I'm certainly not calling him ugly... but there's Martella and then there's Lerman.

Peter needs to look like he can be bullied, but also that he is capable of getting with a Gwen Stacy/Mary Jane.

I think Lerman and Mertella are about equally attractive, if that's what we're gonna be talking about now. Lerman just happens to have more star-quality to him, and probably has a few stylists and agents to help him with his looks.

And that's your opinion. Mine is that Andrew was a fantastic Peter Parker and Spider-Man. And not just simply because he could do wisecracks.

He definitely cemented his role as Spider-Man, more than Bale did as Batman. In my humble opinion at least. Bale might have been a good Bruce, but he was far from the ideal Batman. I think that honor still belongs to Keaton. Keaton's Batman isn't constantly being made fun of. I think not even Adam West's Batman is the butt of endless jokes.

Garfield didn't have quality scripts to work with (ASM 1 was the better of the two, and even that is pretty mediocre in a lot of ways) nor the quantity of movies to star in as the character to really make it his own.
Don't be surprised in a few years when the character is recast and rebooted, and very few, if any, people are talking about the good ol' Garfield days.
Once again, I think he's great in the role but some of you are talking as if he's Downey as Iron Man or Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. He is nowhere near that caliber whether you like it or not.

I dunno if you stroll the Batman forums or not, but there are a considerable amount of people who dislike Bale. I would say it's pretty comparable to Tobey.

I don't visit the Batman forums, but in general message boards aren't a reliable way to gauge public opinion. Isn't IM3 widely viewed as a disappointment/failure here? My point exactly.
Ask any one of your friends and family what they thought about Bale. If they are anything like the people around me, they will almost unanimously approve of him save for maybe a few complaints here and there.
None of this was my point to begin with, but to bring it all back in, I can almost 100% guarantee beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind that Ben Affleck will have to suffer through more unfavorable comparisons to Bale than the next Spider-man will with Garfield. Spider-man will be recast and most people won't blink an eye.
