The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

I don't see how the movie tries to make his motivations seem reasonable at all. He gives his backstory to Doctor Strange who basically dismisses it with sarcasm and condescension. Most of the time the movie just hammers home what a threat Thanos is, that his motivations are just why he is so driven. He is a character with a very strong will who is willing to sacrifice whatever and whoever is in his way and is an unstoppable force. That is largely why the movie works so well. The villain is the biggest threat ever and he's killing characters that the audience loves. He is completely ruthless and unstoppable and you can't reason with him and no one can beat him. That to me is what makes MCU Thanos a great villain.
And they still haven’t found a villain to match, let alone top him. I WANT that villain to be, Doom.
I need to be convinced.

I'd say the film is mostly good, but Redford's character is underwritten, the third act with the CGI helicarriers targeting no one of consequence lacks emotional stakes, and the movie doesn't have a real ending, it just stops with blatant sequel bait.
I agree about Redford's character, and if I'm honest they should've had the balls to off Fury and let Maria Hill take over

Buuut, the third act worked perfectly for me. I didn't need a massive body count, and the much maligned "CGI Helicarriers" provided an exciting final battle. And I disagree entirely about it not having an ending

I’m a Celtics fan so I will say yes he is lol

BUT St. John’s is going far this march!
You and I may be enemies come Eastern Conference Finals :o (Cavs fan)

I’m a Lakers fan too, so despite my love and affection for you and your posting here, I probably respect you a little less now.

I’m hoping for Arkansas to knock off Kansas and then throttle St John’s in round 2.

I hold no ill will against Calipari and I remain a fan of his.

Now yall are being VERY negative in here with all this Celtics talk.

I know you’re supposed to wear green today, but damn.

Never want NYC to be great. :sneeze:

I mean ...is this really breaking news when it was already on video?

I expect you to respect me even less when the Celtics go back to back!

Does the hype have a March Madness pool?

Calipari is good, an acquired taste, and still hold it against him for leaving Umass!

Too bad yall are gonna fall short in Cleveland:o

Oh yes.

Please take us back to the days of true quality CBMs like The Phantom and Batman Forever. mArVeL rUiNeD eVeRyThInG!!!! :o

You joke but Ive been seeing a LOT of re-analysis of the Schumacher Batman movies in recent years claiming they were fun underrated gems. Especially Batman Forever. Some say they were better than Burton! Now all of a suddenly we’re acting like those movies werent instrumental in almost destroying comic book movies for good. Lol

Batman & Robin is at least good for a laugh with friends. Batman Forever is a slog.

Easy there.

Batman Forever was a cultural moment. It was a movie that featured two supervillains and introduced a sidekick and had one of the best damn soundtracks of all time.

And then B&R…

@Kane52630 back me up here.

It’s me. I f***ing love Batman Forever. Fight me!

Batman & Robin not so much, but Forever is always just a great time to me, and genuinely more creative and wild than most CBM’s today. 90’s movie audiences didn’t deserve it. 🤷‍♀️

A slog?!

You clearly never played the Batman Forever arcade game back in the day. :o
Are we talking about the Midway game I couldn't get out of the sewer in cause I didn't know about the tiny pixel in the ceiling that was covered up where you use the grappling hook? Despite renting it 6 times?

Its funny even as a kid (i was 9/10 yrs old at the time) when Batman Forever came out it didnt feel…right to me. Like, i think i enjoyed it but i could feel something was drastically different from the Burton movies i loved even if i couldn't articulate it at the time. Lmao

Both Forever and Batman & Robin are a fun time. They weren't always, especially B&R but I feel like the Nolan and Reeves movies really softened my view on the Schumacher movies. It's '90s nostalgic fun.

I OWNED the game and still couldn't make it past the first level. That was way more annoying than The Lion King game IMO.

Batman Forever Ranks Number Five among g my top 5 Batman films.I Thought it looked like a comic book. I enjoyed the performances too.
Listen, I was a huge Jim Carrey kid and loved Batman and grew up with that movie, had all the toys from it, etc. But.. by the mid 2000s, I just found it boring with the exception of the scenes where Nicole Kidman is sexually harassing Batman to a comical degree and she feels like a character in another movie. Outside of that so bad it's good entertainment, I just find the movie boring and goofy
