People keep bringing up Harry Potter. Am I the only one who thinks that the casting didn't really work out all that well in those movies? Radcliffe looked old to me in Deathly Hollows Part Two. You probably could have told me he was twenty-seven, and I would have believed you. But in actuality he was 20-ish.

That seems like a big difference to me (but now I'm starting to think that might just be me). I still think he looks older than what he is even today. Doesn't help that he looks a lot like Elijah Wood whose nearly ten years older than him, but that's veering off-topic.

I guess what I'm trying to say is. Just because someone looks young at sixteen doesn't mean that they're going to stay young looking at twenty. "Aging into the part," doesn't always work so well.

People bring up the Harry Potter example because that's the alleged model that Disney wants to use. As for the casting of those films , I think it worked out quite well. I haven't heard anyone ever be critical of what the casting and aging of those actors in their role despite how they ended up looking at the end of it. I thought they looked fine . They all grew into their roles quite well and built a long term emotional connection with the GA audience over a decade which kept people coming back to the theater. Marvel is thinking long term , not the previous Sony standard of just three films then recasting because the actor they casted who was 26 and is now 33 trying to play 19.

If the issue is looks then you're going to have the same issue if you cast a 25 year old and try to pretend he's 14 or 15 year old at the beginning of the franchise. Ultimately the concept that the production has, or the age of the actor is a judgment call on Marvel/Sony, and Disney's behalf that you're either gonna agree with, or not. I could make just as many arguments in support of the old way of casting a guy in his mid twenties with more experience play a teen as alot of fans have argued for, but ultimately I think its a bold but good direction to go.

I really don't agree that their are all these disadvantages that fans keep throwing out for casting a youth, because alot of the arguments against casting a teen are remedied by having a casting director. Now its true that a teen ages , but so does a guy in his mid twenties who's trying to play a sophomore in high school.

Yeah. I just seem to be hearing a lot of, "Well if they cast a teenager he can stay in that role so much longer!" which isn't necessarily the case. Not every twenty-year-old can pass as a high schooler. Some can. Some can't. They might cast someone sixteen and still have him look to old for the part in a few years.

I don't know....

I think I'm just not a fan of the whole "long term plan" idea. A lot can change in a few years and something something counting chickens....

True, but it is far more likely a teen in 4 years will still look like a teen than an early 20 something looking like a teen in 4 years.

What if the teen still looks like a teen in 20 years time when everyone else in the MCU has aged?

Then they'll need to consider renaming Peter Parker "Dorian Gray".

There are 3 main stages of Spider-Man/PP life;

High school years

College years

Adult years

If you are going to do a trilogy of the high school years you need someone who will pass for something in high school despite a 6 years. I don't think someone in their 20's can pull that off regardless of how youthful they look right now.

I can't say for a fact that he'd ace the role. But I can say it's my opinion he'd ace the role.

In all honesty, i hope he gets the part as well. I wouldn't be upset if he didn't but, with the way things have been going, i think he would bring a lot to that character.

Absolutely.

@MarvelFirst's comments make so much sense, whether you believe him or not. Why would they shoehorn themselves into making the character or casting the actor a certain age just because? They're more likely to find the perfect Peter Parker/Spider-Man and tweak the story around his age.

In mine and many others' opinions, that perfect PP/SM is Dylan O'Brien. I'm not counting him out until Marvel says otherwise.

I really hope that both Faraci and Elmayimbe are wrong on this one, despite the fact that they're most probably right.

But, I mean, Marvel loves the fans, they listen to them. And in this case I don't think there was EVER this much support for a casting and so much craziness sourndings it. Could and will Marvel REALLY ignore all of it just so they could cast some teen boy no one wants?!

I wouldn't mind Dylan Everett, but Nat Wolff just doesn't look like the spider man, nor the superhero type. He just doesn't have that nice shaped face or something... I dunno.
Teo Halm though! He looks like he would possibly be as great as Dylan! (Heresy, or no?) I haven't watched him in films, but I have seen some interviews from him. He isn't AS funny as O'Brien, but a lot more of a funny guy than Logan, or most of the other people suggested. He looks the part, he's funny, and he can be a nerd too. He can be awkward, but also that cool dude. Not to mention, he's only 15! He will obviously age until 2019 to be 19.
It seems like he might be the right age for the role:
CW: 16
Solo: 17
IW1: 18
IW2: 19
Those are his REAL ages, he could easily be seen as an age a few years younger, or older.
I think O'Brien would be better fit to play, but O'Brien would be 27 by IW:2, basically a 30 year old. Sure, he can be portrayed as a few years younger, but probably no younger than 24 by IW2.
So if they want a younger spidey, I'm setting my vote on Teo Halm.
Otherwise: O'Brien all the way!

I started watching Teen Wolf way back in season 1, have wanted Dylan as Peter before Marvel even got Spidey back. I hope we get to say it!
