The Naked Fun in The Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 62

Gunn gets emotion right. His violence is wildly unnecessary and offputting sometimes but he knows how to dig deep inside of characters and make you feel it. When i rewatched The Suicide Squad several weeks ago, I felt like i went on a visceral emotional journey with all of those characters by the end. I think that movie remains his masterwork so far.

That said, i havent watched and dont plan to watch Peacemaker unless you all insist its must-see. The violence and toilet humor ive seen from clips of that show are just not doing it for me.

Gunn isn't nearly as pretentious about his own work as Snyder is. And respecting and understanding the source material doesn't necessarily mean being beholden to it.

I am waiting on streaming to watch Superman, because I damn well know, it may be a good movie, but so far, none of Gunn's work has clicked with me, so I am pretty certain I know I am not going to like it.

LOL we know you won’t. But for what it’s worth, I hope you like it.

Idk about "must see" but the first season was very good. Although if violence towards animals makes you squeamish, there's a scene in the middle of the season that made my fiance Nope right out of the show.

Season two reviews make it sound like "more of the same", so I'm not rushing to go watch it either

And I feel like the only reason the first season was good was because of Cena. Each episode he steadily improved and pleasantly surprised me with his performance. A lot of the performances is what salvages this guy’s productions.

But yeah, I think I’m going to wait for the season 2 episodes to build and then give it another look.

I really liked the Peacemaker S2 premiere. The only thing that felt really unnecessary was the orgy scene. That was a little much, even for Gunn.

But everything else was good. I cracked up at Chris's brother's big reveal from the shadows and it was just Roy from The Office. :o

I honestly got nervous for Harcourt for a minute there when she got carried out after losing that bar fight. But luckily Gunn just left it at that.

And then I remembered that’s his wife, so he wouldn’t go that far with her. Or atleast I hope. :o

I also wanna pour one out for "Do You Wanna Taste It?". The new intro song is fine but that'll be missed.
Ohh yeah
Just watched the new one
That song is... not good, and they didn't even bother to change up the choreo at all
give us some new terrible dance moves to go with the terrible new song lol

Definitely one of the best intros ever and I never skipped it. I’ll give him that.

But yeah this new song blows.

Peacemaker Season 2 premiere was pretty much what I expected it to be and then some and overall I did really enjoy it.

The ending could have honestly been a scene from the season finale and the recap at the beginning with the DCU retcon did get a good laugh out of me because it was a very James Gunn thing to do.

I could have done without the party scene as well but so far I really like the setup for this season and it also gives Cena more meaty, emotional material to work with.

His dramatic acting in the first season really surprised me at the time and I'm glad were getting more of that off the bat.

Also, I just love being in this world and spending time with these characters although it's going to take some time getting use to the new opening dance/song number.

It's crazy to think the original one is considered kind of iconic now because of how bad and ridiculous it is lol.

I would have let her be in the Justice Gang. :o

You guys are treating this song like it's a wicked stepmother or something. :o

I think it's fine but it doesn't have the same "get hyped" feeling as the first season. There are also a crazy amount of cast members in the intro this time, so much so that I'm surprised they didn't include Fillion and Merced in there too.

I get why people have their issues with him, I certainly have mine, but you're absolutely right in that he nails the emotional moments more often than not which is why I have no problem forgiving his weak spots.

Him jumping ship to DC is bittersweet in that he's absolutely who should've taken the mantle over from the Russo brothers, but I'm thrilled DC finally has someone competent in charge for the first time.

I was mixed on S1 of Peacemaker. Gunn’s worst tendencies popped up in that show whereas in The Suicide Squad it was more balanced. Having said that, he *absolutely* proved himself with Superman. If anything I’m impressed how versatile he can be.
