The New Ghostbusters - Part 6

Conceptually, I think bits of it looks alright. Like, I like some of the tech on display and the group shots/designs of the ghosts - the effects look good too. But other than that it looks very... dull and not that funny. The originals, whilst funny, aren't exactly laugh out loud but the humour and tone here didn't do anything for me.

The team looks like a female copy of the originals. I don't know why they went with an all female team, especially women who aren't that funny.. I'm sure there'll be a Melisa McCarthy fat joke in it somewhere :whatever: There's no need for the team to be all female (just as there would be no real need for the team to be all male) but it just feels like gender equality or doing something different for the sake of it. It certainly can't be because they're bringing something fresh to the table.

Anyway, this could have being really cool as a straight up sequel, with the remaining guys in something of a mentor role (similar to Han/Leia/Luke in SW), passing the torch to a new team. It could have being a mix of guys and girls but with all the new tech/concepts, a more modern approach to action-comedy and new effects, it could have being really fun and cool.

Oh well, maybe a second trailer can turn things around otherwise it'll probably be something to watch on TV in a years time.

And just think, these are probably the funniest jokes.

Actually, Feig has said in the past that he intentionally doesn't do that in order to keep the big laughs a surprise. He also likes to use different takes in the trailer than the film.

I had an open-mind, but that wasn't awful. That was beyond awful. That was worse than I could have ever expected.

Sony, it's not too late, cancel this disgraceful piece of trash before it's released. Please, I beg of you.

I'm just glad you went in with an open mind.

The original cast had obvious chemistry. This trailer makes it seems devoid of that, which in turn kills the delivery of punch lines.

The other thing is the tone/mood. The CGI is good, albeit in some spots it's waaaaaay too obvious and the actresses are struggling to interact with it. Honestly though the tone looks too goofy.

I showed multiple people the trailer and they all got a laugh out of the second slap at the end. They didn't like anything else though. I found that interesting.

Ok, here we go.... the visual tone is spot on, it felt like it was in the same universe, they mentioned '30 years ago' and showed the firestation and i thought - boom it's connected (i mean come on, the first scene to tell us it's a sequel would have been very pleasing) but then it was only there to further sell the brand.
We then see what is basically a rehash of the original, the first ghost scene is way to on the nose as homage to the library scene, as well as the slime. Speaking of Slime, Slimer looked exactly the same and was cool.

Now, everything else was just a complete copy. MM head turning around, what a goofy joke - every bone in her neck would have crumbled and her skin ripped apart. Terrible goofy joke. Esp seeing a possessed MM.

The timing of LJ's slap joke was awful and well, basically the humour and the large ghosts walking through town looked like Scooby Do.

Same uniform, same car, back story all the that jazz, the same.

This disappointed me, simply because i was hoping it would be something original, something fresh.

I didn't like all i heard so far, Feig was saying all the wrong things, it felt too forced and from what i have seen, it just looks like a SNL skit.

The only saving grace, McKinnon's character looks pure GB worthy with some good chemistry with Wiig.

Fromt his trailer alone, i'm not paying to watch it.

If people saw Hemsworth, will they wonder:

- Why is his hair so short?
- Where's the hammer and suit of armor?

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I liked it. Showed off the world decently and McKinnon is already an early scene stealer. Need a second trailer to see more of the humour, wasn't feeling it that much.

Random thoughts:
Would have preferred Wiig and Jones to switch roles and play against type. Mix it up more.
With the possession scene and everything this movie probably wouldn't get play in China.

Anyway, I thought the trailer was OK. Expected the vitriol the internet was going to throw at it, but I don't think it's the horror show they're crying about.

Unless it gets Pixels-level reviews, I'd check it out.
This pretty much sums up my thoughts. The trailer was fine, nothing amazing, but it looks like it has the potential for a good time at the theater to me. I like the group involved, so unless the reviews declare it a disaster, I'll be watching it.

I'll watch it, will take the kids, should be fun. I just checked and you know what? my copy of the originals didn't melt and yea I still have all my good childhood memories about the movies, no damage that I can see, I'm cool with this.

I'll just leave this here.

I like Feig's movies, though I'm not big on The Heat. His trailers aren't always the best. I remember chuckling at the trailer for Spy. Then I saw the reviews and decided to check it out. I laughed a lot at that film. I smiled and chuckled at this trailer. Thought it was slick, quick and cool. But I'm hoping the big laughs are saved for the main event.

The overall reaction is not strong in a positive light here. They really needed a good first impression and instead this is gonna dig them a bit deeper then they already were.

Marketing needs to step up their game. That teaser for a teaser was horrible and I have a difficult time believing this was the best material they could have used for a first trailer.

They should have put one of the originals cameo in the trailer to somewhat avoid 100% negative reaction.

LOL @ all the down votes and negative comments on Youtube

this movie is gonna flop HARD

Hollywood Reporter posted an article and suggest that Sony may have completely misjudged how to market this movie, by paying so much homage to the original all they were doing is reminding people about the movie they already love. It's hard to argue with that assessment.

It is so frustrating to know the answers to all the wild speculation and not be able to say anything publicly. I have honestly never known such frustration. Especially when the speculation is so wrong...ahhhhh...people are wrong in the Internet! What can I do? Must I just suffer until July?! What if they DO make major changes and refilm parts of it due to the backlash and test screening? God I hope they do. The main villain is the weakest part.
Who are the main villains in the movie? I really don't think that would be a spoiler for this or any movie to know who the bad guys are.

I actually was halfway interested in this but that trailer put me off entirely. I'm going to avoid this unless I hear it's actually worth my time.
For the record I've never even seen the original Ghostbusters. I have no love for the original franchise. I was interested in seeing the all-women main cast, it's full of actresses I like, but it looks like the textbook definition of a cookie-cutter studio comedy. Granted I know this is just our first look at it but yeesh.
Ol' Sony just can't catch a break.

According to Paul Feig, the reason the trailer mentions the old movies is because they tested several different trailers, and the one(s) with the mention tested better than the one(s) without.

That's annoying. It's frustrating that just because I don't like the cast or the trailer, I must be a "baby man" or whatever.

No, I just don't think this looks very good.

Proof audience testing isn't 100% then I guess.
