The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

So the reactions to CA4 are a mixed bag, huh? I was rooting for a TWS style thriller but it seems like it was more interested in wrapping up loose ends from two MCU films.
More like Universal wants that sweet, sweet Hulk cash and Disney was like nope so they stuck Captain America in there and called it a day. :o

Yeah, not too surprised. If this ends miraculously ends up with a fresh rating I wouldn't expect it to get above the mid-60s.

I’m watching John Rocha’s show and he’s talking about Cap 4 and he said something very sobering that made me realize that this is where we are at with superhero cinema. He said, “this movie just needs to be good enough to get us to the next film.” Thats where we’re at, people, just be passable and mediocre enough so we can get to the next thing.
I can’t believe this realization only came to you just now. We’ve been there for years. :funny:

I keep forgetting it's coming out so soon. I might have to attempt a rewatch of seasons 1-3 although it's really the third season that I most need a refresher on.

Since I don't have time to watch all three seasons, I'll just watch first time reactions on youtube instead.

I don't really put much stock into RT, but for the sake of conversation, we all know Shakespeare didn't write this particular MCU sonnet.
Me neither but at least with the MCU movies going back to 2021, the critic scores have more or less fallen in line with how I felt about each movie with the exceptions of Eternals and The Marvels, both of which I enjoyed more than what their rating would reflect.

With The Eternals, The Marvels, and Quantumania flopping, Kang being abusive and not connecting with audiences, and Cap 4 getting bad reviews, you can see why Kevin has been pushing nostalgia cameos and rushing to the Mutant Saga after this mess.

I hoped that I'd be further on my rewatch/first watch of the Netflix Marvel shows by now, but it's not looking good. I hope that I'm done before the Born Again finale so that I can watch it in time with y'all.

I hear you.

I mean like we said before, I'm not going into Cap 4 with any huge expectations except for the adamantium and Liv Tyler scenes lol.

This movie could either be the clusterf*** it was destined to be, or the enjoyable clusterf*** it was destined to be. We'll see in a bit.

You know it's bad when one of the things you're most excited about in this is the introduction of a steel alloy that previously wasn't legally allowed in the MCU. :weeping:

Looks like I'll be going to a morning show of Cap 4 on Saturday. Not gonna pay a dollar more than matinee prices. :o Best case scenario, I end up enjoying it after going in with low expectations like I did with The Marvels. Worst case scenario, I end up bored for two hours.

I recently saw a YouTube video that pointed out that the 1998 remake of Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan looks much better than most modern films.

The ‘let’s fix it in post if ever’ attitude.

Lighting is also a lost art.

I’ve also brought this up also before when it comes to modern anime minimizing or eschewing shadows compared to old anime.

It didn't seem to negatively affect the previous movies

But America is a s***show right now on a level it wasn't previously
Added to a Black Cap and all the possibly even more racist countries like China

So I dunno what'll happen, and its a shame Mackie can't just lead his own film free of pre-conceptions, feel a little bad for him

Honestly, it is probably less to racism than that it would be going up against one of the biggest movies of all time. That is very much a source of local pride.

That game and Punch Out were two of the most difficult things I ever tried to play when my cousin hooked up his old NES years ago LOL.

So your cousin was going easy on you....

Saw a comment about the post-credits scene that seems to confirm a Reddit leak from some months back and oh my god if that's the plot then there's just no movie here.

Yeah, there's 3. Stiched together like a dime store Frankenstein.

Anyway, woke up, checked the tomatometer, and had a hearty chuckle.

I'm disappointed by the reaction but not surprised. Still excited to see it this weekend though.

I really hope Feige and co. get their act together soon.
I think they'll bounce back with Fantastic Four. Thunderbolts could go either way and it at least looks like a fun time but I really believe that Marvel concentrated all efforts towards Fantastic Four when it comes to this year's slate. They know a lot's riding on it.

The First Family has this summer sewn up.
