Discuss anything involving Avengers comics ranging from Avengers: Initiative to New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers, etc. Personally, I'm REALLY REALLY enjoying current Avengers comics and the recent New Avengers issue kicked butt!

I just read Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes by Casey and Kolins.A fantastic read and a must have for any comics fan or anyone curious to see what the Avengers are all about.

Review...

-This was one hell of a read and a must read for any Marvel fan.Whether you're familiar with the Avengers or not,this is a great story which is pretty much a "mission statement" for the Avengers.

-The hostility between the team throughout the book is quite genuine and never feels so in your face or forced.Casey manages to convey that sense that the wheels can come off at any moment and send their dream crashing down.

-There is barely any action in this and rightfully so.This isn't about the villains or big showdowns.The story focuses on the clashing personalties and how the Avengers were pretty much doomed from the start yet managed to move forward and "keep the dream alive".This isn't drama for the sake of drama,the events that lead up to the breakup and reformation of the team make sense and feel natural.

-Stark is written as the control freak he's always been,Casey does a perfect job of showing him as a man who feels the weight/burden of the world on his shoulders.I liked the idea of him taking a chance on Hawkeye,Wanda and Pietro as a way for making up for his failure with the Hulk.

-Cap's entire journey and thirst for revenge never felt rushed or overdramatic.He really steals the show and has some great quotes throughout the book.Cap as the "inspiration" of the team and heroes everywhere is the idea Casey tries and succeeds at getting across.

-The scenes with Jarvis and Hawkeye were a real surprise.I've never had a real grasp on 616 Hawkeye as a character or his motivations.In just a few pages here,Casey manages to show us why Clint does what he does and what he's after.

-The Pyms,Jarvis and Rick Jones get their time in the spotlight despite the huge cast.Hank and Jan have their problems,but they get through it and have a touching closing to their story arc.Jarvis is a warm and wise presence throughout the book while Rick Jones offers some humor especially in his scenes with Cap.

I can't recommend this book enough.It runs with what Stan and Jack did but takes us behind the scenes and gives us a window into the characters' motivations while staying away from widescreen action and hellbent villains.

I really enjoy the art and dialogue of this series, but i was turned off by the fact that most of it seems to be about the polotics behind starting the avengers.

I have to say I am really liking the New Avengers
#50 was pretty great
with some awesome battles

New? Mighty? Dark?

so far mighty because it is more of a classic avengers, dark avengers has been good as well but it seems to play more on shock value and the characters havent been as well defined even if i know a few of them from other books, im yet to read new avengers 50.

Yeah, Mighty Avengers is fantastic. Very addictiing book if you ask me and it's been very intense lately as well.

I've always been interested in Under Siege, but lately I've really been curious about Acts Of Vengeance. I know it was a company wide crossover, but it was mainly an Avengers event. I found one issue of Captain America that tied in and bought it because it had Magneto Vs Red Skull, and it was awsome. So now I want more.

As for my favorates. My favorate classicy run was the 90's run when Proctor was the main villain. That was the only era of Avengers pre-Bendis that could keep my attention. I've even had it bound.

Beyond that I've loved Disassembled to current. I liked the original team of New Avengers best. I haven't, however, been a big fan of Mighty Avengers, neither under Bendis or Slott. Just hasn't been doing it for me.

You know, even though I've loved Avengers since Disassembled, I feel like Bendis missed one great opertunity that I thought he was heading toward during the first arc. He has a mixture of characters but isn't utilizing their Rogues Galary. I wanted to see the Avengers go against the Sinister Six, or Venom, etc. Wolverine's part of the team so I'd like to have seen them go against some good X-Villains. Etc. In the first few arcs they had Electro, Silver Samarai, and Sauron, but then Bendis just kinda stopped using them and went with either new characters or ninjas or the hand, etc. Looking back, I'm a little disappointed.

I never really was into the Avengers or read them before but the launch of New Avengers made me a fan. Right now its my favorite of the 3 main titles

I love quicksilver thats why i"m enjoying the Mighty Avengers because they have him written correctly ..It's the only comic book that i know of that has quicksilver .. And references to Wanda

Quicksilver joining the team is a part of what's made me warm up to Slott's Mighty Avengers book (the other being focus on the Young Avengers). I've loved Quicksilver since his stint in X-Factor back in the 90's. Wanda, I've just never cared about.

I'm satisfied with the "official" roster of Mighty Avengers. I would say there was a bit of a problem at the start with Hulk and Iron Man sucking time away from the others, as they were guest stars and not really part of the roster. Once the actual roster was assembled things seemed to get smoother, albeit with an obligatory fight against the Fantastic Four. If the book needs anything, it is a notable and distinct villain. The Unspoken is new and it has been rough getting audiences to buy into many "new" villains, but so far he's off to a decent start. If anything, revealing a dark secret of the Inhumans fits into the WAR OF KINGS mindset.

As for Quicksilver, I would say it was about time. He'd spent some 3-4 years as a deranged anti-hero to near villain to the point where some fans could have forgotten that his time with the Avengers long outnumbered his time as a Brotherhood member. Much like Pym, he had a terrible reputation to have to redeem so he fit in with the tone of the team. Plus, it has been interesting watching him play off the equally arrogant U.S. Agent in their mission in China.

Now U.S.Agent... there's someone that I just have absolutely NO interest in. I try to like him but I just don't. Well, that's not even acurate. It's not that I dislike him... I just don't care one bit. If he died I'd just shrug and bag the comic and probably forget it happened until the next issue came out.

I'm not big on U.S. Agent either but he has his place. While Capt. America is the man who defends the Americal ideal rather than a specific government, U.S. Agent is the guy who defends the government, no matter what or who, akin to a soldier. There are plenty of men like that and they get the job done. He isn't someone I would go out of my way to read about, but he usually provides good tension on a team.

Walker is a bit of a jingoist arrogant jerk, but again that also is something that can play well in a team book where he has someone to bounce off of. Such as in MIGHTY AVENGERS, he's exchanging arrogant barbs with Quicksilver and it is quite interesting.
