Just wondering, have you read or seen Wonder Boys? I know James Leer is definitely not "badass," but nobody's saying Tobey Maguire was or Peter Parker has to be. They're just saying he can't be Elijah Wood.

i was more making that commit on the, thinking that all these guys look too weak, for the role, went tobey, was pretty small and weak looking back in the day himself, and demising someone because of a role they once had, is pretty close minded, not really, arguing for Elijah, just saying

And just because casting a weak person (when Tobey before SM1 wasn't horrible and he bulked up for the role) worked in the past, doesn't mean it can work again. Another problem with Wood, MAC kid, etc. is they all look too young, younger than Maguire. That's why I don't think they would work.

yes, thats casue, tobey was too old from the start, peter in the movie, is suppose to be like 22-23 ish (maybe 24-25, by the next movie) not 30

Actually, Elijah is a pretty good actor, didn't mean to say he sucked...

But these guys are no Peter Parker to me, add on they don't even resemble Maguire in the bit. They may work for a relaunch, but not a continuation.

he looks, kinda young for his age, but, still, he didn't look like an average 17-18 y.o. that he was suppose to be in that movie (in term of real world, not TV world where we always see 20 something’s playing teenages)

**** Gyllenhal! The only replacements that'd work would be Milo from "Heroes" or Elijah Wood. But Toby is the **** and when money calls, actors accept the charges. He'll be back. I can't see Sony kicking Raimi to the curb or the other actors for that matter.

Tobey must be the first option.
And if he doesn't return, than I SUPPOSE jake is a viable option. I don't see why everyone is so high on Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He doesn't strike me as a great Peter. First of all, too young. Maybe if they revamp the franchise but no one wants that YET.

It's sort of a shame because Topher Grace (who was magnificant as Brock) would have also made a great Peter Parker for SM4. He would have been my next choice. Oh well. How about Shia from Transformers? I guess the too young thing applies there too but he'd get the humor down.

I think Milo definitely looks the part for Peter Parker, but his voice doesn't sound Parker-ish to me at all (but I'm basing this off of Heroes, the trailer of Rocky Balboa and about five seconds of Gilmore Girls).

My list goes Maguire, Gyllenhaal, then Ventimiglia if he can work on his accent.

cast someone shorter than 5'5" so elijah can look taller? what about villians? is peter going to be half a foot shorter than most of the bad guys or are they going to cast people no taller than 5'7"?

My opinion is simple.

No Maguire=No SM4.

I'm not a Maguire nut, so don't use that one. Hell, as a whole I don't really like his other movies.

But I'm opposed to EVER recasting characters, outside of James Bond flicks.

I think it hurts the integrity of the series. If an actor/actress doesn't want to come back then write them out. If Magure, the lead, doesn't want to come back... Save your money and start working on the next Marvel hero's franchise. There're plenty of characters out there to work with.
