The New Ghostbusters - Part 6

Yep, it's the lack of horror in this new one that's the issue. Ghostbuster humour came from the genuine terror in the movie. I remember being 6 years old and scared to death of the ghost in the library.

Agree. There is no terror or any kind of horror in this trailer. We got generic trailer with no real tone what this movie should supposed to be. Horror with comedy or comedy with horror or just comedy. Ofcourse all that spiced with flat jokes and not really funny characters beside Kate McKinnon's character.

That's what I liked about the original Ghostbusters is that it was both horror and comedy. This trailer looks like it's just straight comedy.

Also something that I liked about the originals that isn't really relevant is that Dan Aykroyd actually had an interest in the occult.

yeah straight comedy minus the jokes

It was. You could take the humour out of Ghostbusters and play it as a straight horror film and it would still work.

Im really here nor there on this being remade and the trailer so far. I was more star wars indiana jones so if those are ever remade Ill feel the outrage fans have toward this.

Its looks ok I guess but I get haunted house mashed with pixels feels.

Maybe Im the odd man oout but I barely consider the original a horror. Sure it did have some horror elements but I do not think it was a horror movie first and a comedy second.

So the lack of horror in the trailer didn't phase me.

I will not be seeing this in theatres. Netflix, maybe. My interest shut off as soon as the trailer ended.

I may or may not answer the question about the big bad, where the logo comes from, and where the winged demon fits in. In private message. Off the record.

It's not specifically a horror film but it's got one foot planted firmly in that genre throughout. The humour comes from that.

Well the trailer analysis with Fieg basically confirms
the logo ghost is the main baddie
. He says that even the logo has a back story. It seems like
they create the logo after their confrontation with the logo ghost, and that's the genesis of their badge.

They show the origin of the logo right there in the trailer.

That's your problem right there. We are not 6 year old anymore. That's the "issue" with old movie reboot, you saw it as a kid, you remember the feel of it, nostalgia is a powerful feeling and now, as an adult, it is close to impossible to feel the same. I wish I could.

I would agree with that

But I feel like if someone I knew was like "Let's watch a horror" that I'm gonna bust out Ghostbusters.

Yeah, Ghostbusters had the creep factor in there, but it's more comedy than anything. It had an edge to it to be sure, but it was rated PG at the end of the day. And that cleverness of balance is what makes it great. The point is to look at it as a whole package.

I've been a supporter of this movie and want it to do well but after that trailer... I don't want to see it much anymore if the reviews aren't positive. So far it's a waiter for me.

So did anyone notice the Twinkie ad in the Times Square scene?

Bingo

Anyway it's still trending on Twitter for all the wrong reasons.
-Looks bad
-Racist
-"YOU'RE A SEXIST"

I rarely see anyone talking about the trailer looking good

I wonder what kind of damage control will Sony do. Not sure how many box office flops they can survive. They need to put new trailer soon.

And this is a problem Hollywood is facing. They are relying too much on people our age to generate hype for these 80's/90's movie remakes/reboots/sequels. We need new properties to be created. We don't need a new generation of ghostbusters, we need to give a new generations its own films with its own characters. There's no reason an original all-female ghost hunter movie couldn't be done today, the problem is trying to promote something new is difficult and requires additional work. But, as Deadpool has shown, clever marketing can produce results for obscure properties. All that is lacking on Hollywood's part is the will to actually market new ideas.

I think it looks fun. Never will ever ever come close to the original at all in anyway shaoe or form. But it looks fun.

I remember a few things freaking me out about Ghostbusters when I was a kid.

It is so frustrating to know the answers to all the wild speculation and not be able to say anything publicly. I have honestly never known such frustration. Especially when the speculation is so wrong...ahhhhh...people are wrong in the Internet! What can I do? Must I just suffer until July?! What if they DO make major changes and refilm parts of it due to the backlash and test screening? God I hope they do. The main villain is the weakest part.

Just saw the trailer. Looks like total crap...didn't change my opinion.

And I agree with the people who say that the original movies were scary. The scene from Ghostbusters 2 with the heads on spikes traumatized me.

So your screening was a test screening? Did they ask questions afterward? I've heard about movies doing lots of test screenings and wildly changing aspects of the film because of the response. So I guess it's possible for them to beef up certain elements that you and the other screeners may have.
