The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 61

Guys I’m excited for F4 and all, but after I just can’t shake the feeling it’s not going to do that well. I just don’t feel the hype for the movie amongst the casuals I talk to who are more excited for Superman and Jurassic Park. Now I hope I’m wrong, and the movie does gangbusters but to borrow a classic saying from a certain galaxy far far away, “I have a bad feeling about this.”

Sure, F4 has some name recognition so it may do better than Thunderbolts, but it’s still a considerably less popular IP than Jurassic Parl and even Superman and I do ponder if a 60’s setting is really all that appealing to audiences.

I wish it wasn’t being released in July — would much prefer it to be released in August. Releasing F4 in such a competitive month like July is a mistake, imo.

I think Marvel wanted it to lead into Doomsday the same way First Avenger lead into The Avengers, but pushing Doomsday and Secret Wars to December of 2026/2027 blows that plan all to hell.

Eh i dont think the extra 6 month wait is going to dull the GA’s hype for Doomsday anymore than i think the 4 year wait for Spiderverse’s conclusion is gonna dull that movie’s hype. As long as it looks good people will go.

I was just speculating why they were so insistent on keeping FF in July.

But in retrospect, if they knew they were going to release Doomsday in December of 2026, they might have given First Steps more time to cook and pushed its release date back also.

Oh for sure they would have. But either way it’ll be fine. We’ve got Spiderman next summer to tide people over assuming that doesnt get pushed.

Speaking of, I’ve reached the point where I personally don’t need to see anymore trailers/teasers for FF.

The marketing is in FULL swing all throughout the NBA Western Conference games.

Congrats to your son! Enjoy the brisket and pork butts!
I had planned to take photographs to memorialize the meats. But I failed to do so because time got pretty hectic. But here was the first picture of the brisket as I was slicing it.

I also got a huge pan of burnt ends and two pans of pulled pork from the pork butt. We started with 20 lbs of brisket, but it was probably 15 after fat trimmed, and we had around 15 lbs of pork. We had 6 lbs of baked beans that I simmered for almost an hour with chili powder and we had two pans of Mac and cheese along with 8 lbs of potato salad. We had close to 60 people show up. We were left with maybe 1.5 lbs of potato salad, a few cups of beans and maybe a quarter of a pan of pork. They also ate two whole watermelons and a sheet cake.

But it was an amazing time. And I’m so proud of my son. He was valedictorian and he got a full ride he also won the principal’s leadership award, which came with a scholarship as well.

Say what you will about MJ being the new Venom, but dear god, it allows Al Ewing to write the purest, most distilled Paul hate around. God bless him.

Also, saw X3 was on. And I'm thinking, I need to rewatch X3, just as a reminder of what an X men film made by someone actively hostile to the core theme of the X-men is like.

Saw Thunderbolts. Really enjoyed it. But the biggest issue for me is John Walker. They try so very, very hard to get the character to admit that being a killer cop is wrong. It frustrates me. A big reason I haven't finished F&WS.

Oh sorry, I didn't know he had personally stated this before .
Yeah he was first talking about it back in 2019:

But back then, his stance was "the experience put me off superhero movies and I'm no longer interested."

NOW, he's saying he's ready to make those pitches whenever WB/DC gives him a call. So either time heals all wounds....or he really is finally done with Mission: Impossible and is looking for another ongoing franchise paycheck. :hehe:

Considering how inept they were and are...

Thanks for this, this seems like he is talking about two films. Did he also mention before that he wanted Green Lantern in his Superman film?

Christopher McQ making a Superman movie with Green Lantern in it... okay, you got me interested.

Downside is that it would've meant Henry Cavill coming back as Superman. So maybe it was for the best this didn't happen.

I still for the life of me can't figure out what marketing voodoo they pulled off to make the Jurassic World movies a hit
After JP 3 that franchise was all but dead
Then like the scientists on the island they made some bastard clone of the original and the next three movies hit a billion dollars, despite being utter dogs**t

Nostalgia. All that franchise needed was over a decade of hibernation for people to miss it. Plus, and I can't stress this enough, kids love dinosaurs.

It's basically two things. Those that were kids when the original JP came out are now adults and the series lay dormant for a long time but no other major dino franchise came around. So the series has the monopoly.

There’s always a new group of kids that just wants to see dinosaurs.

I saw JP many times in the theater when it originally came out. Before that I was into Dino-Riders, the Dinosaurs TV series, Land Before Time, and others. Yoshi was in Super Mario World and the 1993 movie with its dinosaur elements.

It's the same voodoo they used to make the first Aquaman movie make a billion dollars.

Because I sh** you not, for a movie that made as much money as it did, no one I knew actually went to go see it in the theaters and I don't recall theaters being packed for it.

True
But that didn't help JP 2 or 3
so just surprises me that World hit the way it did, and with no obvious nostalgia-bating by having the original actors come back (until the apparently even worse sequels)

JP 3 was met with a meh response but still did okay. The Lost World was a pretty big hit at the time. It held the opening weekend record for four years and it came in second only to Titanic at the worldwide box office that year.

Both Jurassic World and Aquaman when I saw them were very packed
