Great interview with Dan Slott about the "New Ways to Die" storyline that runs from ASM #568 to #573 featuring Mac Gargan/Venom, Norman Osborn & the Thunderbolts (including Bullseye) & the return of Eddie Brock...

Also featuring some fabulous Jr.Jr. artwork...

Read the first issue. Not convinced it`s gonna get people back in the door.

Its got Goblin, Kraven, Venom, Goblin, JR Jr and Goblin in it. My hand has been forced.

And that's what Marvel's counting on. It's like a parent jingling a set of keys to get a reluctant toddler in to the doctor's office.

I'm really looking foward to New Ways To Die. Not only will we see the return of Eddie Brock, but also the combined greatness of Dan Slott and John Romita Jr.

Last time Spider-man met Bullseye I think Spidey made damn quick work of him. I remember Bullseye feeling WAY outclassed. Spidey moves in a whole different speed to Daredevil.

I posted this in another thread, but it's appropriate here and I still feel the same.

What I would say is that if you put aside the deal with the devil, the marriage that never was and the now screwed history and continuity - this is actually starting to sound like a Spider-man story of old.

*Multiple plots running through each issue
*Emphasis on supporting cast
*Street level villains

I like the whole Holister/Crowne/Osborne thing

The big problem is though while the story structure now seems right, it's just repeating previous successful story lines with characters who may be different in name, but the same in personality as previous other characters.

I'm really looking forward JR JR's art. Too bad that I'll have to wait about 6-9 months to read this. First two issues of BND will come in mail next wednesday. ( Yeah, we're way behind of you guys. )

While I think this will definately be the best out of BND so far I have a few concerns:

1. Eddie Brock, does daredevil just hate Spider-Man or is he pissed about the suit thing. Also didn't eddie kill a nurse without the symbiote? (though I think that whole arc didn't count in marvel's mind, they definately don't want to acknowledge May asking Peter to let her die cause she's at peace).

2. This epic bullseye fight. Spider-Man is much more powerful than daredevil, and more so than american eagle, so this shouldn't be hard at all for him. I'm cool if pete goes into the fight hurt, or bullseye gets some back up, but if it's a straight up fight it shouldn't be anything for pete. (although fun runners give him problems now, so maybe that's the new direction)

IMO, Norman's the real draw here, and that's what hurts the most for me not to pick it up. Seeing him with pete and harry, that's by far what I'm most interested in.

1. BND is not bound by such silly things as continuity...in fact it's plagued the story telling of spider-man for years! it's right up there with that darn marriage. :whatever::whatever::whatever:

2. Pete has been powered down vastly since BND. (I can understand the power dropping since he no longer has his new powers or strength)

but his fighting skills have taken a great dip also...to match ultimate spider-man's fighting set more so.:o

Very true, but since I havent bought any ASM issues since BND began (besides Kraven's First Hunt), I dont think that buying this arc will change much.

I was initially surprised that Slott said that there wouldn't be any developments for Mary Jane in New Ways to Die, implying that she would even be in the story. That's because I thought the advertisement by John Romita Jr. earlier this year showed MJ, along with Kraven's tombstone, and Venom and Anti-Venom as part of "New Ways to Die." It was then pointed out to me by a poster on CBR that the advertisement actually begins with "This Summer..." and then shows MJ and Kraven's Tombstone, then followed by "And Coming This August, part 1 of New Ways to Die." Since we already had a story with MJ and a story involving Kraven, or rather his offspring, it looks like New Ways to Die would deal exclusively with Venom, Anti-Venom, and the Thunderbolts (and based on what I know about ASM #578, this seems quite apparent).

Also, Slott's hint that Anti-Venom may or may not actually be a symbiote once again gives credence to my theory that Anti-Venom is [BLACKOUT]Mister Negative.[/BLACKOUT]

well...I've gotta say if
mister negative
IS anti venom, it will remind me alot of Demogoblin.

I would have liked to see
Mr. negative
developed more on his own though, to me if they cop out and make him the new venom, it will hurt the character in my eyes greatly. like he's not good enough to carry his own legacy, but meh who am I. lol

Maybe you could black out your post so as to not spoil things for people who want to not see potential spoilers...

Slott acknowledges in the interview that the last time we saw Eddie, he was bed-ridden with cancer...

well if they don't want a spoiler...I highly recommend them to not look in a thread where the current developments are being discussed. but i'll edit it.....:csad:

Romita seems to be doing some of the best work of his career in this. I'm highly tempted to pick this up...if just solely for his artwork!

I'm on board so far, but there's just one very big thing that i'm worried about. Do Eddie Brock and Norman Osborn still know that Peter is Spider-man?? They already messed up Daredevil, but if eddie nor osborn know that Peter is Spiderman then i'm done. Things just wouldnt make sense at all if they were oblivious to his identity.

Well, then I guess you're done.

^Seriously? Did they already confirm that? AAGH! Why??

Last time we saw him was in the hospital, he was chock full of tasty tasty cancer, but he was hardly bedridden, and he killed a nurse in cold blood with a scalpel.

well...as long as these guys are writing, they are going to ignore continuity, or at least screw it up in someways and lie about it...

I sent an attempt to get a no prize regarding peter's cell phone. they gave me a lame excuse, tried to make fun of me. (if i can find it i will post it) and never printed my name. which, to be honest i'm glad they didn't.

I just say ignore the past continuity and try to enjoy BND as it's own separate thing. (which it is.)

But it's not... remember, everybody that knew his identity has simply forgotten... it's lame, but believable, and as far as continuity goes, Marvel seems to be going the extra mile to show that the rest of the Marvel U is still connected to Spider-Man... like in the recent ASM Extra #1, there's a comment about how Spidey helped DareDevil (Matt Murdoch) back in DareDevil vol. 2 #20 to 25... as well as the recent memory of meeting Vermin during Kraven's Last Hunt...

The connections with the past are making the books even more fun to me now...
