I saw plenty of positive reactions the the initial Toy Descriptions and now this costume comes out which confirms said descriptions to be accurate and it's met with mostly negativity

I say how about we wait and see the real deal before we get all huffy and puffy


I mean for all we know Mikey is dressed like this just for leisure around the sewer

What about when you watched the movies? He was never human in the movies.

Being that I watched the movies after the cartoons, I saw the movie's origin for Splinter as "wrong" and didn't feel the need to make the clothing logic work. To this day I still prefer the cartoon origin, actually, even though I eventually became aware the movie was actually using the original story.

I prefer the comic origin or the reincarnation....not having Hamato Yoshi mutated into a rat. I like the cartoon but not its origin story

What I mean is if you prefer the rat origin, how do you perceive the difference in Splinter's behavior from that of the turtles? I mean, I suppose one could say his need for clothing could come from being raised by humans who wore clothing, so becoming part human made him want to imitate them by wearing clothing.

I mostly hate the rat origin because the human origin doesn't ask me to think of non-mutated animals as anything more than they are in real life, while the rat origin involves a non-mutated rat teaching himself martial arts. Both are far fetched, but the human origin far less so.

Ok, I like two origins. Splinter as the pet rat of Hamato Yoshi inwhich he wanted to imitate everything his master did...including wearing clothes. He learned ninjitsu by imitating Yoshi, so why not wear clothes. Splinter raised the turtles and they imitate him and therefore would wear clothes as well because their father/master wears clothes

And the other origin I like is the reincarnation origin where Saki kills Yoshi and his 4 sons and they wake up in the bodies of a ratband 4 baby turtles. Splinter is sure that he was Hamato Yoshi in a previous life but at first the turtles aren't so sure. So if you go by that origin, which I think they partly are, then wearing clothes should be as you said, second nature to them all.

Well,the turtles are supposed to be red eared sliders.
Does this turtle not have what could be described as a "shaped" or raised nose?

Not much outside of the shells/chests of the classic TMNT look is very accurate to actual turtles anyway.
Why are lips so far fetched if you can accept everything else?
Do you have a problem with them having teeth?
Something that they've had since the very beginning?

But weren't you saying that they should look like turtles? And now it's about design and it doesn't matter if it's based on turtle or human anatomy? They look like turtles, they are green and they have shells. If you think lips, and beaks and raised noses look ugly what would you want them to have? You do realize in the original comics and the cartoons and movies they have beaks right? I'm not sure I know what you want them to look like...

this is the most humanly approach i could live with (facewise) everything beyond this is too much and the released mask has gone over that edge...abit under lip shape is ok but the upper lip is too much and it should not be a darker green

Don't get me wrong,I grew up with the old movies and they will forever hold a special place in my heart,but "muppet mouth" is a pretty good way to describe them....and that's not really a good thing IMO

Funny enough, I was a Turtles fan long before I was a fan of any other franchise including superheroes and Star Wars but I'm way more forgiving for aesthetic changes to them. I really want to see something new. Some things are worth being a purist about but I personally don't have that desire for this property. The 90s movies are cool but they don't age well at all. The cartoon is great but uber repetitive. We're never gonna get a hardcore Turtles movie recreated off the OG comics, so I'm ready for something new and inspired. Content wise, as long as the film strays far away from the campiness of the horrendous G.I. JOE movies I'm game.

And FYI that costume mask looks like every cheap plastic mask from every other cheap costume Rubies or whoever makes. They're created for comfort, not authenticity.

I have two major issues with the look if this is indeed indicative of the majority of the film.

1. The film releases in less than 7 months. It is utterly ridiculous that our first glimpse is from a crappy children's Halloween costume. We should have a teaser trailer and some promo images by this point.

2. In the post-Marvel mega-success era, I don't entirely understand the need to reinvent the source material. Keeping it close to the source material is what set Marvel Studios' films that much higher than X-Men and Raimi's Spider-Man (both of which were considered highly successful and quality films for their time in bringing comics to film).

The addition of clothes and that tattoo seems to break away from a pretty reasonable foundation....keep it simple, stupid.

I see people arguing "why wouldn't they wear clothes?" Okay, we could go with that logic, but apparently Raph is wearing a Conan-like get up, Leonardo is half samurai armored, and Donatello is a mix of samurai armor with gadgetry. So, how does human pop culture result in this?

I mean, hell, there's a lot of art out there with more clothes on them with a more ninja influence, but we're going with samurai armor?

I don't see the clothing as necessary and the fact that it's on the halloween costumes makes me bet it will be the majority of their screen time. I'd dig it if it were in certain scenes (particularly Mikey wearing some clothes like this), but Leo sounds too much from the descriptions, Donatello moreso for his personality. If the description we have is accurate, I could see Raph working well, though.

I had low expectations to begin with. As we get closer to release without a glimpse of any promotional material, those expectations just sink further.

I'm going to REALLY have to see the CG faces, but not impressed with this. I didn't like Lizard looking like a rough skinned human's face rather than a lizard either. But I'll reserve concerns for that until I see CG in action. Even a screenshot can look kinda crappy compared to CG in action.
