The Nightwing OYL Discussion Thread

Nightwing's current suit (as originally designed) is brilliant for him. It's simple, emphasizing that Nightwing is about the man in the uniform, not the image or the perception.

I sorta like how the uniform is the image. Or the symbol, at least. I mean, Batman has his :batty:, Superman has his :super:, but all there is to Nightwing is, well, Nightwing. Visually speaking, at least.

Did he always have those little baton holders in his back.

Yeah, and they're not baton holders, they're for his escrima sticks.

Well, no, he hasn't. It's more of a convience depdning on if he needs them when the artist draws them, and it also depends on who's drawing him.

But for the most part, it's one of those things you're supposed to over look. Like the utility belt.

Well, the question was if he's always had them, and I'm pretty sure they were in the original design, so the answer would still be correct.

Yeah. I like how his symbol looks like an abstract symbol of a bird. Which also looks to take shape of wings spread out.

Agreed with Batman. I also like Nightwing's utility bracers. :)

The utility bracers and greaves are perfect for an acrobat. As those are about the only places a little extra bulk isn't going to restrict movement. Constructed effectively they offer protection and even support in two areas where an acrobat/martial artist can often use it, and the extra weight at forearm and shank could actually be a way to augment balance. As well as add just a touch of power to strikes and blocks.

No ****, I just didnt want to look all pretentious saying "escrima sticks" theyre batons damnit!:cmad:

I was thinking while I was reading the last Nightwing comic and I have a great idea for a new creative team to really take the book to that next level: Brian K. Vaughn & Ivan Reis with covers by Jae Lee. What do you guys think?

Considering Wolfman will be on the title for a year still, I'm really not thinking about the next creative team at all.

Still, the team does sound damn good. Although Brian K. Vaughn has said he doesn't really like writing characters he hasn't created. And he seems to be phasing himself out of comic writing as well.

I wouldn't say he's phasing out of comic writing, he's just choosing to steer clear of writing anyone else's creations.

But he's cutting back on his own creations now even. He's leaving Runaways, Ex Machina has a planned ending, Y: The Last Man has a planned ending...there's nothing else there for him after those are done.

So Wolfman is up at the plate but my question is has Dick improved as a character since Devin left the title or we still getting the same old, same old?

Well, he hasn't really had much time to flesh his characterization of Dick out, but so far, Nightwing's much better than he was before, IMO. He's much more sure of himself, and confident, and much more like the Dick from The New Teen Titans than the highly confused and, well, lost person Devin Grayson was writing.

Great--Dick's costume has a simple, dark asthetic I wished Batman had (why the blue cape?)

My only nitpick is that, according to Dan Jurgens, he wears no padding under the suit. Which is insane. Noetheless, its a great arc.

depends on the artist/colorist... i think its stupid too... stay with black! or dark dark blue!

Bah, dark blue sucks. Black or light blue, I say.

Y'know, I've always hated when the color Batman's costume blue and grey. It's black and grey or all black dammit!

Originally it was supposed to be black, but in the old comics black was done as blue due to printing limitations of the time. Spider-Man's costume was originally supposed to be Red and Black for example.
