The Matrix Resurrections

Man they don’t make fun tie in games like Enter The Matrix anymore. I had the Xbox version. I still distinctly remember the commercials for it too

“If we fail, Neo fails, and that CANNOT happen.”

lol. Good times.

Anyone remember that the cheats were hidden in a hacking mini game? You could unlock a samurai sword to use in there, I thought it was amazing.

I remember that! I had it for Xbox as well haha.

Anybody remember this making of? I think it came with the official Xbox Magazine disc.

So it'll be good mixed reception, not bad mixed reception. The Last Jedi, somebody is gunning for you!

Threads and threads of Neo isn't heroic like he was back in the original trilogy etc. lol

Yeah, I'm sure the discourse is going to be just as much... fun.

I am definitely intrigued by that one impression. Look forward to getting a wider view of the movie.

I look forward to...unplugging from that discourse as much as I possibly can.

At the time I was disappointed that you could only play as two new unknown characters, I wanted to play as Neo... but they made up for that with Path of Neo

I'm hoping we get a trailer soon. That tweet made me as intrigued as relieved.

Seeing some speculation that this could be alluding to Matrix, but not holding my breath. Though I don't see why not. Let's get the hype/speculation train rolling already! Someone has to go first.

I'm also really digging The Matrix Resurrections title. I hope that's it. It just sounds cool and I like how it keeps with the title scheme of the trilogy.

My brain is content that this sequel has continued the "RE" title convention. Give me a trailer. I'm ready.

Enter the Matrix was so good! The idea of having a video game fill in canon gaps in the films was a stroke of genius. And the gameplay was actually a lot of fun. Even Marvel is only just beginning to exploit the immersive potential of multimedia storytelling. W's were ahead of their time with that.

I remember loving Enter the Matrix when it first came out but after watching YouTube playthroughs 18 years later, I'm thinking maybe it wasn't as good as I remembered. Regardless of how flawed it might have been, one thing you can't take away from the game is that it was ambitious as hell. I don't think a movie tie-in game ever had that kind of scope before where it included all new footage shot specifically for it.

It's a jagged mess of grey polygons now but the Matrix-y combat was enough to satisfy 13-year old me. In for a remake.

And yeah this universe was suuuper ambitious. Two films a few months apart. A video game featuring film cast that interweaves and expands the story. The Animatrix shorts that explore the world, explain back story and even a short that leads directly into the game which then initiates the events of the films. And finally a canon MMO set in the new status quo that let fans continue the story themselves.

I almost forgot all about The Animatrix. That was my favorite companion piece to the movies. And it's on HBO Max too. I should check it out again.

It's a low-key highlight, but rediscovering it is like finding a present ha

apparently this movie is structurally similar to the first Matrix but closer in tone to Reloaded. And also
the entire movie is like one big puzzle. And that there's there's more to Neo than just being an exile like the Merovingian.

I only saw The Animatrix one. It's overly due for a rewatch in my mind.

Oh man, it's so good. The stand alone stories are cool, but for my money The Second Renaissance parts 1 and 2 are essential viewing to get the full picture of what the trilogy was doing. It's like the prologue to the whole thing.

Oh man it's been so long I've completely forgotten haha. Ill get on that rewatch soon.

I assume it doesn't end on a cliffhanger or anything, more how the first is a standalone but ends on potential for more if successful.

I'd like to see it more standalone. But if Lana has something up her sleeve and a larger story in mind I wouldn't mind it but only if I can get invested in this movie first.

Would be rad if we get some industrial/metal/electronic needledrops in Resurrections. Just for the love of Neo, no dubstep please.

Also, just a heads up. It seems like the full plot may have leaked. Someone posted it and WB copyright striked the channel. Now bits and pieces of it may be circulating on other Youtube channels. Just a warning and a reminder to spoiler tag in the event that any of that stuff comes up here. I'm hoping it doesn't spread too much.

I'm avoiding it as much as I can, but I did hear a few tidbits. Definitely some interesting/weird stuff. One thing though-- re: the David Manning tweet about it being funny. I think people forget how funny the original Matrix films are, especially Reloaded. They're pretty goofy at times. There's a bowling pin sound effect when Neo hurls Smith into the crowd of Smiths. Morpheus is SO stoic in the first two films that it's almost self-parody. Also, I re-watched the original Matrix in theaters with an audience not too long ago, and was struck by how much we were laughing throughout. Yes, it's steeped in a dark cyberpunk/post-apocalyptic aesthetic, but the films definitely have a winking sense of humor about themselves. With Revolutions probably being the most somber and serious of the 3.

I'm just putting it out there, cause I think people forget that, maybe because they were younger when they saw the films and they were among the first R-rated films they saw. The first two are pretty funny. It's a series that definitely has some fun with its concept, while having huge themes on its mind.

Also, I re-watched the whole trilogy for the first time in a long time this weekend in 4k. It really holds up for me. The first film is essentially a perfect movie- the sequels have their flaws for sure, but I still think they tell a powerful story and I love the ambition. And they're honestly just badass sci-fi/action movies to watch, with a ton of uniqueness and style. The twist in Reloaded and how it completely turns everything you think you know on its head is "I am your Father" good.

“David Manning.” That’s a film nerd deep cut for ya. As soon as I saw that name, I had to Google it to see if it was a reference to what I thought it was.
