The Nun - New Line's Next Conjuring Spinoff

Do
Warrens show up
?

I loved that tie in in the script
Yes there is a tie in but it’s just a connection to the film and they use an already filmed scene from Conjuring. But I also loved that connection to it.

Just saw it. It's really not worth going to the theater for. Very predictable, not scary at all. There's a little tie-in nugget at the end.

Sounds like Halloween may have a chance to win best horror film.

Well I was hoping for three great ones this year.

Hereditary is still the best horror to come out this year so far imho .
P.S Damn Greens where would you slot it in with the others ?

I would definitely rank it below both Conjuring movies and the second Annabelle.

Jeremy Jahns didn't like it. :(

They did?! That's so cheap. OK I'm catching this on DVD instead

My review... it's not really spoilery.

The Nun

Despite all the hype and hoopla, this movie ends up being just disappointing. It kinda takes a page of countless other possession movies where they just focus on the scares and nothing else. There's no real characters in here and what little they do have is cliched to the point of parody. I was actually laughing more than getting me to react from the jump scares. Once they introduced a certain character, it doesn't take long for you to see where it's going in regards to the Conjuring universe. They really throwing everything including the kitchen sink once they get into the last part of the movie. Valak is definitely threatening, but I can't help but to chuckle. Every time Valak shows up, they always give it its own theme song like if it was a wrestling show. It also has some odd comedic moments which would be something you'd see in a Evil Dead movie. To me this is more in line with the last Insidious movie or any number Netflix possession movies than a Conjuring movie. Overall, it's not the worst movie but it's far from being any good. Instead of watching this, go see Ghoul on Netflix instead.
5.5/10

1. The Conjuring - 10/10
2. The Conjuring 2 - 9.5/10
3. Annabelle: Creation - 8.5/10
4. The Nun - 5.5/10
5. Annabelle - 2/10

Ahh man the reception to this film is disappointing. Im wandering to even watch if its average garbage . What a ****ing shame.

Apparantly some stuff is so stupid it's actually funny so maybe my love for trash will allow me to enjoy it :D

Man this movie sounds like a total bust. I'm still seeing it, but after the winning streak this franchise has had with The Conjuring 2 and Annabelle: Creation I am really dissapointed to hear that it's actually closer to something like the first Annabelle in terms of quality. That movie sucked balls and the only reason I even started becoming a fan of this franchise is because of the last two entries. Based on the early box-office numbers it's still going to make a ton of money though.

Hmm, disappointing stuff above. :(

Very disappointing to hear all of this. Will still watch it as I've been looking forward to it.

It doesn't sound quite Anabelle bad. I would play the who to blame the writer or director game, but after Man of Steel I know how exhaustingly fruitless that endeavor always ends up being.

MESS! I read the script for it a while back and it's incredible how they destroyed it. In the original script the story is basically the same but:
- they added so many stupid 'funny' moments like Franchie taking that cross from the graveyard with him
- they added 'extra' stuff to scary scenes - the other nun in the beginning, the way original beginning was was simply scared nun hanging herself which was so much more effective, the dumb jump scare in the coffin etc.
- Hardy showed instead of just telling like with Father Burke's past
- the impossibly mangled ending. The twist of Frenchie being that dude who traumatized Lorraine is the same but the original actually has BRAND NEW SCENE with the Warrens with them walking in Frenchie's house right after he kills his wife. Then Lorraine looks in the mirror and sees Valak. What the ****? WB couldn't be bothered to bring them to shoot 15 seconds scene they just put old footage there?

Basically they made everything cheaper and shorter than it was, they also added that spitting the blood of Jesus stuff

What a shame. The story is actually so incoherent people are confused if Irene is Lorraine. I saw a comment somewhere in inevitable sequel they will actually go down that road.

I liked the atmosphere in some scenes, the music was wonderful and the actors did a great job, especially Taissa who has the same grace Vera has. But what a wasted opportunity.

Feeling very :csad: with the feedback from you guys, was looking forward to seeing this, may have to wait for DVD now, not sure. Was expecting us all to love it.

It sounds like Corrin Hardy was the wrong choice for this after all which is a shame because I really enjoyed his previous film The Hallows. Not everyone can transfer well into mainstream horror though.

Whoever did the rewrites is to blame but Hardy ain't great either

Dang... I was hoping for something entertaining. I'm still gonna see it for myself though, because that's what I do.

Still watching it. Nun of the reviews would persuade me to not see it, but disappointing that its another bad movie from TCU.
