The Nun - New Line's Next Conjuring Spinoff

They really backed themselves into an unfortunate corner with this franchise. With Vera Farmiga's character being based on a real person they couldn't do the very, very obvious which is make Taissa's character a younger version of Elizabeth Warren. How you gonna cast someone who looks EXACTLY like one of the other characters in the franchise and not connect them explicitly?

Yeah I also had an issue with that. I was convinced from early on that Irene would be connected to Elizabeth. Like the years would have just about added up had Irene ended up being Elizabeth's mother which would have made the visions and Valak link very plausible.

That's why I was like what the hell when Irene took her vows. I was sure she was going to leave the church in an official capacity by the end anyway.

Taissa is becoming a bit of a Scream Queen, I just noticed she's coming back for American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

Just saw it and I enjoyed it. Sure it wasnt a piece of art but it was fun nonetheless.

Frenchie....I loved him but also wanted less savior from him. The end reveal was sad but good tie in to the main franchise.

For a hot minute I was really hoping that Frenchie/Sister Irene would end up being the parents of Lorraine before I remembered what time frame we were in.

I dont remember...do we get the origin of the Nun painting in C2? I was really hoping to get that.

One thing that always kind of bothers me with this franchise is that prayer is kind of useless against the forces of darkness unless its for a exorcism.

Well they are sisters... lol but there are plenty of people in this world who look alike. It would've been cool if Taissa ended up as a younger Lorraine or ancestor but oh well.

That didn’t make any sense to me either. I knew she couldn’t be Lorraine’s mother (even before she took her vows), since Conjuring 2 takes place 25 years later and by then Lorraine was an adult with a teenage daughter...but I assumed they had to be connected somehow, especially after she told the priest she had visions. They were too similar for there not be a connection between, and it was one of (many) things they didn’t seem to bother with.

I thought Taissa was lovely, she has the same grace Vera has

It's this person's business if they see it or not how about you respect that?

How bout you just chill? tanita_mors, is considering watching the film now.

Yeah it wasn't good.
The blood of Jesus Christ kinda threw me off.
however, this movie still creeped me out. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a sequel which could be interesting to see given the ending.

Biggest OW in the Conjuring Universe,

2nd biggest OW for the month of September (behind IT Part I's 123.4m in 2017),

2nd/3rd (depends on whether World War Z is considered true horror or not) biggest horror OW of all time.

No shocker, people love to be scared ****less.

For me it’s about being happy that I got through/survived a scary film rather than actually enjoying being scared ****less.

Wasn't expecting this to open more than The main Conjuring films. I enjoyed it more than you guys but it definitely doesn't touch those films, or Annabelle 2. The 1st Annabelle is still the worst by far to me.

I wonder if they plan to still do The Crooked Man spinoff or was that never official?

I'd be okay with a sequel or another movie about Father Burke and Sister Irene miracle hunting. Just make better movies...

I think this one might actually beat the existing OW record (40m) for this universe.

I'm still sticking with my gut feeling that The Nun will break the Conjuring universe OW record (40m+ OW).

Yup. I called it.

Yes prayer is pointless especially in this film because they're praying to the wrong person. It doesn't matter what goes you've taken or what language you speak, consistently praying to Mary, something the Catholics are guilty of (I was raised catholic) is spiritually wrong and will get you nowhere. Christians are supposed to be praying to one person only and that's God/Jesus. When the nuns were repeatedly speaking Ave Maria gratzi a plena dominus benedictactu I was sat there laughing and knew they were all f#$%ed and true to form they all get merked.

But it appears that prayers for to other people who arent God/Jesus might be believable in these films? Marys statue lead them to the gate. But even apart from that, the crosses are almost useless and seem to only be around to be turned upside down to reveal that an evil spirit has taken over.

It's not more believable. Believe it or not many Christians and people of faith don't know how to pray nor understand the power of prayer or who they should be praying to. The devil and demons know scripture inside out and know it better than most people, which is why communication with God and its conviction is critical; and why people who are overcome with the presence of the holy spirit speak in tongues, a language demons don't understand. Furthermore, demons are beyond weak and have done a great job in convincing people and their victims they're to he feared. Angels have superior authority over demons and humans have authority over angels but so many people don't know this. A crucifix is just A symbol it has no actual supernatural power unless it's been blessed and anointed. The one thing these films get right to some degree is getting A demon to reveal their name (names are very powerful which is why one shouldn't just name their child anyhow) in any case, once a demon reveals it's identity it's kind of shot itself in the foot.

Well this was such a disappointment, it could've been great or at least good. Not as bad as the 1st Anabelle but it's not too far from it.

5.5/10

I thought it was enjoyable. That was about it, though.
