not about to make myself self-important by writing elaborate reviews about Johnny Depp when I arguably have unspecified credentials to do so. You know why? Because I'm a nobody. My opinion doesn't matter. Nobody cares what I think.

These people love the sounds of their own fingers typing away on the keyboard. This guy probably spent 3 hours on this piece when he could've been outside playing catch with his kid or something. Get a life. It's a ****ing movie.
 
Drew is a renowned film critic, and formerly Mori of Aint It Cool News. Even back then in his Aint It Cool days, he was probably the best writer they had.

He's legit. He's getting paid to write articles and review, and do press junkets. I don't know what you're talking about, Rocketman.

I wasn't on anyone's side and remained neutral...but man oh man, Rocketman's comments above was just baffling. Just baffling.

It's as if Drew is just doing this as a hobby. He's supporting his family by writing on his site. WTF?
