The Lone Ranger

Apperantley Gore Verbinski has decided that they should build their own trains from scratch rather than hiring existing ones so that is adding to the budget as well I guess.

This reminds me on how they threw 150 mill on Dark Shadows. Another project that didnt need a budget that high

Disney needs to fire whatever executive was supposed to oversee this project.

And then, after its out and done, ban Verbinski from the studio property.

Yeah, ban the guy who made them billions on the Pirates franchise.

when they spend 150 millions on Dark SHadows didnt they spend it on US workes and their paychecks? isnt this how this works?

Seriously, G. Del Toro could have made Dark Shadows himself for less than $80 million.

250 million for a Lone Ranger movie. Just doesnt make any sense and that crap about building trains from scratch to be more "authentic" is such bs. Like the audience is really going to give a **** about the authenticity of a ****ing train. Theyre going to buy a ticket to see Depp and the Lone Ranger not to see trains.

Rich Ross is gone.

If this film bombs, people are going to point fingers at Bob Iger and new CEO Alan Horn. And Bruckheimer and Verbinski will get some critical tongue-lashing too.

250 million? Seriously?

That **** cray. :o

Less about the audience, more about the director's vision. Hey if the studio is willing to spend it, why hate?

Stupid no matter what it was. Lone Ranger just needs a normal bad guy with a consider number of posse for him to shoot. That's all I want from my western hero.

It's ridiculously to put THAT MUCH MONEY on a Western. I don't care who is directing it or who is the star.

Haven't they learned from the whole John Carter debacle? Andrew Stanton might have made them billions from Pixar, but that doesn't mean you don't reign him in when the budget gets out of hand. And now they're repeating it with Verbinski, except this time they don't have Avengers in the same summer to offset the loss.

In light of JC it definitely looks bad, but in reality, mega-budgets should only be given to people like Depp, Verbinski, and Bruckheimer. All three have paid their dues. If not them, then who would you trust?

The Lone Ranger doesn't need this budget though.

This won't bomb as bad as Stanton's John Carter. John Carter didn't have a big star like Depp starring in it.

I'll be shocked if this thing makes over $200M domestic. It'll have to pull most of it's gross from overseas, where Depp is a big sell.

I thought the same about Dark Shadows...

Bruckheimer hasn't been killing it recently.

But did all the horses really need 50 inch flat screen TVs and Sharper Image massage chairs to go with them? :o

They needed all of those, plus carrots imported from Afghanistan and specialized hookers. :o
