i think i remember reading that brett ratner made the 3rd movie to link to the 1st movie or with a similar tone or something

the only link i remember seeing was magnito holding wolverine still in place like he did in the 1st movie

otherwise it couldnt be further from the 1st movie

unless anyones got anything to add?

He certainly made the movie in a visually consistent manner, I'll give you that.

^I even thought visually it didnt look the same, not to mention several characters and plot point from the first 2 movies were either ignored, killed or taken to places no one wanted to see them go.

I think X3 was visually consistent within itself, but there are differences with the Singer movies. That's to be expected with a different director and cinematographer.

Singer favours a colder, darker, moodier look with muted colours like greys, browns, indigo and golds - you can see that also in Superman Returns (with the costume a classic case of not using primary colours).

Ratner's colour palette was brighter, warmer, more vivid and intense

The difference is more obvious if you watch all three films together.

I don't mind either look. It's a shame the look of the third movie isn't more matched to the first two but with another director and film crew that was bound to happen.

I don't think many 'normal viewers' notice though - I know people off this site who weren't even aware the director had changed. Mainstream folk don't obsess over this stuff like we do.
