It's true, it is more faithful to the book than the 1971 version. Whether or not it's a better movie is debatable. I feel like if you were to do a "fantasy draft" picking elements from both movies and putting them into one you'd have a perfect adaptation (Gene Wilder's Wonka, Freddie Highmore's Charlie, 1971 Veruca, 1971 parents, 2005 Grandpa Joe because the 1971 version is a monster, etc.)That film is THE definitive take on the book. I don’t care what anybody else says. If people disagree with me, then they’re wrong.
