the New Invaders and the Ultimates

Was Marvel trying out Ultimate character designs or something in New Invaders?
Some characters where redesigned with more realistic costumes and looks.
like with Union Jack, Spitfire, and Captain America (US Agent)

U-Man seemed to be redesigned to be more realistic too.

don't care what they were trying to do but i liked the invaders. loved the blazing skull, and tara and how he wanted to just see her naked.

Maybe the inside isn't drawn that great all the time, sometimes I like it alot, but the covers were usually great.

US Agent was inlisted to be the New Invader's Captain America.
The code named him Captain America because why not, there could be more than one soldier named Captain America (or something like that, I forget their reasoning)
So he got a uniform like Caps and a new shield.
I stopped reading it before he started using the fancey energy looking shield but I think the round star one has names carved on it like the Vietnam Memorial.

I'm waiting for Brubaker to do a mini series of the Invaders/All Winners Squad set in the 40s and making characters like The Whizzer badass.

That would be awesome. I would love to see Brubaker tackle those character and make them awesome.
When will that happen? Someday I hope.

no... i mean cap. in the lineup with namor, union jack, torch, spitfire and thinman it is cap and he has his old ww2 shield.

That is US Agent. They just enlisted him and gave him the title of Captain America for that group and gave him a uniform similar to Captain America.
I think the writers were thinking that in the real world there could be more than one person calling themselves Captain America, plus the group needed him to be called Captain America for their mission or something.

I think that was after Red Zone, which is the last story the Red Skull was masquerading as Dell Rusk in.

The New Invaders had some cool costume redesigns. I couldn't get into the comic because Chuck Austen was writing and C. P. Smith's art looked horrendous to me, but I heard it wasn't a terrible series. I've always liked the concept of the Invaders getting back together and being active in the modern era. I just wish it were executed a little better.

i like new invaders too...like corp said the concept was great but the art stunk.

wasnt overly keen on UJ's redesign either...i prefer his regular one or the one the were gonna originally use..

the art there looked good too.

i would like to see the new invaders took on again....

I don't know about those union jack kneepads. The rest of the costume looks good, though. Kind of like UJ meets Solid Snake.

I think the idea with the costume they actually used in the comic was to make him look like he was outfitted by the British SAS.

i agree on both counts...just regular knee pads wouldve looked better.
i'm more a fan of joey's regular costume the one used also in captain america...i also like the WW2 version too.

he did look a bit sas-ish....but i liked him battling vampires more...a blade/union jack could be fun!

I'd prefer a mix of the New Invaders costumes. I like the C. P. Smith face mask and jacket-styled upper body, but I prefer the pants from the Kolins design. The classic costume looks a little too ninja-like for me, and Union Jack's not at all about ninjas or anything.

i guess it is kinda ninja ish...
but i do like kollins version...give him regular knee pads and he looks great....

never liked the face mask at all...the rest of it was ok to by smith.

i wonder if we'll ever see a version of union jack in the ultimates.

i like the ultimates but its all too down beat and depressing for my liking...everyone apart from spidey is mean and moody and nasty in it.

theres noone to warm to.

Eh, I quit reading the Ultimates long ago.

For UJ's face mask, I'd keep the SAS-style mask but put a cloth mask on under it to cover the rest of his head. The only thing I don't like about the Smith mask is the fact that UJ's hair is peeking out over the top.
