Superman Returns the moral of SR story

you know, im sick of people saying there was to many homages to those movies. IT WAS A FREAKIN SEQUEL TO IT OF COURSE THERE WILL BE SOME HOMAGES GOD USE YOUR BRAINS PEOPLE.

I know, also, its not as if Singer didnt admit as much during production about the homages.

The moral of the story is that Superman traveled thousand miles on space to look for home and his family when all of the time, Earth was it and his family was here.

HOWEVER, it was so badly executed that the theme got lost in a lot of crap (Luthor`s plot, bad editing) and tons homages regarding the first movie.
i am not hte smartest guy and a lot of times i dont understand everythig. but hey this was something obvious in SR

and really i dont think there were that many homages to begin with, they were moe like little things and they did not effect my viewing.

The problem is not the homages. The scenes, order of what happens are exactely what happens in Superman the movie. There was no need for Clark to be trapped in the revolving door again, no need for him to ask her for a date, etc etc.

well i figured he would ask her out again since, ya know, he loves lois lane.

Neither do i , they were there yes, but they didnt dominate the movie at all.

Spiderman and Spiderman 2 take A LOT from the Donner movies as well, and i dont hear you complaining about them. Both of them, like SR are great movies IMO.

There was no need for Peter Parker to do the Superman's shirt opening or to go 'Up up and away' and 'Shazam' and boy, that was idiotic.

I noticed this, too, and frankly I can't believe more people haven't said anything.

Guess if the following is Superman: The Movie or Superman Returns:
  • Superman's first appearance in public is an airborne rescue of Lois Lane. Someone monitoring it says "What the hell is that" as he flies up to make the save, thousands witness it and cheer him on, and it ends with the "Safest way to travel" line and Lois fainting.
  • Superman asks Lois out and gets ignored and caught in a revolving door. There's a montage of "super rescues" right after this where Superman demonstrates some of his powers.
  • They have a nighttime rendezvous where Superman tells Lois she shouldn't smoke and then he flies her around Metropolis.
  • Lex has a girlfriend that he uses as a decoy while he does bad stuff. She meets Superman, and ends up helping him toward the end of the movie.
  • Lois ends up in trouble because of Lex Luthor, whom Superman meets and is disabled with kryptonite, ending up almost drowning in water. After averting a bunch of disasters, Superman listens to a voiceover from his dad and then takes action to save the day.
I love Superman Returns, but it was a bit much.

yea even spiderman did the superman lol

actually i can understand the shazam thing because he was at a parade just trying to have fun and impress people. but if he wouldve said it like when he fought sandman

"SHAZAM! and good riddance"

i wouldve had a big problem

But he has dated her as Superman in the comics without revealing his identity to her in the past, i just see it as in SR they modernised and updated that situation.

I don't think that you can equate a sexual relationship to be on par though with the relationship they had in the comics at that time. I think that to do so would be a drastic change in the character. I think Superman will always be a charcter that is more conservative and traditional in those terms.

If it is supposed to be a modernization of that relationship, it really doesn't work in the essence of who Superman is as a person.

Well yes, i think he should have said goodbye to her, but as i have said before, the reason he didnt IMO is because he didnt want to see Lois in pain.

That is selfish reasoning. He's thinking of himself and not her. That to me is completely out of charcter. You've read a bunch of Superman graphic novels, where does he put himself before Lois in any story?

As i have stated before about the stalker thing (:whatever: ) this again, not only has it been done in the comics, but also, in the context of the movie, i found it acceptable, at that moment in time, he is probably feeling more lonely than he has EVER felt before in ANY medium. Hence he needed to see Lois.

Again, selfish motivation is incongruent with the core and essence of the Superman character.

Superman was driven by personal reasons - qualified by Jor-El himself as "selfish" in the Donner's cut - in Superman II. I don't know how many times I've said this but... "and being SR baseed on Donner's vision..."

And once again again, I agree, he should have said good-bye at least and Lois could have been still angry at him for going away not knowing how long his trip would take.

personally i dont really like lois lane anyway. shes such a ass.

lol, I agree. She can't even see the real man behind Superman's colorful suit and amazing deeds. But at the same time, that humanizes Superman as a character since he doesn't have to fall in love with the perfect woman.

Well i just guess that is were our morals differ, sex is casual these days, even the most moral person has sex quite frequently compared to years ago.

If it is supposed to be a modernization of that relationship, it really doesn't work in the essence of who Superman is as a person.

Again, i disagree, as i dont think it was selfish, it was just bad judgement.

Have you read The Journey? Superman goes missing in that for a number of weeks/months without telling anyone, including Lois, she just goes to his Fortress on the off chance and finds him there. If she hadnt gone looking for him, who knows how long he would have been gone. And this is when Lois is his wife!
