GREEN ARROW #2
On sale JULY 28 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US
Written by J.T. KRUL • Art by DIOGENES NEVES & vicente cifuentes • Cover by MAURO CASCIOLI
A BRIGHTEST DAY occurs in Star City after the White Ring gives birth to a massive forest downtown at ground zero of Prometheus’ CRY FOR JUSTICE attack. Inside, Green Arrow has taken up residence, determined to end the rampant corruption surrounding the forest. First, he’ll have to face off against the forces of his former company Queen Industries – including their new owner who has a secret connection to the Emerald Archer’s past.
Just as the twelve resurrected individuals from BLACKEST NIGHT have a part to play in BRIGHTEST DAY, so does the forest. Green Lantern Hal Jordan guest-stars and don’t miss an ending you’ll never see coming!

Oh, I get it, they made Star City into a big forest to support the even more blatant ripoff of Robin Hood that this series is using as its status quo. I was sitting there reading Brightest Day #0 wondering what the f*** just happened. :o

I would be hella excited about it if only everything about GA at the moment doesn't make me want to vomit.

I'm completely serious, I couldn't make it through a single page of the latest issue without feeling sick to my stomach.

DiDio: "Hey that means we did our jobs righ-"

**** off.

Yeah, he's adopted Joe Q's "emotions = win!" philosophy, even if the emotions are disgust that ultimately leads to people dropping the series. :o

New Green Arrow #1 starts soon.

I don't suppose anyone's interested? I know I am. But I have my concerns.
First being what exactly his base is. I know he's physically hiding out in the forest - but surely he isn't in some kind of tree house? And that forest is slap bang in the middle of the city - its not like it backs onto a mountain range that he can hide out in or something.
Secondly is why his company seems to have been just handed over to this Queen woman, and why he seems to have no money whatsoever? At the least you would have thought he could have done what Nightwing did in Bludhaven and had an industrial space slightly kitted out. Ollie has to have some cash stashed away.

I'm pretty sure Ollie's trying to go through the whole redemption thing where he throws away all of his worldly possessions and just lives in the forest of Star City, protecting people. I wouldn't be surprised if he were in some sort of tree fort type situation. In fact, if he's not in a tree house, I'll be shocked.

I'm torn on the new Green Arrow series...Not having a job means I can't throw my money away on comics like I used to, gambling on whether or not they're actually worth buying... So I think I'll wait it out and see what the general consensus is after the first arc or two.

That's what I thought. Wouldn't have thought it'd be such a big deal someone 'dodgy' taking it over. Its not like he left it in the hands of a trusted friend or something. He just sold it (or gave a chunk of it away or something), then died, came back, and had Stanley Dover's money, then used that to make more money, then used that to manipulate unscrupulous companies... yadda yadda.

I think Ollie would work better as using his fortune to create a virtually not for profit organisation, 90% of the proceeds going to various programs and projects he's set up to help the city (thus fitting his help the helpless plan), and the other 10% keeps him in arrows and hoods.

I hope one of the issues they address in Ollie's new series is Mia's horrible costume.

A interview with Krul said they're stripping away the Arrow family for a while, which I think is a good idea as it had got a bit too "yelling out their civilian identities on the streets" and took a lot of the focus off GA. But I really don't think Mia's costume would be a priority anyway ;)

I am disappointed he seems to have gone back to the tunic version of his own suit though - I really liked the lastest one from the GA/BC series

Mia will be gone. But yes, Mia's costume is horrible. I hope with Krul taking over Teen Titans, that he'll put Mia on the team with her original costume.

One of the only things that constantly bugs me about Green Arrow is the inconsistent, and frequently incorrect rendering of his bow. In the latest series (at least both covers and the preview pages) he's depicted with almost a fibreglass garden bow. Two of the basic gripes Ollie has are crossbows and compound bows. But the only research rule artists use when drawing the guy is to have only one string on the bow and no cams. Beyond that, long as its kind of bent, possibly with a slight recurve, then they go with it. Half the time though, its about half the bloody length it needs to be.

So Ollie's "Merry Men" will be his supporting cast in his new book, yes?

Any guesses as to who they'll be?

Deadman's obviously one of em

I'm not sure how keen I am in him having "Merry Men". The book started to suffer when we had Ollie, Dinah, Mia AND Connor. I thought the idea of this new direction was to take him back to his roots a bit more. I suppose it was inevitable that more citizens would decide to follow in his footsteps given the recent tragedy, but I'm not keen on overcrowding again. I'm definitely not keen on another archer. Too many people becoming expert marksmen while performing somersaults after having picked the bow up five minutes beforehand.

Read a review before I read the book (being careful to check it wasn't going to have spoilers), and the guy only liked the second half of the book. But I enjoyed the minor exploration of the forest and the talk about Queen Industries. I'm half hoping they don't go down the route of Queen being Ollie's mum, scarred in the accident that killed his father and (originally) her. But I do like this new focus on his company and some family secrets. Always felt his history before his island days was just kind of dumped in there. No real importance to it that would shape his life. This new series suggests it will explore that.

 Dinah, Mia, and Connor were cast members ever since Kevin Smith relaunched the series in 2000. How did it "start" suffering with their presence, considering they've been there from the beginning and slowly faded out of the story?

Yeah, Smith and Meltzer did a great job with the Arrow family. Winick and Kreisberg were the ones who did crappy jobs with them.

winnicks first few arcs were quite good, but he went to crap by the end of his run.

It seems very obvious that this will be the case.

Ollie seems to be missing his sword now. But by the looks of the silhouettes, a bloke with a big giant sword is on the way

I've got no problem with him using multiple weapons. Particularly if they're pushing the Robin Hood angle over the rich kid with no powers angle like the did back in the arrow cave days.

I'm hoping he'll have multiple normal safe houses across the city as well as whatever clever (please don't be an actual ramshackle camp like he would have had on the island in the first place). I'm pretty sure when Ollie was exiled, his accounts weren't frozen or his assets seized.
