Looks like Wild Wild West is finally getting a sequel. Cool.

Not the first time the main character got second billing.

But if you notice in that poster, Keaton's name still appears at the top above the Batman logo, and also before the Batman title in the credits down below. That's my only complaint, not that Depp is billed first. In the trailer you get Depp, then the Lone Ranger title, and then Hammer shoved in with a bunch of other names.

Batman wasn't the main character in Batman.

Seriously, the movie should have been called The Joker.

Did you post that poster just so I can show up HF? :o

See bolded part above.

We'll, that's marketing for you. If you have two actors in a film and one is a huge mega-star and the other is a relative unknown, can you really fault them for putting Depp's name first? To be honest, I have clue who Armie Hammer is or what movies he's done.

this is the official trailer.

Jerry Bruckheimer
Gore verbinski
The Lone Ranger
Johnny Depp
Arnie Hammer

this is normal marketing. marketing is about money. its about making money. Depp is more known to the public then Hammer.

He was the twins in The Social network and that's pretty much it. Also the Prince in Mirror Mirror but eh.

There's a good reason Depp's name is first. Nobody knows who Armie Hammer is. he's certainly not going to sell any movie tickets.

The trailer leaves me lukewarm. Not a good sign.

Producers like Neal Moritz and Jerry Bruckheimer need to adapt to the times and make less expensive movies period. Lavish spending, top dollar gross, and name stars don't sell tickets now. Story and characters do.

Not to mention The Lone Ranger looks like it was made for half of the $215M spent on it.

If you look at the end of the trailer it says:

Disney and
Jerry Bruckheimer Films
Present JOHNNY DEPP
THE LONE RANGER
A Blind Wink/
Infinitum Nihil Production

A Gore Verbinski Film
Armie Hammer Tom Wilkinson
William Fichter Barry Pepper
And Helena Bonham Carter

So while I realise it's normal marketing to have Depp first, that is not what I'm complaining about - it's that Hammer comes much later stuck right next to Tom Wilkinson and not above the title where it should say:

Disney and
Jerry Bruckheimer Films
Present Johnny Depp Armie Hammer
THE LONE RANGER

Depp billed first is fine. BUT Hammer should be distinguished though from the rest of the cast since he is the title character, and not just one of many other actors in the cast.

i thought we are talking about the names durring th trailer?

who cares about the white/black text?

Depp is a producer or was creatively involved in the writting stages. Hammer is a hired actor. and only that.

Meh.

I love the first Pirates, but I'm getting a bad vibe off of this. It feels more like Pirates 3 or 4 or worse....Wild Wild West and Cowboys and Aliens. Hasn't Hollywood learned? When you make a straight western flick with quality writing, direction and acting on a respectable budget, it does very well (True Grit, arguably No Country for Old Men) while when you make it high concept (giant spiders and/or aliens!) you lose audiences.

This looks meh. And seeing Johnny Depp play a Native American (I know he is supposedly 1/8 Cherokee or something) feels uncomfortable in 2012. It is like RDJ's character in Tropic Thunder.

My thoughts.

Well RDJ's character was satirical but I know what you mean. It feels a little unsettling though Depp always had an exotic look to him if that means anything. Most likely not! ;0

Yeah, it's not quite as bad as John Wayne in Genghis Khan but it still feels a tad wrong.

I would buy it if Tonto was half NA and half white.
