I'm buying a PS3 this summer. Just wanted to put that out there:woot:

Why is the PS3 selling more units than 360? Did they lower price again?

I bought one last month, for the awesome games it has.

Haha. Juuust kidding. I got it for Blu-ray and Blu-ray only of course. :)

Imdaly, did you get a chance to try Warhawk yet?

Nope. Only games I've tried on it so far are the demos of "Ratchet & Clank", "Uncharted", and that Micro Machines knock-off. None of them impressed me.

The only PS3 game I plan on getting that I know exists or will exist so far is "Singstar".

But I do have "Warhawk" on my Gamefly que cause I promised I'd try it.

You're the only person I know in the US thats getting that game. I dont see that on many people's radar

I think the bigger questio is who the hell is buying the PS2s? You would think the numbers would die down by now but they are just as strong as ever

Singstar sounds cool, and I know that Europe swears by it. However, my time and money is kind of preoccupied with Rock Band ATM. I know Singstar has more of the overall Karaoke feel to it due to song variety, but it's going to be hard for it to draw me away from Rock Band, since RB has singing, guitars, and drums (and it's just all around awesome). I'll probably check out Singstar, but I don't expect it to become the same kind of obsession that Rock Band is for me.

I'm a BIG fan of any game that involves playing an instrument or singing. "Karaoke Revolution", "Rock Band", "Guitar Hero", "Parappa the Rappa", "DDR", etc. So while I've never played "Singstar", it is definitely something I'd love to have to add to my karaoke stuff. :)

The people wanting Playstation games are buying the PS2. The people wanting Blu-ray are buying the PS3. Once the PS3 starts getting good exclusives, then we'll probably start seeing the PS2 sales start to dwindle.

The fact that the PS2 is still outselling the PS3, and by a longshot, says a lot.

yeah I heard its big in Europe. I dont even think I heard of it until last year. The store at least looks nice. Im hoping the PSN's rumored new look actually does look similiar

I'LL PROBABLY GET SING STAR BECAUSE, WELL, UM, I LIKE TO SING!!!:O I'VE NEVER BOUGHT ANY MUSICAL GAMES LIKE GH OR RB BECAUSE THEY SEEM MORE LIKE PARTY GAMES AND I'M MORE OF A LONER SO I DIDN'T THINK I'D GET MUCH OUT OF THEM!!!:( PLUS I'D FEAL LIKE AN IDIOT WITH A PLASTIC GUITAR IN MY HAND, LOL!!!:oldrazz::D

Agreed, save your money and get a real guitar. Some people spend 4 hours a night playing this bloody game. If they spent the same time practicing on a real guitar they'd be good enough to play live within about 4-5 months :whatever:

the controller probably doesn't hurt your fingers as much initially. it's also easier and less equipment is needed to sound something like what you hear on records.

the 360 did have a slightly stronger month than the ps3 in the USA last we saw.

Sony Europe boss David Reeves has said that PS3 has been outselling its closest rival (Xbox 360) since October 2007.

Speaking at Sony's PlayStation Day event in London, Reeves added that PS3 has now sold more units throughout Europe than Xbox 360.

It's now sold more than Microsoft's console despite 360 getting an 18-month head start, he added.

To date, PS3 has sold five million units in Europe, PSP 12 million and PS2 48 million.

Reeves said Sony is particularly proud of PS3 unit sales in Europe as it's been achieved in a similar time frame to PS2.

It has officially overtaken the sales of the 360 in Europe. It was expected to happen by summertime and it has.

A price cut in the summer of last year helped lift PlayStation 3 sales

Sony's PlayStation 3 games console has outsold Microsoft's Xbox 360 in Europe, according to figures released by Sony.

More than five million PS3s have been sold across the continent, Sony's David Reeves confirmed.

Speaking at a European PlayStation event in London, he said: "The numbers are a testament to the strength of the PlayStation brand."

He said PlayStation 3 had been outselling the Xbox 360 since October last year.

"We have sold more PlayStation 3s throughout Europe than Xbox 360 even though they launched 16 months before us."

Mr Reeves, head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, also said 12 million PSP handheld consoles and 48 million PlayStation 2s had been sold in Europe.

Despite Sony's overhauling of Microsoft in Europe, both firms' sales are a long way behind the Nintendo Wii.

Price tag

Sony has managed to overtake Xbox 360 sales despite a much higher price tag.

The cheapest PS3 is available for £299, versus £159 for the Xbox 360.

"We have been consistently outselling our closest competitor [Xbox 360] since October 2007, even with the latest price point," said Mr Reeves.

Microsoft cut the price of Xbox 360 in March.

The PS3 is far more mass market than 360, which has gone for traditional adult males
Nick Parker, games consultant

The figures will cheer Sony after a painful launch period for the machine, which saw delays, stock problems and criticism from gamers that early titles for the machine were below par.

Kaz Hirai, Sony's global head of PlayStation, said the first year of PS3 had been difficult.

Speaking at the London event, he said: "There were teething problems... and customers were a little underwhelmed by early games."

'No surprise'

He said Sony was going to promote the PS3 as a "multi-faceted interactive entertainment system" in the year ahead.

Games consultant Nick Parker said it was "no surprise" that PlayStation had overtaken Xbox in Europe.

"The PlayStation has held out remarkably well over the last 18 months despite the press slating it because of the price. People got behind the brand.

"The PS3 is far more mass market than 360, which has gone for traditional adult males - and that does not go down well in continental Europe."

He said consumers in Europe had "never gotten over the design ethos of the original Xbox."

Microsoft had set out to broaden the appeal of its titles "but never did come up with the goods", he went on.

The Xbox 360 was performing well in the UK but has a "problem on the continent".

He said PlayStation 3 had "every chance" of overtaking the Xbox 360 in its heartland of North America in the next two to three years.

By the time the PS3 overtakes the 360(if it happens at all), we'll already be on to the next generation of consoles, so itll be irrelevant. I dont see this gen last longer than 3 more yrs.

I have to admit that the PS3's rebound is impressive.

Time will tell how long this lasts.
