It came from BOF but was debunked by one of their better sources, I believe.

TBH, I'm annoyed the truth behind this latest rumour wasn't made clearer - that it was a rejected design and it's unclear whether the final one will look anything like it.

I got all worked up for nothing. Woe. :csad:

How do we know it was rejected, Miranda? Do you have a link?

Your bottom picture of Mister J has a gray-ish tint. Maybe it'll be something like that. The more I think on it, the more I like the ragged clothes. This guy's on some mission, he's not gonna care what he's wearing. Perhaps in 3, he'll move on up after his enemies (Dent, if early stuff remains true) are out of the way and spring for the classic threads.

Grey-ish. Still pretty pale, though. I have to say, I agree with regwec on the clothes thing. it really is a part of Joker's character to be dressed well, he is vain and narcissistic, wouldn't tolerate bad threads. At least, I would like to see him well-dressed by the end of TDK, if he does have to have ragged clothes before then, I'll put up with that.
Like I have any choice!:oldrazz:

The cut smile-was that a Joker look, or something he'd do to his victims?

It's a look pioneered by Grant Morrison in Batman #663, where Joker has had reconstructive surgery after being injured badly at the start of 'Batman and Son'. It is a look that has met with almost universal disapproval.

Thank you. :yay:

Sounds like either Morrison tried to do a take on Burton's Joker's facial problems, or Burton was inspired by this. (Forgive me, but I'm ignorant as to the publication date of most comics, DV and TLH aside)

Thanks a mill. Puts my mind at rest somewhat.

Glad to help.

I also remembered comments Heath made awhile ago about being shown designs and that they had the iconic look. Admittedly, this was early on but it seems a leap from those to something more like Morrisons Joker...

No, Grant Morrison gave Joker a stitched up smile after reconstructive surgery from being shot in the face, not from it being carved.

Lee Bermejo pioneered the cut smile look, and his Joker looks very different from Morrison's.

Danke schon. I stand corrected. But Morrisons was still an artificial smile, and it being more recent, I guess thats what I thought of. I guess he didn't pioneer the look, just brought it back and modified it recently. Do you have a scan of Bermejo's Joker? I vaguely remember it, and do remember not liking it. Did it ever appear in any comics, or was just a once-off drawing he did?

Though it's not going to be the final design, I might as well give my thoughts on this "Joker look"...

2 enthusiastic thumbs up!!!!!!!!

I second that Regwec...

I want white skin, green hair. It's who the Joker is.

when i 1st saw images of Batman from BB i was not pleased. i really didn't want the rubber again. yet during the film Nolan et al explained why it was and i got good with it.
i feel the same will happen with Joker in TDK.

I have a suspicion that, if we were told that The Joker would wear a red nose, then some Hypesters would rush to exclaim how "creepy" the concept was, and how "old" and "tired" the nose-less Joker was. :\

Face it, the Nicholson/Romero Joker worked in the TV show and Burton film, but in the Nolanverse, a crazy-acting clown would be shot by a cop in 5 seconds, for not being at all intimidating!

Your honor, the prosecution rests.

Bale actually spokewith an accent of camera to, to perfect it.

Wilkinson's did waver a bit throughout the film, similar to Clive Owen's in Sin City

There is this interview from BOF where he showed his designs.
Lachy Hulme as the Joker, with the carved smile.
And there was also one with Denzel Washington as Two Face.

I love his drawings but I don't like the carved smile idea to begin with. :down

does anyone have that manipped bermejo's joker without the cut smile? the coloured one where he's holding a dead mobsters face in a grin with his fingers? That's my joker

I dont think they mentioned the scars were specifically for a cut-smile, just scars in general.

Whether he has raggedy clothes doesnt concern me because he has worn all types of clothing in comics from straight jackets to suits. What concerns me is the grey skin and the scars. This may be just ******ed rumors that BOF pulls out of that pathetic excuse of a human rectum that they call a "web site" but i still would disagree with the idea. Just because you are making a character more realistic doesnt mean you have to change him from the comics. You will never find a real Batman running around your neighborhood but what made Batman Begins good was that he explained an un-realistic character in a realistic way, by explaining how he got all those un realistic qualities such as a batsuit, combat training by a league of vigilantes ect. So when you take the joker, leave his classic look, just have a reasonable explanation for why he looks so un realistic.

I'm not putting much stock in this rumor. And even if it is true, I'm waiting to see an actual picture before I pass any judgment. It could be good, it could be bad. All depends.

It's scary I admit, but not in the way the Joker should be. He's a clown on the outside, a monster on the inside.

I would actually assume he would have some sort of scarring. In film, they're always playing around with textures and stuff, seeing what works best under lighting. It adds depth and makes it much more filmable. It's why Nightcrawler had those scars, and why Superman and Spider-Man's suits had those tiny patterns on it. You can really only see them well up close, but they help make it look less flat and more dynamic.

Subtle scarring would make it look less like he was just wearing makeup. It has to be a perfect medium - you don't want it to look like makeup or a natural albino skin. It has to have an unnatural yet organic look.

Of course no one who fell into a vat of bleaching agents would end up looking like The Joker. Nor would someone bitten by a radioactive spider aquire super human speed and agility. Nor would the episode in my sig really happen. But this is what comics are about; their iconic characters and their bold storylines. I want The Joker to look like The Joker, and not like Darkman.

This is all that needs to be said. Thanks, regwec. :cwink:

From viewing some of this thread, I guess I'm one the few who likes the description.

Actually its said that studio execs asked Bale to continue with his American accent during press so that people wouldn't get confused that Batman was being played by a brit. :whatever:
