The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

It's not separate canon.

Major would your u mind explaining please? From what all I've gathered this is a complete remake/reboot with all new cast and the original surviving team will cameo only in non related fashion.

It's a hard reboot. It's not a soft reboot/sequel, ala a legacy sequel in the rein of Creed or The Force Awakens.

Majik1387 is in firm belief that this movie is actually a sequel for some reason. I've tried explaining it to him that it's not, but he's in denial.

-Complete reboot, ignoring the previous films
-Original actors cameo'ing as in insignificant background characters (Dan as a taxi driver, Ernie Hudson as real estate agent, etc.)
-Firehouse as a cameo, but the ladies settle on a place above a Chinese restaurant instead (set pics confirm this)
-No Slimer
-No Stay-Puft monster (word is that stay-puft will appear in some form, more likely as a commercial for marshmallows)
-The original GB theme will appear "in some form" as quoted by Paul Feig (probably a remake or a tune on the radio)
-All the ghosts are people from different time periods and the giant ghost monster is a T-Rex (because, why not dinosaur ghosts?)

I just want to see a trailer at this point out of curiosity.

maybe a ghost went back in time and changed the universe. hahaha :)

I personally felt a soft reboot, where as it's in continuity, but headed in a new direction was the best answer. Everything has suggested it's a straight up reboot , sure some fans are hoping they reveal a twist in marketing that suggests it's in continuation, but it looks unlikely.

The actors are portraying the original characters, just decades on living different lives, maybe they have been gagged by the government to keep quiet - that the new characters tracked down the originals to get information, all orchestrated by Ray Stantz on the old dark web.

That the new team want to carry it on and show respect in what they do, as they do it.

Obviously this looks unlikely, it's a straight up new version but yeah, i will watch it, hoping it is at least, after all, a good movie.

from what Ive read - and not sure how legit it is

but it seems like McCarthy and Wiigs characters started in academia together, wrote a book about the paranormal, they had a professional split...Wiig moved on to an Ivy League job and gets cast out when the book resurfaces

A GB fan did approach Feig last year and told him his idea for the reboot, about how this reboot takes place in a world where the original GB films exist and the ladies are fans and just use the ideas from the movies. Feig responded "Oh we have a few tricks up our sleeve..."

Like I said, they're not going to ignore original movie canon. And just because it may not be referenced vocally, does not mean it's not connected.

sequels where the new team are fans of the old guys is a fanboys dream right? :)

If it is connected, that they are in the same universe and pick up where they left off, i can take that, 100% - as long as the cameo's are the original characters and not 'steve the cab driver' etc.

In fact, ghostbusters are the only property i can think of, where cosplaying them, whilst doing what they did, as a nod, actually works.

But, if Feig is hinting that they watched the movies, and decided to be them for real... now that, i could not handle. JUST GIVE US A TRAILER

It's been done before. Immortan Joe in Fury Road is the same actor that played Toecutter in Mad Max. Different characters, same actor. There's story potential for the old 'busters to show up in some capacity. It opens the way to a storyline where the new 'busters try to figure out why the old ones have hung up their proton packs. Or something. But I'm spinning off into fanfic.

who cares really? time moves on, people get old

new story, new people

Whatever they end up doing, is clear the care about the original films: they kept the exact same logo and font, the same tagline, and they cleverly updated all the gadgets.
I don't think they're ignoring the previous films, but building upon.

Well, one could also say they are only using that stuff to cash in on the nostalgia aspect of the property, especially since they did away with the old characters.

It's hard to say for sure.

They "did away" with the old characters because there's nothing they could have done with them. The movie is damned if they did, damned because they didn't.
