I am gonna be real, I am working today and I have never overtly cared about Memorial Day. I don't need a holiday to give me an excuse to BBQ up some steaks. I just told the wife and kids to bring me home some stuff from the Grandparents house that I can eat later lol

That said, Happy Memorial Day to yall and enjoy!

Today is graduation party day for us. We have over 50 people who have said they are going to stop by. I spent the past 18 hours smoking briskets and port butts.

Meanwhile good ole Billy Gunn is fighting off the emotions of realizing his oldest son only has three months left at home before moving 9 hours away to go to school.

Congrats to your son! Enjoy the brisket and pork butts!

Congratulations to your son!

I generally don't care about Box Office, awards, or such things as they aren't related to my enjoyment, but in the Dune vs Avengers situation I do wish for Villeneuve to be successful so my favorite filmmaker in Hollywood can keep getting big budgets to make the films he wants to make. Having IMAX exclusivity is good but that's not very widely available on the worldwide stage so it remains to be seen if they feel that's a strong enough advantage. There's no need to worry for the Avengers.

Grown ass people were really, really mad on Twitter about that spoiler in question with Lilo.
I feel like people are deliberately misrepresenting it for rage bait. I thought it worked very well in the movie.
100%. It's honestly really embarrassing.
I haven't seen it but I've read the spoilers. Doesn't Nani end up with an alien portal gun anyway so her going away to college is irrelevant since she basically has an instant commute home? What's the problem? :o

You know, after this weekend, I am thinking that Legendary isn't going to move Dune. I think they have the Imax screens now. And for Dune, it can handle a barbieheimer situation.

Doomsday, doesn't fair as well in a barbieheimer situation.
The thing though is it's not a Barbenheimer situation because those two films had a different core audience while these two very much have the same or at least a very similar one. So that kind of scenario would really hurt both movies this time. But I agree that Doomsday would hurt more due to it's obscenely large budget.
I agree that the target audience for both isn't as different as Barbenheimer was. Doomsday is probably banking on Dune to move to get the IMAX screens. Hypothetically Doomsday would hurt more without them if they release the same day.

My take is that Dune 3 should move to the May 2027 slot that Secret Wars had. It'll have the IMAX screens but most importantly, it'll give Villeneuve extra time to perfect it.

On the other hand moving means that outside the sweet Holiday season (money) it will also lose the award season (again). So while I think this is what's going to happen I really hope it won't have another delay. Every movie in the franchise had so far for different reasons. F Disney, objectively speaking. :o

Why would Denis need more time to "perfect" Dune 3?

I don't think Dune Part Two would have stood any more of a chance at the Oscars were it released during awards season. Certainly not in its original 2023 date because it would have been competing against Oppenheimer. If the Academy really wanted to give them the gold they'd have done it. If something has the momentum, releasing it outside of awards season doesn't matter. Both Oppenheimer and Everything Everywhere All At Once cleaned up at the Oscars and they both came out well before awards season. They just famously don't care as much about sci-fi.

He probably doesn't but a little more time in post never hurts.

That's exactly what I myself have said before and while it is partially true, Part Two having significantly fewer nominations and wins than the first film clearly suggests that it is somehow affected. Well, that and WB not spending money campaigning for the film, of course.

Yep. That shot of Nani, Lilo & Stitch all asleep in the same bed is at the end, while Nani’s “away at school,” thanks to that portal gun. In absolutely NO WAY is it even suggested that Nani abandons Lilo in this story any way whatsoever. At most she just goes back to being her fun sister instead of a mom, as Lilo previously said she wanted.

Actually over tinkering can be a legit problem.
I was thinking more along the lines of VFX, though based on the schedule they shouldn't be on a crunch. Denis doesn't strike me as the type to over tinker but if they move it's just a little extra leeway anyway in case there are filming delays, etc..

Not that I want a delay to happen but if neither movie budges, I'll still be seeing both that weekend.

Sure, put Hulk in a Spider-Man movie and not the Captain America movie that his villains were in. Makes sense to me.

Banner as another professor perhaps if they’re correct.

It’s believed that as part of Marvel’s contract with Sony they have to supply at least one big MCU character in every Spider-Man movie. Last time it was Dr. Strange.

Huh... I don't get that at all if true. That doesn't make any sense based on what we've heard unless it's literally just one scene where he's recruiting Peter for some Avengers work.
