The New Ghostbusters - Part 7

Let's not pretend it's everyone.
Nope, not everyone. I get called a SJW here all the time. And after seeing Spy I was more then willing to give this a chance. But I feel like they have been aggressively trying to make me not like this. And in that case, they have succeeded.

One problem with "attacks" on this film, is how inelegant they are. Which doesn't get much attention when you are complaining about a run of the mill tentpole. But people know there is a sensitivity here, like there was for the FF. The problem is too many hate, rightfully imo, but do so without any thought outside of making sure people know they are pissed off. It is like the Bernie Sanders supporters attacking females elected officials. Why do they have to use those words?

Also there are two posters who spend a lot of time in here and other threads barely hiding their hatred towards women. They have already been pro-banned for it.

I'm sorry, but he had to know he was asking for it with all the emotions running high. I have only one thought about AVGNs video...short, but pointless. "I'm going to ignore this movie and not see it to review it, but review it anyway based on its trailer and draw lots of attention to it." He'd been better off just ignoring it to begin with. Who cares if he's not going to see it? Did it honestly affect someone's opinion?

That's the point, who cares? What does it matter how he feels about the movie? What makes him so special? The answer - nothing. So why was so much anger and column space dedicated to someone who was speaking for themselves? Because we live in an outrage culture. People want to tear others down for not sharing their views.

As an AVGN fan, I care that he decided to do this very dumb thing. It was unnecessary, and yet he did it. To make what point? I have no idea.

The idea of, "who cares" is a false argument. It is BS.

It isn't BS, if you don't like what he has to say then don't watch it.

I have been watching him for years. I was not expecting this. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake and I am allowed to say that I feel that way. Which is of course what your own logic says. If you don't like it, don't read it right?

God, this Trump like BS is painful.

I don't take articles seriously who's authors try to impose what they think is happening as being what's actually happening. No-one can say that someone's dislike for something comes down to reasons other than what has been stated unless proof can be found to the contrary.

I've only read a few articles, but the ones read weren't very hateful towards him, just eye rolling, like I did. Most didn't call him straight up sexist, but they all wrestled with why it was this remake, after countless others, that has caused such an uproar? What makes it different? And they all point out it replaces a male cast with a female one. From that they draw conclusions.

So someone can't be racist or sexist or anything else unless they come out and say it? I am not saying AVGN is any of those things. But the idea that you cannot "read between the lines" is ridiculous. We have it in this very thread.

Again, if there's history to suggest someone doesn't holds those views how can anyone logically read between the lines?

Conclusions that fail to take into account things like fan re-edited trailer that garnered a far more positive response, or the fact that the biggest franchise in the world in Star Wars is now lead by a female. It's facts like this that are being overlooked in this whole situation.

Why do something so strange, something you haven't really ever done before, for this? When you do stuff like this, you open yourself up to this kind of accusations. Again, I am not suggesting he is sexist. I have been watching him for years, I don't feel like he is. But this was so unnecessary. He went out of his way to make this point, with a film with legitimate social questions. I honestly don't remember him doing this for stuff like the Terminator sequels. And if he did, I apologize, but I don't remember it.

So he says how he feels, big deal. Him posting a video saying why he's choosing not to is his call, the question isn't why did he do it, the question is why did so many people give a ****?

If someone saying how they feel isn't a big deal, why do you care others expressing their feelings on this subject? Do you not see the obvious contradiction in your complaint?

I've had this discussion with you before that I don't like the idea of people ganging up on someone on the internet because it potentially ruins peoples lives. It's a torch and pitchfork mentality that I hate. He wasn't tearing anyone down, nor was his thoughts particularly controversial, but people were happy to rip into him calling him this, that and the other because he dared to say he didn't like what he saw. I don't have a problem with civil discussion, but what has been happening with the reaction to this film has been nothing close to civil.

That is the risk you make when you put yourself out on the internet. Lets not act like he is a child, who didn't do this in a very specific way. He expected this. He pour gasoline in the fire on purpose. And have you complained about the sexist *******s in the comment section supporting this, or does that not count?

And again, if it doesn't matter, why do you care? If people expressing their views is harmless, why do you care? You didn't mention things needed to be civil earlier.

The more I know about this film, the more I'm getting over it and actually anticipating its release to watch it crash and burn. It's like Fant4astic all over again

Everyone loves a good train wreck. LOL

I still have some hope it will be good, but yeah this reminds me a lot of Fantastic Four. And the arrogance from Feig kind of makes me want to see it fail like I think it will. That and the marketing and behind the scenes talk that shows this isn't exactly a great labor of love.

Coming clean here - the scene where Glasses is like, "Kevin...come inside" while he's all dopey and getting possessed made me laugh.

I thought the new trailer was an improvement. I laughed a few times, which is more than the zero times I laughed at the previous one.

I would have done a reboot differently, but I'm not going to damn the film before I see it. I want it to be good, so I'll remain cautiously optimistic and see what happens.

First I saw TheAmazingAtheist video discussing this, then I saw the new trailer. I think I will agree with him about "this movie claims to be progressive, yet it's racist". In the older movie Winston was the only none science guy of the team, but he was a rational and likable character, he didn't have the most memorable lines, but he was certainly a character to like, Patty doesn't have that, the trailers just show a stereotype goofball just like the other three Ghostbusters, and no scientific background.
I thought the new trailer was an improvement.
I think so, it made the film appear to be more appealing.

The latest trailer is a massive improvement, but I don't think it will to do too much to repair thier image at this point. I watched Spy recently and really liked it. Not sure I would have picked Feig for this, but he can make a good, funny film.

Everyone involved on this movie seems to be trying way too hard to be liked and accepted.
