If Fantastic 4 flops, they would be more anxious of what they put out. The thing is the F4 reboot, Armor Wars, Brave New World, Thunderbolts* went into development before their first flop. I bet half of those wouldn't even be considered if they had a flop much earlier.

They should be more cautious in the future. I would hate to see them go out like DCEU. After the X-Men, I'm not sure which other ips they are considering to bring in for the big screen (that don't have a mcu film yet). Something like a Ghost Rider movie reboot, would definitely not happen if they have a flop next year. The Blade reboot could be in more trouble.

Young Avengers, i hope is done. It feels like its definitely part of their plan but it might not be moving as they would like to, especially after The Marvels flopped.

It shouldn't have been an option. Captain America already has a solid three films that grew at the box office with every new film. Doing a 4th Captain America film without Steve Rogers/Chris Evans is obviously going to do less at the box office and Marvel Studios already has dozens of ips, they could give a movie. So they could have easily left off Sam Wilson as Captain America to the Avengers movies, just like how they didn't bother to make an Iron Man 4 movie with a different lead.

If we have a great movie next month, then great even if its not hitting 3/4 of a billion. But the reports of bad test screenings make this a lot worse. Also, Bucky/Sam aren't interesting enough to lead a movie to begin with.

That may have been the better option for Black Panther 2 in hindsight.

Yeah, I think this was absolutely the right move. Black Panther 2, while not a bad movie at all, feels the weight of not having the main character around.

No. WF is one of the best films in the genre and the way it grapples with grief is the main reason why. And it still doesn't stop them recasting T'Challa in the long run, anyway.

It was forced grief. Real life got in the way and they included it in the story. But it didn't make a lot of sense in the context of the MCU.

I’ve said this all along. Obviously, I wasn’t friends with Chadwick like Coogler, Moore and Feige. But I was a big fan and I appreciated all he did for Black Panther, my favorite character of all time. But I felt they made a hasty, and emotional decision. I felt that everyone, from Coogler to Feige to Moore to the cast to the fans, should have stepped back, taken time to grieve, and then reassessed the future of the character a few years later.

I don’t know the ins and outs of contracts and all that. I just know that there was nothing that happened in Wakanda Forever that could not have waited. Nothing in that film had an effect on the greater MCU. There were no plot points that couldn’t have been done in some other MCU project. RiRi could have debuted elsewhere. Namor could have debuted elsewhere. Even if they were determined to do it in a Black Panther film, there has been zero follow-up since his debut. Val could have been revealed as head of the CIA elsewhere. Nothing about that film was so urgent that it just had to happen at that time other than Disney wanted another hit.

Hard disagree. Those people losing such a beloved and trusted leader unexpectedly 100% would've grieved that way. It made perfect sense in the context of the story. It's only from outside that framework through the perspective of the audience that the whole thing is wound together with all the real life grief and loss about Boseman. But that was always going to be an inevitable part of the next Black Panther film, even if they let the franchise rest for multiple years and recast T'Challa. You can't change the basic reality that people were deeply attached to Boseman's performance and were always going to be thinking about that loss while watching the first new BP film without him.

I would have to agree with this.

T'Challa the character should have been there in the sequel through a recast, but they've incorporated real life consequences into the movie. It felt like an emotional decision rather than a creative decision that serves the character of T'Challa, well it didn't imo as Shuri wasn't compelling enough to be the new Black Panther. Now time will tell, if Marvel Studios would finally use the Multiverse as an excuse to finally recast T'Challa.

I still think they would use T'Challa's son to become the next Black Panther. Shuri as Black Panther feels temporary when they introduced the son at the end of that movie.

I can understand delaying the recast , but eventually ,someone would have decided it was time to recast the role.

I'm glad they came around to that position sooner , rather than later.

Me, too. He was too strong a character to just drop or try to work around replacing with a different character taking his place.

I don't think it was ever even remotely in question that the character would be recast eventually. If you can recast Bond and Batman and Spider-man a dozen times, there was always going to be a new Black Panther, too.

Maybe some people really believed they'd never recast him in the MCU specifically, but I highly doubt even that much was ever on the table. It was always about paying tribute to Boseman and letting the second movie go forward without saddling it with either a massive delay or a way too soon recasting that could've caused massive problems.

Honestly, nothing happened in Black Panther 2 that the movie couldn't have been delayed. Namor was introduced... have we seen him since?

And did we ultimately need a grief porn sequel where the main character dies suddenly of a secret illness that was kept hidden from everyone just because the actor did the same thing in real life? Just so an anti-vaxer actress can take up the BP mantle?

To be honest I think we could have all waited for Marvel to just recast the main character and keep going with the character's story.

I don't think F4 will 'flop', in fact I think it will be a massive hit for them, on the whole, people have wanted the characters in the MCU for a long time and the reception for the trailer, on the whole has been very positive, as far as I can tell, and so I think it will be a pretty big 'hit' for them and re-align the feel and goodwill to the MCU at large, which has fallen since Endgame.
