Ok, I'll bite. what is even inherently "fugly" about these two teenage boys:
 what is "Fugly" about them?

I don't think they're fugly. I don't find them attractive, though. Which is fine really. They look 12 and I am far too old to be creeping on guys that look 12.

How is Asa better than Tom?

Personally, I think Asa would bring out a more interesting take on Peter. I think he'd also be a bit more of a risk acting-wise than Tom, but if he pulled it off, the pay-off would be terrific.

Tom is a safer bet in bringing out a great Peter performance, which is great. But I'd be really intrigued to see what Asa would come up with for the role.

While I wouldn't be surprised if we see Mysterio as the villain in the film, I think redditleaker is almost definitely a very unreliable source.

Still worth discussing I think

I think Mysterio is too 'out there' to be the villain of the first movie. I think the villain of the first movie has to be a little more grounded.
Mysterio is the perfect villain for a sequel because the best story with Mysterio is when he frames Spider-Man and that is only effective with a Spider-Man that is already established with the general audience.

But that's the thing; this is going to be an established Spider-Man. He's been crime-fighting in the MCU for awhile now and the audience will have largely seen him in Civil War by the time his solo film is released.

More to the point, Mysterio actually is a grounded enemy. That's the whole point and intrigue of someone like Mysterio; their threats are largely through illusions and manipulation. Since this film will be more about Peter juggling the difficulties of high school and being Spider-Man, having him deal with a mind-bending villain like Mysterio makes the internal struggle between personal and superhero life all the more engaging.

~

That said, I think the next two villains we'll be getting will be Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter. Whatever order we get 'em in will be up in the air, but I have a good feeling that'll be the two villains that we see on the silver screen next.

Am I the only one who has no interest in seeing Kraven on the big screen?

I mean sure, adapt KLH 10, 15 years down the line - although as a Spider-Man story the actor would likely object - but I'm really not interested in seeing him otherwise.

Also, Feige once said that there are other ways to show the origin without retreating it from previous movies. So it does make sense to use Mysterio as the villain. He could use illusions to provoke Peter's memories on both the spider bite and Ben's death.

After seeing the level of sophistication and nuance with Kingpin, I want to see Spider-Man have a villain like that. Save Mysterio for the sequel.

They shouldn't touch any references to the origin with a ten foot barge pool.
He gets bit, his uncle dies. We get it. Move the **** on.

Showing it in a short flashback wouldn't be that bad. Plus those memories would be all messed up, like a nightmare, since they're coming from Mysterio. For instance, we'd see a small spider approaching Peter, getting bigger and bigger as it gets nearer, finally devouring him. Or imagine a zombie-Ben blaming Peter for his death etc.

Again, for the first outing with this new Spider-Man ANY references (unless in the opening credits) should be avoided at all cost. More than anything Marvel and Sony have to drive him this Spider-Man is something you have never seen before.

Curly hair is cute. :)
And as for them both being "fugly" I strongly disagree, their not that bad looking, I think "fugly" is too strong a term.

Exactly, an opening credits sequence that breifly explains his origin.

I wouldn't mind a little bit of elaboration on his background. Sure, we know what the jist of it is, but to see THIS particular's Spider-Man origin, how it played out, what life was like, his uncle Ben, I wouldn't mind seeing something short that alludes to it.

Man another day and I see there wasn't any news. Was really hoping for it to been yesterday. I really hate this wait.

I still firmly think the actor has been locked in for at least a month by now. As I and others have brought up points that need to be set before filming.

And come on guys it's pretty much a lock it's for civil war. No where else he could show up before 2017. And really after all this tou honestly think spidey would be reduced to just a stringer scene no way that will happen. Marvel will want a big moment with him.

Again sure he won't be a lead character or have the most screen time for civil war. That be cap and then stark. But he will most likely get at least around 10 mins of scenes in the film. So something around vision deal. So thst gives us I figure at least 2 peter scenes and maybe 2 spidey scenes.

Also for the poster on newer pics of asa and tom yoy only posted asa where is tom.

As for who I want still out of them two. I still rather take tom. I still don't feel asa is the right one for the role.

I def love for mysterio as villain. He is a unique and different villain. And we have so much to play with. As for spider bite and ben death. Sure o agree we don't need to spend alot on it. But I really don't see the harm in a quick flash back of those things. We don't need to drag the film out with it. But simple quick scenes be fine. And really I would like to see marvel mark on it.

Once this Spider-Man is established and loved it would be really cool to make a movie that lasts about an hour and a half, fade down to credits and instead of doing an after credits clip you show, 'The Boy who collects Spider-Man comics' which is one of the most heartbreaking Spider-Man stories ever. THAT is how breathe new life into the origin. But it can't happen for at least two movies.

A Spider-Man Movie Clip Show, featuring a dying kid? I don't see that going down too well with people who expect a heart pumping summer blockbuster. Heart pumping, not heart breaking :o
