How can you come off and assert over sensitivity when you have not experienced the same thing that i have experienced? Marx you and Jman are not black how can you all dismiss the feelings of black people when you have not experienced it.

I try to be civil and respectful of other peoples points of view; I don't always succeed but i try.

Yet you are willing to dismiss my experiences and my reactions to them? I would not even begin to dismiss negative things that Jman has experienced from ignorant evil people who have a problem with his lifestyle choice.

Why are you so willing to dismiss what black people feel or have experienced for the simple fact that they are black?

BL is fortunate to never have had blatant racial hatred directed toward him; his experiences ARE NOT indicative of the experiences that most black people have had in regards to racial conflict.

I and others wish that we would have been so blessed.

On that note, I am officially done having this conversation with you Tag. I won't stand for being accused of something that I am not doing. We were discussing the use of one word to emphasize another. To which I said that simply hearing (and being offended by) the emphasing word might be a little overly sensitive. In no way am I dismissing an entire group of people, their experiences, and their feelings simply because I believe being offended by one word out of context is a matter of being more sensitive than anything else.

I apologize for my misundestanding sir. I guess I am overly sensitive to the word in question today becase of something that I experienced yesterday.

Again I apologize.

I never said that I don't see how black people could be offended at the word "uppity."

Not even close.

Once again, you're trying to peg us white posters as a bunch of ignorant, self righteous (I'd use the word "uppity" but that would defeat the purpose) jerks who think that there is no way in which that word can be used as a racist slur.

Never once did I say that.

I did say that I have never heard it used in a racist context until today (and that may or may not be true; I may have heard it but I probably didn't pay attention because it most likely came out of the mouth of some ass hole). And since, I never said that black people should get over its use.

I said that CONTEXT is important. You can't go around feeling pissed off because someone used the word "uppity," especially when that person didn't use it to be derogatory.

Tying back to the original point (and Excel really touched on this), I think it is asinine to assume that McCain used the term to spur some sort of race war. Was it out of line? No, but you know what, he probably shouldn't have said it because every apologetic bleeding heart has been overturning stones and studying every word which comes out of that man's mouth just so they could label him a "racist."

When McCain says "Obama is being uppity... because he's black!" I'll start examining whether or not McCain is racist. Until then, though, I'm going to take the high road and refuse to submit to this "let's paint McCain as a racist!" playbook.

I never said McCain was a racist because he used the term "uppity" Now if McCain says that Obama is an Uppity black person I might consider it.

Just like the whole tar-baby thing it appeard that he did not use the word in a racialy inflammatory fashion.

Well I see nothing has changed in the few days I've been gone....lmao

so if I am having relations with a white woman and I go for some backdoor lovin' and she refuses is she being uppity...??

No, just too sober....

Hey, BTW, what the hell? Yesterday everyone was on me for saying that it could POSSIBLY be a racially incitive term and it was like I smoked one crack rock too many, and today I look and other people have finally shown up to say, yeah that's actually a point. Where were you people yesterday? Bastards.

Nahhh. I was saying it too but no one wanted to listen. Whatchyagonnado?

Even greater than Andy Dick!?

jag

Greater than andy dick, nathan lane and al roker combined. There should really be some parades and statues in our honor. The lack of recognition for this I, of course, blame on uppity white devils.

"Uppity" can be used in reference to whites? I had no idea. My whole world is crashing down around me.

Good Morning.

Maybe you've never seen me write it because I think out my responses on these forums. If I were to write how I talk, the words ****, ass hole, **** and *********** would be mentioned in just about every single post I make. Not to mention, it looks better and sounds better when you use the synonyms "presumptuous" or "arrogant."

Maybe I'll start using it on a regular basis:

-Some posters are uppity about their views on Christianity
-My best friend was all uppity because he thought I had a crush on his uppity crush who was even more uppity to think that my friend and I were one big uppity couple
-President Bush is so uppity, he thinks he's the next Harry Truman

etc. etc.
Sarcastic Wit noted and somewhat accepted.

But that's what I'm trying to say V. The Conservative Right is hardly representative of the overall picture of the United States. Neither are Jesse Jackson, Reverend Wright, and Al Sharpton. They all do nothing but stir the pot to promote their own agendas, despite the fact that the country doesn't reflect their extremist views.
Okay,.. Point. Since these guys are all in the minority they can be safely ignored??
(Looking @ history and shaking head.)
Did I once mention at least a decade before the country was ready for a black president? Let me bump that up to 25.

so if I am having relations with a white woman and I go for some backdoor lovin' and she refuses is she being uppity...??

That was Just wrong.

V.
