The Mandalorian and Grogu

Apropos of nothing, but that shot of Luke might be my favorite in the entire saga.
Luke's last scene is full of gold:

I know two of the three PT are butt ugly. But the vast majority of Star Wars movies are lookers. This includes all the Disney ones. You can argue TLJ is the "worst" looking of them, and they still shot the hell out of it.

This? This looks much worse then the live action show we all just watched. :weeping:

I revisit this video every six months or so. Still gets me all hot and bothered.

It looks like a Disney Plus special they're putting into theaters. But... I'm going for Grogu. I adore that gremlin :weeping:

Oddly enough, I've still never seen the show... which means this will be the first SW movie of my lifetime I don't see in theatres (or potentially at all)* and yet I've still got plush Grogu in my house.

*Unless you count the TCW thing.

Regardless of the quality of the films, I think the sequel trilogy looks fantastic.
Now with the Volume and all that is like they reversed back to the prequel trilogy fake background galore.
And it's still look better in the prequels.

I hate the sequel trilogy, but it visually slaps ngl.

It's rather sad that I don't feel an ounce of hype for this. That trailer just didn't do anything for me and unfortunately does seem to lean into the whole "long episode released for theaters" fear.

I'll still see it, of course. But expectations are officially lowered.

I do think overall Star Wars content saturation and discourse burnout is the main culprit for me feeling this way too. I'd probably be more forgiving of the movie feeling super safe and uninspired if it weren't for that.

Also, re: prequel cinematography. While I know Ep 3 still has a lot of dated looking green screen and CGI, there are certain scenes (especially Mustafar) that look absolutely stunning in 4k imo, and it's still just incredibly unique and imaginative visually. I'd still take that over much of the D+ era stuff.
