I don't think Disney or Depp are too worried about what the Native Americans think.

Johnny played a Native American in some movie called The Brave. Im not sure about the other one.

Its obvious hes playing Tonto because hes a megastar and Disney's looking to create another franchise. If this were a smaller movie with a smaller budget the studios would look to an actual Native American to play the role.

Kinda messed up.

Not to beat a dead horse, but they could have got a bankable star to play Lone Ranger and given a Native American actor a break.

To be honest Depp always had an exotic quality about him.

:csad:

Or we could have picked the lesser racist option and just pretended a Mexican(and by Mexican I mean anyone from Central or South America) and just everyone whistle like we don't know.

Would they be a Mexican or a Mexican't?

Were people complaining this much when they cast a jewish James Caan to play an italian Sonny Corleone? :o

Nobody complained or does about Eli Wallach who's was Jewish who played a Mexican in The Good Bad and the ugly.
Anthony Quinn was Mexican who played a lot of characters other than Mexican characters.
Nobody complained or complains that Al Pacino or Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio played Cubans in Scarface.

I guess because an Italian person can be of the Jewish faith and it wouldn't mean anything one way or the other.

You either are Native American or you aren't. You don't really have people going around claiming 180th Russian blood as proof of something.

The reveal of the alien's motivations was stupid. If the movie didn't play so straight I would have bought it in a more tongue in cheek style. But no..

yeah i agree! the guy who replied that it was great tried to make it seem like it was some kind of hit when it tanked! hope lone ranger doesnt mix sci fi with it like cowboys and aliens and wild wild west!

i agree and to the guy that said it was great the movie bombed!

That being said, I liked the first half of C vs A. Too bad Sam Rockwell and Adam Beach were wasted in their bit parts.

When I saw the picture, I didn't think anything of Depp's outfit, I was actually more surprised by Hammer's fairly boring black suit.

I'm kinda surprised that this got the free light considering the failure of past 'domino masked heroes' like The Spirit, Green Lantern and fellow Reid, Green Hornet.

Verbinski, Depp, and Bruckheimer, the same team that gave Disney Pirates wanted to do it, so Disney had pretty much no choice but to say yes. However even cutting down the budget for $250 million . . . still sounds ridiculous.

For a movie like Lone Ranger, you should be able to do it for less than $150 million IMHO. This isn't freaking Avengers we are talking about.
