I think it can be more or less taken as a given that if Asa is cast, we'll be seeing all manner of coaches in the end credits of both Civil War and Spidey 2017.

Alright kids.....enough with the pettiness and attacks on other posters.....THIS THREAD IS FOR THE DISCUSSING OF WHAT ACTOR CAN BE THE NEXT SPIDER-MAN....NOT WHICH POSTER HAS CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT THE ACTOR.

Ok...we now have our first poster on probation for ignoring this.....

I'm not convinced by anyone on the list but I am keeping an open mind because I don't think Marvel have made a bad casting decision yet.

Also Garfield wasn't on anyone's list when he was cast so I don't put too much stock into these kind of rumours.

I believe he was. I'm not sure if it was the original shortlist, though.

back when Garfield was cast, weren't all the "rumor sites" and "sources" saying Josh Hutcherson was pretty much a lock on being the next Spider-Man?

then BOOM!! Sony comes out with the announcement of Garfield as their new man.

Yeah that's exactly how I remember it going. It was all like Logan Lerman, Josh Hutcherson then suddenly they announced Garfield and everyone was like HUH??? Who???

I wonder how Logan Lerman around 2007-10 (Meet Bill, Number 23, 3:10 To Yuma, Gamer, Percy Jackson) and Liam Aiken between 2006 and 2010 (Fay Grim, The Killer Inside Me) would have worked as a teenage Peter Parker.

Lerman starts to look way old these days, and Aiken is even older. How difficult is it to keep the youthfulness?

I guess Buttermilk is my choice to go to, then (with Isaac as second).
But I won't betray my Lerman. Never. There's still hope.

So... Microsoft came out with a new site today and I decided to have some fun. Obviously different pictures can have different results, but I found these two amusing:

yeah.....lol.

and what made it even more surprising was that Garfield was like totally opposite of what I thought they were going for ( younger, HS age ).

Actually Garfield was on shortlist but I will admit everyone thought Josh Hutcherson was the frontrunner for the role.

In 2000, the shortlist and names rumored were Wes Bentley , Freddie Prinze Jr, Heath Ledger, James Franco, and Tobey Maguire. Franco had actually tested for the part but when he didn't get it, they liked him so much that they cast him as Harry.

The Shortlist for MJ was Alicia Witt, Kate Hudson, and Kirsten Dunst.

While I'd love Dylan to get the role, and would be perfectly fine with Asa, I've officially thrown in the towel, because it's clear the role is going to....

The One and Only....
Billy Unger

Mines said Asa looked 15 and Dylan looked 19.

The different pictures of Dylan I looked at all seemed to be pretty consistent. I tried to only choose pictures that were taken in the last year or so as far as I could tell.

^ I knew it!
Both Tobey and Garfield were on the shortlist

Yeah, alot of times the actors who are cast , are on the shortlist. Occasionally you'll have an actor who isn't on the short list cast for a role, but alot of times the lists are pretty accurate.

Even when you look at alot of the out of left field choices who get the role, you'll find that they were on a shortlist, but discounted as possibilities by fandom and the press.

Heck, the final four for Bond back in 2004 were , Henry Cavill, Sam Worthington, Goren Vinsjic, and Daniel Craig. The director for Casino Royale wanted Cavill but the producers wanted Craig.

What if that's what happened with Dylan? Maybe Drew Goddard wanted O'Brien, but Marvel wanted to go younger? #ConspiracyTheory

Even if people didn't mind (which they did), Kevin Feige clearly minds, and has explicitly stated that we're going to get a funny Spider-Man. That means he won't want to settle for a Maguire-like performance from the Spidey actor.

And it's not just down to writing, otherwise that means that anyone can do comedy just by reciting their lines, which is obviously not the case. Certain actors can make even the most funny lines fall completely flat because of their delivery, while others can turn even serious lines into comedy gold (see James D'Arcy in Agent Carter, for example).

I hesitate to say comedy gold. But yes, I see your point.

My point, on the other hand, was just mostly sarcasm. I absolutely believe that the person they choose should be funny.

I do like Asa though, despite having never seeing his comic side. Here's hoping he has one.

If you're bored and want a different conspiracy theory, how about: FOX hasn't released the trailer for Scorch Trials yet because they're waiting for O'Brien to be announced so they can ride on his sudden burst in popularity. :o

The New Avenger title already sucks, I hope the actor doesn't...
