From what iv been told, Gamestop didnt get that many in. I plan on getting a PS3 within the next two weeks, partly due to MGS4.

I could be wrong (posted it in the MGS4 thread too), but I believe Konami's junky servers went down a month ago or so from heavy traffic from ppl flooding the servers pre-ordering the MGS4 bundle as well.

As for how well MGS4 will do for PS3's numbers? I see a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation developing. Of course the hardcore fanboys will spin the numbers to make it look like the PS3 is dominating the universe, the rest of us of course will just enjoy our consoles. On the other side if MGS4 doesn't move X amount of consoles then 'the PS3 failed!!!', if it moves too much then 'MGS4 is the only reason the PS3 sells' in the eyes of the haters. Either way I see a lot of fanboy vs. fanboy debates developing within a week of it launching.

I would have thought they got among the most especially since they have that exclusive deal with Konami to sell the LE sets, not to mention the midnight launches they have planned. I dont shop at GS, but that is the only reason why I'll be picking up my copy there

Not only that but the MGS4 PS3 bundle is highly speculated to have killed Amazon for a few hours due to massive heavy traffic and causing Amazon's share price to go down as a result.

Is that any wonder? I swear, the people who don't like the PS3 come off as having some sort of personal grudge against Sony and want the PS3 to fail just for the sake of failing.

It starts. As of this morning the new 80gb PS3 with MGS4 is on sale at Walmart. If I dindt have a PS3, I would have purchased one on the spot. Too bad WM's numbers arent counted

I've heard that as well, but the rumor going all over the place atm.

(I know hippie knows since he mentioned it)

Within like 5-10 mins of the bundle coming out Amazon servers went down for a few hours. However some guy at CNN said it was due to some site upgrade or something.

That's why I'm trying not to speculate. It's odd that Amazon came down minutes after it went online (a big selling item is something you plan not to do maintenance during right after it comes up), however they've had other very popular items up and similar problems not happen. If it was due to that, then my guess is they (like Rockstar with the GTA 4 PS3 servers) underestimated demand and didn't prepare for all the hits and the servers went down.

And its absolutely NO different on the other side. Those who dont like the 360 come off as having some personal grudge against Microsoft and want the 360 to fail just for the sake of failing. People who claim "brand loyalty" are doing so to try and justify their purchases and their own feelings of self doubt. Its some sort of inadequacy issue that said user has.

Since I haven't seen the total cumulative sales for the consoles for a long while (tho Havok posted May's #), I checked out both VG Chartz and Nexgenwarz despite knowing both are off....Nexgen has gotten ******edly off center.

They STILL have the PS3 barely over 9 million, which is where they had it at over half a year ago. They have the 360 and Wii within spitting distance of eachother with the 360 just barely over 1 million behind the Wii. I can't tell if they just heavily neglected the site, or if they just really hate the Wii and PS3 (tho even their 360 seems to be low by a million or so).

VG Chartz has the PS3 at 13.38 million, 360 at 19.18, and Wii at a whopping 27.56. Of course VG is known to be off as well, I miss NPD numbers.

Tho I think we've all come to realize the numbers mean crap, one console doing better or worse doesn't negate you enjoying the console you bought and like. Just that that's kinda the point to the thread and that's the only info I've found that can slightly update this thread.

Ya, we'd have a much more clear picture if WM was included. However from what I've seen PS3 sales in NA went up %180, so almost trippled with the release of MGS4 and the bundles. So looking at probably anywhere from 120-200k PS3 sold at it's release.

Here are the June NPD numbers

Only shocking thing there, to me, is the total absense of GTAIV on the Top 10 Software list. Hmm.

Not really. I think most people that got GTA IV, got it within the first month it was released. It had huge numbers in April/May. I wouldnt have expected that to last into June

Man, how long has WiiPlay been out? And it's still racking in 300k a month. Nintendo knows how to make easy money.

It's more about people wanting a second wiimote with a "bonus" game, than it is people actually wanting the WiiPlay game itself.

You buy a Wii, you also buy WiiPlay.

Well, right now I'm positive that I will buy either 360 or PS3 console (but not both). I haven't decided which one to get, because while I like 360's library overall, PS3 attracts me with their reliability (no RROD), ability to play Blu-ray (because I really want to watch TDK on Blu-ray DVD), and I don't have to pay for a monthly rate (although I heard 360 also offer an online service that doesn't charge).

So what would you guys suggest?

The RROD problem is much smaller then it used to be, and the free 3 year warranty for the RROD makes up for those who do get it. It takes like 2-3 weeks to get your console back. It's dumb that it happens, but it's not that big of a deal.

I'd hope you'd watch more blu-ray movies then TDK if you're buying a 500 dollar system for it. Do you have a good set-up for Blu-Ray?

You can not play online multiplayer for free on the 360. You can download arcade games, demos, DLC, without buying a subscription to XBL, but to play online you have to pay. It's only like 4 dollars a month, it's not a big deal either.

If you're buying it to play games, judge it on them.

Are you kidding, he won't be able to watch the Dark Knight in Blu-Ray and he'll have to pay sooooo much money to play the 360 online. PS3 is obviously the way to go. The Dark Knight and saving less than $4/month is more than enough reason to buy a PS3.

Very good advice.

Seeing as how most major games are now multiplatform, you really can't go wrong with either system. Both seem to be on equal footing in the games department for the forseeable future.

Ultimately it will come down to whether you love playing online and want an awsome online experience (360), or if you want you're also a big movie watcher and want to watch your movies over and over in high-def (PS3).

You're call. I personally chose PS3, not for its game library, but for its Blu-Ray capabilites.

If you're choosing just for gaming, I'd go with 360. You'd be saving in a good $50 to $100 for a console with pretty much all the heavy hitting games.

Multimedia-wise, go with PS3.

Thanks for the feedbacks. I still haven't really decided yet, but $4 a month to play online seems kinda stiff to me (I also play a MMO, but I won't be able to convince my wife that I have to have both), and Blu-ray DVD is awfully attractive. What I also haven't decided is what HD to get. Is it imperative to get the system with the biggest HD, or is 20g enough?

I own both consoles and iv really barely used my PS3. I mean i think its a great system, but i havent purchased any Blu-Rays yet as i feel they are just too expensive. I only own Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune as i feel those are really the only games that are MUST haves for that system at this point, imo. You just really have to figure out why your making the purchase. Do you want to purchase a game machine or more of a multimedia system? As for TDK, that movie will be out on the Marketplace when it releases, so if you just want to watch it in HD and dont really care to own it, then the 360 will have you covered. I suggest you make a list of all the games you want to play and which ever system has more games suited for you, then go with that. At the end of the day you are purchasing a game machine
