Comics The New Avengers Thread

Rumor no more...

Sounds cool.

It does. And thinking about it, i agree; Having the Skrulls directly responisible for Civil War might have come off as a cop-out...

Looking forward to more.

If they put it all together and package it correctly with the right masterminds I'll buy it just to stop some of the crap I've been force-fed.

Anyone pick up #33 this week?

Great issue. The "Skrull Debate" continues over from last issue, with Peter and Luke in each other's faces, nearly coming to blows. Cage is very suspicious of everyone, including his own wife...

A (somewhat) new villain, The Hood, begins his play as the next crimelord, ending in a confrontation with Wolverine.

Lots of good dialogue, which is Bendis' strong point.

So what'cha think so far?

Aloha,
This story is getting deeper and deeper every issue. What impresses me with this volume is that there is a definite beginning, middle and ending to this whole thing in the mind of Bendis and others. This will not be the Clone Saga where thngs were made up as we went along. That being said, The Skrull angle is Brilliant. It makes for tremendous intrigue, when some of the sharpest senses among the MU hereos, can't detect an imposter:wow: Love the writing, I can tolerate the art but would love a new artist(Perez?)Without being paranoid, it would make sense for the Skrulls to infiltrate the Underworld of Crime. It would also make sense to try and infiltrate the Super hero community as well. Was Nitro a Skrull?Speedball (Penance) is a PATSY! Peter's no Skrull.Black, and Blue and Read all Over- attempts to explain what motivated Peter to reveal his identity.MJ and Aunt May were fully aware of the consequences of Peter ever revealing his identity to the world.Xavier has to be able to identify Skrulls from mutants from humans. Great so far-get a new artist or better inker for this one.

Agreed. During Peter and Luke's arguement, it was hard to tell what was happening. I initially didnt even SEE Peter fire a webline at Luke's head.

Not feeling this artist at all.

i havent picked up the issue yet my comic shop sold out of it before i came there later in the day.

Yu is way too inconsistent to have such a high profile title such as New Avengers. Having said that though, I felt the art was actually better in this issue then all the previous ones. Still though, the art is holding me back from really grabbing onto this story going on. It's a shame too, cause the premise behind the story is pretty damn interesting.

I have a feeling this Skrull "Conspiracy" storyline is going to be golden. I love how its started up so far. The only problem behinds the "art" that I have with New Avengers is Spider-man. Like I've mentioned time and time again, Bendis has no idea of how to write the character. In 33 issues the character has basically done nothing of importance. I really hate seeing my favorite character get disrespected like that. Other then that, New Avengers is really starting to pick up. Can't wait to see what happens next.

yea i agree spidey really hasnt done much of importance in the new avengers. I really didnt like when he joined in the first place. The character is better suited to be the solo/loner hero which he originally was. Also i cant wait to see where this skrull storyline is going to go and all that. Like how long have the skrulls been here who they are impersonating and were they the reason behind civil war, avengers dissembled, secret wars 2 and all that from the past 2 yrs. Also i really hope for the new teams on amazing doesnt mean spidey is getting rebooted cause it will be silly cause of this ongoing skrull storyline to reboot spidey and no other characters from my knewledge are getting a reboot so it would be a total mistake to do.

Upcoming Avengers stuff....lots of symbiotes! :sym:

Since the Skrull on presence Earth was first revealed (albeit with more questions than answers) in New Avengers, readers have wondered just when it will start spreading into other titles. The answer is November, with Mighty Avengers #7, although it looks as something else is spreading there as well…

As an added bonus, here’s a look at some interior pages from New Avengers #7. And look for additional Marvel solicitation previews (as usual) over the weekend.

Oh yeah!! Plus, Wolverine has a bone to pick with Spider-Woman about a little green-skinned something. Oh, and the Hood isn't wasting any time setting himself up as the kingpin of all super-villains.

But no Spidey in spotlight in these Venom stories? It sounds...wrong

Damn I can't wait until Bagley hops onboard. I'm really interested to see what he can do what characters other then the ones in the Spider-verse. The guy is so talented and I'm glad that he goes from one mainstream title (USM) to another like Mighty Avengers even if its only for a few issues.

Check New Warriors (volume 1, of course) for some old-school non-Spidey Bagley art.

New issue out today.

Now this was the best issue of New Avengers in some time now. This Skrull "Conspiracy" is shaping up to be one really intense event. Mighty Avengers is still easily the better of the two titles (In large part because of the art) but New Avengers has been steadily improving. The Hood is a bad ass character. I might sound like a broken record with this but once again Spider-man is pretty much useless. I would love this title so much more if he wasn't on the team. It kills me to see my favorite character being used like this. The guy does absolutely nothing whatsoever. Even his humor sounds so forced, childish and lame.

Whatever though......Issue was great.

Besides, Wolverine gets his little soldier shot off....That alone is worth the price.

You're right. Spidey plays absolutely no role in NA other than attracting Spidey fans

I can't say anything about this issue as I haven't read it yet, (I've got a flight in a few hours with a great stack of comics to make me not think about gremlins on the wing, ;) but I do have to say, Spidey's role in NA has been pretty great post-Civil War.

One of the reasons I hated NA was the blatant sell out tactics to have Wolvie, and ESPECIALLY Spidey on the team. They pretty much put him on the team so you could have his image add to the artwork on the covers, and to draw us in.

But post-Civil War, (once again, can't say this ish,) he's been a real integral part of the team IMO. He bounces off of Clint awesomely, it's a real street level team, and he's the greatest street level hero of all time so he should be there!

And moments like between him and Cage last ish shows how important he is at balancing things out personality-wise in the team. Also, the issue before last where he comes out of the plane to help glide the damn thing, shows his usefulness, courage, and even that he's always using his scientific mind in tense situations.

Granted, I still thinks there's a lot more to be done for me to really feel good about Spidey being in NA, but I've been pleasantly surprised with this entire arc of NA. And I really don't understand what a lot of people are *****ing about with Yu, his stuff kicks serious arse!

And best of all, the NA are officially Marvel's A-Team! How cool is that! And Spidey's there! In his black threads! Man I wish he could keep 'em for longer :(

This is what I'm confused about, apprently, from BND onwards, Spidey (in JQ's words,) is going to be much less involved in the MU just like the old days. But Bendis officially stated that he'll stay in NA after BND?

Okay, just 'cause he's in NA doesn't mean that he's heavily involved in the main MU, but we still haven't seen ANYTHING about him in these books post OMD. Which is ESPECIALLY weird with the whole symbiote thing going on.

I may be paranoid about this, but I think I have reason to be:hyper:

Agreed on all points.

NA was slacking a bit a few months ago but it seems to have gotten back on track. Like I said before, this was one of the better issues in a long time. That said however, how is Spidey's role any different now then it was before the Civil War? At least Wolverine is serving some sought of purpose on the team. Spider-man has yet to do ANYTHING of importance whatsoever. Nothing at all. He's being outshined by Luke Cage? Come on now..... This is Marvel's top dog and Iron Fist, Luke Cage and company are making him look like a chump.

Bendis is my favorite writer hands down, but he doesn't know how to write 616 Spider-man. I was giving him a pass on the first few issues of New Avengers but here we are..30 issues later and still no improvement.

The Hood is back?! Sweet! I just may pick up these issues.
