The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Saw Sinners for a second time today and yeah it definitely holds up and now Iove it even more than I did on my first viewing.

It does make me even sadder though that Marvel fumbled that Blade movie so badly but atleast we got Delroy Lindo out of it.

I just don't understand how they couldn't get that movie together when Ryan Coogler is just sitting on the sidelines cooking with this movie the entire time.

In an alternate reality I really wish they got Coogler to direct it instead of Wakanda Forever but I know that would have never happened.

What a waste of potential though and Mahershala Ali would have absolutely killed it in that role under the right director.
His part as West Indian Archie in Malcom X is an all timer.

Sinners' success is almost single-handely restoring my faith in the moviegoing audience. Almost. Still, a phenomenal showing for a phenomenal movie.

I want that MBJ Val-Zod project sooooo badly. You know he'd bring Coogler on board. :weeping:
I could see Sinners being a hit just from the concept as well as the Coogler/MBJ team up but I didn't see it having such a strong hold in its second weekend.

Mickey 17 was the WB movie I had reservations about. I really liked it but it's definitely not a mass appeal blockbuster.

Also loving that the Revenge of the Sith re-release came in second over Minecraft and The Accountant 2.

Coogler will definitely have his pick of the litter w WB

All I know is that when he inevitably shows interest in making a DC project, detractors will run up mountains to scream about someone forcing him to do it lmao
Gonna be honest: Coogler being freed from IP was hugely refreshing to see, I would vastly prefer him to just stick to his own original projects from now on but also he is now the guy I most want to succeed Reeves as the driving creative force behind a Batman series. Him or Flanagan are the only two guys I'd be mega hyped to get the job.

The only way I could ever see Coogler doing a Batman movie is if they cast Michael B Jordan as Batsy. It'll never happen no matter how much money his movies continue to make, but that would break the internet. Fanboys would say the most racist things that haven't been heard since the Slave Trade. :o

And to add on to the list of never happening things, good God, give Coogler the Uncanny X-Men with complete autonomy. :csad:

Coogler X-Men would be quite possibly literally the best thing ever made.

Oh sure. I'd rather he stick to original stuff after BP3 but he's a nerd and is definitely gonna be around WB for the foreseeable future so I can see it organically happening.

Something about the Morrison route w the DCU Batman feels like Flanagan should be all over it, plus he's already in the door w Clayface. My theory is that he's already in the room on BatB as well.

Was Minecraft frontloaded?

Saw someone say Coogler with Sinners is having his Nolan with Inception moment, and god I hope that's true. He can finish off the Black Panther stuff, then be free to do whatever the hell he wants that's fully driven by him IP or not, he can be the absolute driving force that doesn't have to conform to producer needs.

I still want to know what crack they were smoking when they originally announced this and Secret Wars would be out six months apart.

They were putting more "excitement" into the convention reveals than their actual productions.
