The New Ghostbusters - Part 6

Very disappointed but not surprised by Jones' character. The one black ghostbuster is the only one who isn't a scientist...again. Plus from what little we've seen she's going to be the loud ghetto stereotype, something Winston never was. This won't get my money.

Welp, I saw the trailer again and it worked a little bit better this time. The GB theme remix is still obnoxious though.

a fan edit that actually improves the pacing

that was actually much better. you cut flat jokes, unecessary scenes, focus on narration on what this film will be about, add original music, improve pacing and actually looks more than decent.

nice editing.

Seems like a trend. Why is it so different than YouTube? I think the response I heard that YouTube is just a hate zone anyway says it best, but I think it's harder to troll on Facebook since you attach a profile to your comments. I've learned some interesting things about the people out there in our world by clicking on profiles of those with hateful comments.

To put YouTube comments in perspective, what we've learned is that, from nearly 10 million views, 1% of folks took the time to like it and 2% took the time to dislike it. They are the more passionate folks, I'd assume. This means the feelings of 93% of viewers is unknown.

Feig's trailers are not great in general. Spy was great, but the trailer didn't snag me. It was the reviews and WOM.

I think in those cases though it was because a lot of the best gags weren't allowed in the trailers.

Have you read the Facebook comments? Youtube comments always tend to be more vile, but the negativity is strong on Facebook as well and has been so for quite sometime.

The bottom line is that not all the dislikes are coming from jerks who just want to hate. The trailer was not received well, plain and simple.

Oh, I'm perfectly aware that not every dislike is from man babies. There is valid criticism out there, but it's being drowned out. If you've been following this film since the beginning it's hard to ignore that the hate was strong for this before there was anything to hate but a casting announcement and director. The trailer could have been perfect and I think some of those voices would still be yelling hate.

Yeah, Facebook has some nasty comments, but the number of comments aren't coming close to the likes. The people who will make or break this movie is the general audience and most of them won't be discussing this film on message boards or posting comments. They don't care that much. They'll like it or dislike it, perhaps not even care enough to do either one, and move on. If it looks fun they'll buy a ticket.

So to declare this film an epic fail or future success based on comments and likes is impossible. So many voices aren't heard. One thing's for sure though...a lot of people know about this film right now and that will make a difference.

Which I'm hopeful is the case with the GB trailer. Feig wants surprises and wants us to laugh more at the film than the trailer. I watched the original Ghostbusters trailer and didn't really find it that funny. Maybe one of my favorite jokes, "Mass Hysteria!" was in there. The best lines and moments were saved for the film. More of the ghosts and hero vibe was pushed.

The film itself? No. Until weeks before release we won't have a good idea on that. Sadly a strong dislike to the extent this film has gotten is pretty unheard of. It's not a good sign either way. Right now the marketing is a massive failure because it's failing to win the majority over. They needed a good trailer with the movie being released in a few months.

Remaking Ghostsbusters was always gonna be difficult. But I find it hard to believe the studio knows what they are doing when it comes to marketing the film. Or that they are using the best material to get people on board. Both the Director and the Actors are more talented then what's being shown.

How good/bad 6k likes is? How many likes is a regular-to-good response for a trailer? I don't pay attention to the faces 'cause is a new feature of fb and I assume most people don't bother to express negativity with them, just ignore and not "Like".

I know my window of the world is not the end all be all, but my job puts me in touch with a lot of folks and they all want to talk about Ghostbusters with me because they know I'm a fan. Most of them are oblivious to the outrage and thought the trailer looks like a fun time. Most remember Ghostbusters but haven't seen it in years. When I peak my head up out of my nerd cave that latches onto any bit of news and comments on multiple boards, I begin to see that others are treating this film much differently than I am. It's just a movie. The trailer has done its job and let them know it exists and many are anxious for more.

We are gonna have to disagree strongly there. They should have had pushing this film and putting out better material months ago. These professional marketers job is more then just showing they have a film. They need to convince audiences this is worth their money and that they have a good product.

Most people upset with the trailer are going to comment rather than click angry or like. That's why I wanted to share the number of comments. But, for obvious reasons didn't want to separate which are favorable or against. Depending on where you look you'll see those numbers fluctuate in any direction. But you'll notice that the number of comments usually match up with the dislikes and don't come close to the number of likes, loves, and happy faces.

What I find interesting about the YouTube likes/dislikes is that though there is an astronomical amount of dislikes, the likes are trending toward the normal amount you'd see for you average summer tent pole film folks are looking forward to. So it's generating the positive likes you want, but it seems that, where normal folks not interested in the film would shrug and move on, the people not happy with the film want the world to know it. I actually think this is going to create some interesting results by the the time the film releases. A lot of people are hearing about this film because of it. We'll have to wait to know what that means for the film.

I'll see your anecdotal evidence and raise you another.

In my office (approx 26 people), most thought it was hysterically bad. So clearly in lieu of that - many are not anxious for more. See what I did there?

Oh, I actually agree with that part, though I think we'll start to see a strong push from here on out. I know we'll be getting more trailers after the reception of the first.

I was just saying that the general audience won't be following the backlash and negative comments like we are. They'll read the articles from the main pages to get their trailer and most aren't even talking about it.

We know what it means. You're simply choosing to remain obtuse about it. This will take on a life of its own and the comments will start to become the news, which will trigger their curiosities to go read them.

Yeah, you ignored the first part of my post that said it was my window. And for the record, my window is in the hundreds and not 26, but that still does not negate that it's my window.

Might want to check out the numerous reaction videos on youtube too, heavily in favour of the negative.

I saw the same type of hate from my Transformer boards when the first movie came out, the second one, the third one, the fourth one...well you get the point. Fan's whining on boards do not determine the fate of a movie. It's the general audience who don't care nearly as much as we do. That's not be obtuse. Optimistic maybe. It's my observation about fans and films in general.

I'm shocked that your "window" only supports your claim.

Well thank God you are the GA's representation.

Oh they're there for every film, game and movie. I never watched fan reactions on YouTube because as I pointed out earlier it's mostly the focused hatred of our internet age.

I have a window also. Or better say a "window" :o

This movie has today better chance to flop than it did 2 days ago. Sony needs to sell this movie to people and they did bad job in doing it. Cause if they didnt we wouldnt argue about this topic here, or on boxofficetheory or somewhere else how bad trailer it is.

Well thank God you are the GA's representation.

Dude! Calm down man and stop putting words in my mouth. I'm sorry I'm optimistic about the film and I'm sorry that bothers you. Never once did I say I was the end all be all decider of the GA. I just simply put down numbers from Facebook that showed a nuanced view of the trailer's reception. Continue to crusade on against this trailer.
