The 'Make An Honest Confession' Thread! Part V: Rebirth

Two solid years working at retail. Thank god I got this library job for almost 3 years....that I worried about losing. :csad:

Six years in Retail... Not sure how much longer I can do this.

You and me both, man. Six years as of last month.

I've been thinking about something that I find kind of ironic about my job. Lets say someone has a heart attack, goes to the hospital and barely survives. He has to change his whole lifestyle as a result. Strict new medication, diet and fitness routines are imposed. The doctor he goes to is a well paid professional. The dietitian is a well paid professional. The guy behind the deli counter is a teenage kid, making minimum wage and is more concerned about his social life than in giving you the proper low sodium meat and cheese that you need.

I just got a job at in retail. It's a huge store and I work in the sports section. Start tomorrow, does it really suck that bad?

I confess that I just noticed that when I'm out with someone and its really late and I get really tired, I start to talk more and laugh uncontrollably. I almost feel like I'm drunk or high or something.

Like Willard said, it's common. Late nights + Tired = my drunk. I even take my ex's drunk calls during those moments. I wake up the next morning so dirty feeling. :csad: I should really get paid the same amount as a phone-a-girl.

I confess that I'm considering selling twy's phone number after the above post. :oldrazz:

Well, duh. I've got other ladies that'll be discounted, but if you can't pimp out your best friend at a premium, who can you?

Like every job it has its ups and downs... But I don't really have anything to compare it to. All I know is that it's quite tiring. Both emotionally and physically, but I'm sure those things go hand in hand with any type of job.

I've met some of my best friends while working in Retail for the past 6 years, and I've also met some of the most disgusting people I will ever know.

A part of me definitely enjoys Retail... I don't think I could've done this for so long if there wasn't at least a little fun to be had.

Good luck with your new job, hope you don't end up hating people.

Yeah, dealing with the public can totally turn you into a misanthrope.

God I hate people....sooo much.

Me too. Sometimes just the sight of a bunch of people milling around makes me sick. 99% of them are soooo brainless and annoying.

I've had more than my fair share of ****** retail jobs. Grew up working in my patents grocery store AND going with my dad to deliver bread, snacks, etc. Telemarketer in high school. I actually had fun with that and made good money. I got yelled and *****ed at so much so I found all kinds of ways to **** with people. Fun fact: I don't know when you eat dinner, *******! Worked at Arbys for a couple years. After that, worked in an industrial hose factory, then shoe salesman, then car detailer at a dealership then delivered furniture/electronics at Aaron's. There's a couple more, but those were the worst. I'm so grateful every day that my jiu jitsu coach came to me and gave me the opportunity to have the job I have now (managing and coaching at the gym). I love it so much and is something I'm actually proud to do and feel good doing.

Oh, I also worked at the county jail one time. That lasted for 3 days before I decided I would kill myself if I kept that job.

All I will say is that I always much prefer to be on the outside of the deli counter than on the working side. Customers dont know how good they have it.

Oh you retail workers... I'll trade you a job in church work. :o

It's hard to explain, but I got together with a friend who also works in a church and we decided it should be a service we offer that when anyone walks into the office we give them the choice of meeting Jesus now, or later. Along with being mandatory to keep a knife on the desk for just such a service.

Basically, it's passive aggressiveness all day long but instead of people you don't know *customers* it's people in the congregation who expect you to be a saint about everything and bend over backwards for any and all requests. If you don't they fuss to the Pastor/Elders who fuss at you about being the 'front' of the church. Also, your job description will say one thing, but really mean you do 100+ jobs that aren't on it that no one else does and expect you to do.

That just sounds like retail work with a lot of repeat customers.

Except your boss doesn't sit you down and require you to attend a church service on one of the only two days you have off. :o Because it's "good for communication."

Yup. Its retail with religious talk thrown in. At least I dont have any religious talk to deal with.

Touche, twilight. Touche.

I confess that I think I fall in "love (or the idea of falling in love) really quickly and I think now its more caused by possibly being desperate and trying to hit on or impress whatever girl decides to talk to me.

At first, I wasn't remotely interested in the bridesmaid that I was paired up with, but I found myself on numerous occasions trying to either impress her, or trying to make the most of the fact that we were partners to either dance or talk with her. But either way, she's not my type and there are so many other factors that would make me have zero chance with her. But yet I didn't stop from trying.
