The New Ghostbusters - Part 8

You really think Leslie Jones is funny?

And I thought Melissa McCarthy was the worst of the four until I saw these trailers and now I feel that Leslie Jones is the worst she is awful. The jokes in the trailer were not funny anyway but her's were no doubt the worst.

"As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!"

Meh. James Cameron praised Terminator: Genisys.

I've seen the film, and it is not a feminist film, not have I really seen claims that it is. What I have seen is an extreme level of misogyny directed at it before the first trailer even dropped. That doesn't invalidate the legitimate criticisms of people that have valid concerns. Still, it's pure pig headedness to deny that there has been an anti-feminist backlash to the female Ghostbusters.

The backlash didn't happen because people hate women, but because some perceive it as an unnecessary, overwrought politically correct move.

If you think the four actresses in this are unfunny or talentless, sorry but you're just ignorant or simply not the target audience.

Yes, Melissa McCarthy has made a lot of terrible movies since she obviously was cashing in on her rising fame, but she's been outstanding in many other comedic films.

Kristen Wiig is obviously a comedic tour de force and has even proven to be a great dramatic actress in several low budget indie dramas over the last few years.

Leslie and ESPECIALLY Kate are brilliant on SNL and will be around for years to come.

Paul Feig's involvement makes me even more hopeful that this will turn out better than the trailers. Bridesmaids and Spy are two of the best laugh out loud comedies in the last decade, and were much better than their trailers as well.

You can obviously dislike the movie without being sexist, but the magnitude of vitriol directed at this film is quite clearly driven by sexism and/or misplaced nostalgia anger, and then it snowballs from there with more and more people jumping on the hate bandwagon months before the film is even released. This hardly ever happens.

And don't give me that reverse sexism crap. Not a chance in HELL this film would be receiving this much aggressive hatred if there wasn't unwarranted disdain for the talent involved. Any sensible person would be able to admit that there's a misogynist element in the reaction to this unreleased film.

Well "lolz". Having a different taste in movies and comedy makes me apparently ignorant? Man I love the interwebs. I guess I should write "IMHO" after my posts to so you wouldnt think I am posting an universal opinion or possibly my neighbours opinion?

It's nice that you like the players in the production and are looking forward to it.

In my opinion Melissa Mccarty is boring. I don't like her comedy that seems to be based on her falling over, her being "bigger" and driving a little moped, and her making weird faces and odd looks with her teeth.

Leslie is the one who always shouts on SNL and makes mistakes(for example forgets her lines or fails delivering them) on almost every skit on SNL right? Who plays the "urban character" in the film, I find that type of yelling comedy really low and unfunny, and its one of the reasons I these days avoid SNL. From what I have seen in the few Ghosbusters trailers there is even more screaming here. Unwitty and unfunny and crude.

I have never laughed out loud when I have seen the other actresses either. I don't have a huge dislike or anything, but nope, nothing that I find brilliant.

"Bridesmaids" was awful, "Spy" was slightly funny when Statham was on screen, but the rest of that film was pretty forgetful.

Nah, "Freaks and Geeks" is still the only thing Feig has made that I like.

Regarding all the other "sexist" etc talk regarding this project. I'm sure there is lots of that going on too. I personally have never cared what people think of me, and I won't start now either, The trailers look awful, therefore I am not seeing something like this in theatres, and the posts I have made about the film, have only commented on stuff we have seen and what we know. Trailers, posters, and who is involved with it.

Hopefully you like it.

The hatred for this film came from women taking roles that were originally portrayed by men in the original two films and fans of the original don't seem to like that. Before anyone tries to say "the trailers are why we don't like it", don't go there. Most of the hatred came way before that and was purely based on the fact it was a female led film and not the male one with the original cast people have been waiting so many years for. Personally, I think the film could be rather good based on everyones track record (Feig, Wiig, and McCarthy's past films) and hope it does well as I'd like to see more films with female leads that aren't necessarily romantic comedies.

Yes and no. With me, I don't like the all female cast concept because I think it's silly to build something from scratch with the only premise that "the cast is going to be all female/male/black/dwarfs/fats/whatever, wich is what Sony and Feig did here. And, Ghostbusters is a brand that could easily make sequels with entirely new casts, and they choose a reboot (after years and years of keeping alive the dream of a sequel)

That's why I hate this movie from its inception, and it would have had an uphill battle to win me over... And did nothing to do that.

Yep. Does what I've seen of the film inspire much confidence in me? Truthfully, no. But I think there's a looong list of films that have given the same impression as this one has without inspiring nearly as much vitriol. And to pretend that's not due to the gender swap is to be deliberately obtuse.

Sadly what he says doesn't mean much since he has been the biggest supporter of bringing ghostbusters back in some form or another so him saying this is not at all shocking and he does sound like he is saying whatever he can to sell the movie.

Yeh after James Cameron said that TG was the second coming I just dont know who to believe any more.

He's just towing the company line... As much as I love old school DA... he's gone of the deep end (aka bat **** crazy) the last few years.

I'll be honest, guys: I NEVER had an issue with an all-female GB team. I felt it could work with the right writers onboard. This doesn't seem to be the case here. The characters all seem to written like bad Happy Maddison characters and act like morons. ESPECIALLY poor Chris Hemsworth. I'm kinda sick of him getting put in bad-looking comedy reboots (Thor Ragnarok can't come soon enough). Also, REALLY hate they're using the GB logo ghost as an obvious substitute for Stay Puff. It makes NO sense as a final boss and even LESS as a reference. It's a ****ing LOGO, not a real ghost from the originals!

But my biggest issue more than anything is that they're shoving so much gross-out humor into this thing. There was BARELY any of that in the original 2 movies because they relied more on smart protagonists and funny jokes/set pieces. The ONLY time we got something like that in them was in the first movie when Bill Murray got knocked over by Slimer and got ectoplasm all over him, but even THAT mostly happened off-screen! Having a female ghost (which looks suspiciously like the librarian ghost from the original) vomit ectoplasm all over Kristin Wiig ISN'T FUNNY, DAMNIT! I'm getting sick of seeing that scene in the trailers!

Some of these movies being re-made/re-booted today are just products of their era and need to stay that way.

I love Ghostbusters (it was creative and had inventive designs) and I'm looking forward to this remake, but yes certain movies are products of their time.

Like Revenge of the Nerds would be hard to remake because people don't view geeks like that anymore. Also, my God, the nerds are the actual villains in the movie. They do way worst things than the jocks.

Another example is Point Break. The original was such a product of its time (which is wonderful) but you can't replicate that today. We're too self aware.

Just curious. What aspects of point break do you think are a product of the times that don't allow for it to be done now?

I think this movie got hated on because after years of people hating remakes that are just cash grabes and after years of wanting a Ghostbuster sequel instead they get another remake thats a cash grabe.

Its not giving the customer what they want and Hollywood is Mad at there customers backlash towards there product they believe should be full heartedly accepted but instead actors and the director are talking crap about people in interviews for not being happy with there product. Very pretentious. One of the actors saying "people who hate the movie have no friends." Shes gonna have no butts in the seat isolating her paying customers. What a dumbass.

Wasn't the movie Evolution supposed to be a Ghostbusters sequel but Ivan Reitman opted out instead of displeasing the fans of what they want by having the original guys back in a proper sequel he made Evolution its own thing not to upset the fans?

Hollywood is business they don't care about fans or the people who buy a ticket they see people as money to lure you in to a crapfest you feel duped into paying $12 bucks to see.

Its rare when a studio really wants to please fans.
When a lot of egos get involved and make something that wasnt theres there own thing and they make it awful. Some can argue that with Snyder and his quotes about a dark Batman that is in prison or whatever.

It just goes on and on why the customer (fans) audiance are mad and its not souly because its an all women cast. Its people who are not the Ghostbusters!
And thats why Reitman didnt replace the original
Guys and made Evolution its own movie.

But what it all comes down to is Anything thats gonna be a remake is gonna be seen as the dollar store equivalent to the original that people bought into and loved.

Not sure anyone mentioned him, but I liked the inclusion of Slimer.
What made him popular enough to be the Ghostbusters ally in the cartoon? Never got anything of him from the old movies other than puking on Ray in the first film, and driving a bus taking Rick Moranis character to the museum in the second movie.

I loved the original point break. Whatever that remake/sequel attempted to be looked like a spoof/bad parody.

Loved the original 2 movies but they're not untouchable to me by any means. I have no problems with the new team consisting of all women but so far it just doesn't seem to be funny. Granted, I'm comparing a whole 2 minutes or so of what I've seen so far to the great Bill Murray. But I loved Bridesmaids and Spy so this has a chance as far as I'm concerned.

So, despite the fact I haven't laughed out loud from either of the trailers, I just don't get the hate and I am surprised how petty it's become. It's a bit concerning...that we now live in a time where it's ok for a woman to become President, but heaven for bid she becomes one of our precious Ghostbusters.

The difference is Bridesmaids and Spy were their own thing. Regardless of the talent level of the actors in this film you'd have to be completely naive to see what the studio is trying to capitalize on here.

What are these girls connections to the original film? Is there a connection? Does it make any reasonable sense? Explain to me then the reason behind an all female cast? Why even make a sequel if it won't even contain a few members of the first two? Is the whole riff of this movie the fact that the cast is all female?

If you have answers to those questions and they make sense to you then I guess this movie is going to be ok for you.

To me it's like making the next James Bond black. Or taking Black Panther in ten years and making him white... or having Ellen Ripley be an hispanic/asian male in the god forbid unforseen remake of alien/aliens. Laugh now but this is the direction we are heading right now.

Let it be known having said that.. I love strong leads no matter what their gender/race is. Just not ones that are focusgrouped/shoehorned into some studio exec's vision/wet dream.

Not to mention that they forced the guys into this movie. Hell, why is Bill Murray preventing GB3 from happening and now he is suddenly appearing in this. The leaked Sony mails prove that they were forcing the guys into cameos. Ernie Hudson was againt the female reboot from the beginning and now he is suddenly praising it, and also appearing in it. Ivan Reitman fellt like they surpassed him. I just hope the guys get a ****load of money for doing this.

And like said by others, this feels like James Cameron praising the disappointing Terminator Genisys. I don't believe anything anymore. I'm still going to see it in theatres because I love the original two movies, but this already has a bad taste.

Melissa McCarthy is one of the least funny comedic actors I know, and it feels like her whole schtick that she does in every movie comes down to her being fat and clumsy. My sister loves that kind of comedy so she loves her, but I generally prefer cleverly written jokes over visual gags like someone falling over, so her comedy really isn't my thing.

I really like Kristen Wiig but I actually know her more for her dramatic roles. I think she's funny because she's more subdued (at least in what I've seen) but more than that I think she's a likable actress and I enjoy seeing her in things.

As for Kate and Leslie, I can't say I'm familiar with them because SNL is not something I follow, but just judging by the trailers, Leslie Jones feels like my hatred of Melissa McCarthey cranked up to 11. That obnoxious loud character who shouts a lot and annoys me to no end. Kate looks more like she will be the goofball, which I might be OK with. She doesn't really get to do much in the trailers, and that goofball-kind of character can work, and it can also fail, it comes down to the writing.

I really have no issues with this being an all female cast, and from what I have seen the trailers look good, I will give it a chance and see it in theaters. I was a kid when the first Ghostbusters came out and my dad and I saw that film literally 20 times and loved it each time, Ghostbusters 2 not so much, saw it once and was meh to it, sometimes a movie gets a lightening in a bottle thing and the first film did that IMO.
So far both Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson both have seen the film and liked it, whether they were saying that because they make cameos hard to say, but it looks entertaining and I will go in with no pre-judgments or expectations.
