The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

It is true, unless they nailed it, it would either ruin the original or just be a miss step.

Personally, i feel there could have been a sub plot of the government keeping it under wraps and paying off the original team.

Well, one could also say they are only using that stuff to cash in on the nostalgia aspect of the property, especially since they did away with the old characters.

It's hard to say for sure.

Yeah. That could be the case too. Hopefully not. It wouldn't be a smart move.

Well said, Hunter.

I have no idea how this film will turn out but I'm completely supportive of an all female team and I've been a hardcore fan since the beginning. (Ghostbusters was a huge staple for any 80's kid).

I'm definitely going to go in this with an open mind and hope for the best.

It's the same for me, Ghostbusters is a movie from my childhood, like BTTF, the Star Wars and Indy films etc...However I don't see an issue with a different take for a new generation, and in truth I think going all female is a smart move as it avoids direct comparison with the original characters, something that rarely ends well for the newer incarnation.

If it works then great, if not it doesn't harm my Blu Ray copy of the original. :D

Maybe I'm late to the party, but anyone else notice that Sigourney Weaver is in this film playing Dana Barrett like she was in the original films? (at least that's how they have her listed online)

Really....

Link? As far as we know she has a small bit cameo like everybody else.

My apologies. I googled "Ghostbusters 2016" and in the cast it showed Sigourney Weaver playing Dana Barrett. When I got home from work I went to IMDB and googled some other info on it and though it has Sigourney listed the character is not. Google just fooled me. Sorry about the misinformation.

I respect this position, wish I could feel the same

GB was also a huge part of my childhood, I knew every word of the film by time I was 3 (however inappropriate that may seem now)

thus, if I ever encounter someone who refers to this as "Ghostbusters" and the other films as "the old ones" or anything derogatory like that, I believe I should have the right to tear that person's still beating heart out of their chest :o

You're gonna be tearing out the hearts of a lot of women.

hey that's fine, I don't discriminate

and Scarlet, I never said I could rip a heart out, just that I should have the right to do so, totally different :woot:

If this movie sucks, all existing Blu Rays of the original movie will spontaneously explode. Why do you think the industry did the format changeover from DVDs in the first place? For the slight increase in reproduction quality? You are all so naive.

This film is as much Ghostbusters as the old one. We all have to deal with that.

He's saying that the movie is as much Ghostbusters as the old one. We all have to deal with that.

I'm honestly just awaiting a trailer to see if it looks worth my time. So far nothing has screamed horrid film to me.

Lol, be careful, a moderator will be all over that!

but i get ya... i'm just not as - worked up as you!! ;)

the world changes, this film is Ghostbusters as much as the others

you want to be on the wrong side of history, that's entirely your prerogative

This film is as much Ghostbusters as the old one. We all have to deal with that.

There are countless remakes and sequels to successful films that end up all but forgotten after a few years while the originals remain ingrained in popular culture. It is way too early to say that this film will meet the same fate since it hasn't even been released yet, but it very well could. It takes more than a name or title to become relevant.

Honestly, my issue here is that this is a full on, erase the originals from existence reboot. I don't want that.

The cast on the other hand? I love it. Sure it's a gimmick, but they can rock it easily.

My issue is that if they wanted a movie about a team of female paranormal investigators, they could have easily done that without all the baggage associated with being a remake. When you say 'remake,' most people think 'garbage' because 90% of the time that's what they end up being.

But then it would be called "The Ghostbusters rip off (with women depending on who's criticizing)" anyway at this stage. You really can't win here. In an era where brand recognition is king, this was the only way to go.
