Watched Meet the Movie Press, and Jeff Snieder (TheWrap guy who leaked the exclusive story about the 5-man shortlist) had some interesting things to say:

Apparently, of the 5 names, 1-2 may be red herrings (a name to distract from something else) and Amy Pascal's pick was Nat Wolff. Suffice to say, I hope Marvel holds stronger control in these matter because Wolff would be a horrible pick...

Also, was great to see all the leakers joking about how obsessively crazy some Dylan fans are. Quite the trend really - I keep seeing leakers continuously beat the Dylan fanbase down. They all know that there is no way in hell that he's going to be picked. Great news!!

Still my issue with asa isn't his acting. I agree with folks he is a great young up and coming actor. It's just he is more known serious stuff. And seem more stiff and dry as others have said. We just have no bearing on if he can do humor well and not come off wooden flat or forced.

Then for me personally the other factor for me is sure asa is right height for oeyer. But with his very slime petite frame. I still honestly can see him getting bulked up much or get any bigger them he is. And like I said before I don't want to see a twig spidey now for civil war. And come 5 or so yrs later when we are getting into phase 4 films. Have him still be a thin guy. I don't want spidey to look so out of place compared to rest if the mcu heroes. Now yes spidey doesn't need to be a muscle bound wwe wrestler but the more average guy but have good width in shoulders and defined upper body muscle.

That is why someone with Dylan look is what I like to see. On top as I said dylan is a more perferd choice for roke. Again he isn't the only one who could do it. But if we got someone with his looks and the other things folks like about dylan I be happy.

Ultimately all I want is someone with a good look close to comics. In the proper height range. And can play the duality of the role right and not be flat wooden or seem forced.

As for age stuff I have brought this up many tines. It's almost uncommon for hollywood in tv or films to cast teens as teens. It's almost always 15 to 18 yr old characters played by 18 to 25 yrs old. For what ever reasons and all.

Ans for spidey case we have to remember the character won't be a darn teen forever in the mcu. Once we know for sure what grade he is in during civil war and how old he is. Still if he is a freshmen or a sophomore for either film. And with how mcu time is nearly the same as real time. The time of the yr may be different then when film is release. But if we know peter is 1st or 2nd yr of hs in first civil war and solo 1.

Again with how time goes in mcu he will either be graduating hs in 2019 or 2020. There is no way they can stretch a teen spidey for more then civil war infinity wars and 2 solo films. No logical way that mcu time would change and they keep peter forever locked at 15 or 16 yr old character.

The character will be aging and come phase 4 time. If it's similar to filming and release widow for phase 3. We will likely then see peter going through the ages of 20 to 25. And then come phase 5 is where peter age likely be locked to late 20s and early 30s comics age.

So again really there isn't that much problem if a early 20s pick was selected. The actor age will only likely be filming teen time for next 3 to 4 yrs. And someone like dylan would only be 27 by the time peter is 20. And once we get to collage age I don't see much issue there. As long as pick doesn't age so much and all that.

and again someone in early 20s still would be yrs younger then the past actors. And would have at least 4 films as the character done before the time they hit age past guys even started on first film. And who ever is picked is likely to get maybe a 9 picture deal right now. Which will cover 3 solo films. Civil war infinity wars for 3 more. And then 3 pictures in phase 4. Before they likely re up deal or what not.

but again if it was a early 20s guy now they likely could play role off and on to they are like 35 to 37 (at thsr point character be locked in late 20s early 30s age setting). Or if it's Tom or asa they likely play the role to they are about 30. Playing about 30 yr old. But in the case who ever will get role. Likely will play character for at least 5 to 6 yrs minium to 9 to 10 yrs max. Before they quit are fired and are replaced.

So really again once we are past phase 3 and teen time. I am like who cares if actor is 18 or 23 now. Age isn't the real factor. It's what the studios and audience believes said guys can play.

I want to say that, considering they arguably want to get the release of Avengers 2 out of the way first, not too dissimilar from Paul Rudd wanting to get the release of Anchorman 2 out of the way before announcing him as Ant-Man.

I would like if it's revealed this week. I just want it over. And catching up with most of the thread. Interesting to hear Tom had mole removed. It did look very distracting. Also it's neat he has dance and gymnastics background too. Which is some nice skills. But still never seen his work so I have no firm judgement on his skills. But he in looks and body and the gymnastic background I like him a bit more then asa.

As for an announcement, Marvel is just riding now on Age of Ultron's success. So maybe not this week. If Spidey scenes are set to shoot in June, we would definitely get an announcement before. I don't think they would shoot the actor before an announcement and risk it being leaked. Pretty sure Marvel wants a big announcement and is waiting for the right time.


To add to Webhead2006's excellent post above about the age, I'd like to add, that in all seriousness, Marvel is looking for the next face of the MCU. It's been Robert Downey Jr. and we know what a forceful personality he is. The actor for Spidey would probably need to be similar. He will probably be THE man from Phase 4 onward.
