The Marvel Implosion

I remember it being Quesada's mouth but I can't recall specifics. I thought it was just some ******ed 'Marvel is better' smack talk.

If you look at the talent turned off by marvel under his reign..it will be interesting to see someday in the future what it really was like under quesada, who still calls all the shots.

Marvel has had a track record of being relatively void of "old comic" talent during his reign.

I've read a few retrospectives of him time as EiC but they were mostly Marvel induced "puff pieces", like this one: http://marvel.com/news/story/13750/joe_quesada_a_retrospective

If you read between the lines at some things, specifically talent wise, you can see that guys like Busiek, Johns, Jurgens and Morrison all hit the road while Joe charged his own guys (Bendis, Millar, Loeb) with shaping the company. It's not like he did anything wrong, he was brought in at the new Millennium started, so he needed to make an impact how he saw fit. But then you look at guys like JMS, that Quesada brought in and now he takes shots at the company.

I think his philosophy of "for hire" hollywood talent has been largely bad on Marvel Comics. (i'd add the Heinenberg debacle on there as well)

I think the success on the movies would have happened anyway.

the problem is they put writers before the characters

I mentioned earlier, but it's not as if this is only something Marvel has a problem with right now. Waid, Rucka, Dixon are some of the ones that DC sent running with top brass decisions (I know there's at least one or two more, but my mind is going blank). It probably happens a lot more than you realize, it's just more in the public eye now due to the internet and such.

I'm not sure what the deal with Gail Simone is and what went on with firestorm, that book was garbage anyway.

I think DC is still a much better environment in terms of a product right now.
