Tom Long of the Detroit News is usually right on the mark. He gives it a C+.

Flashy 'Punisher' caters to action junkies

This is purely gutter, fanboy, Cheez Whiz cinema, but Alexander delivers the goods. This is a film whose audience wants to see a grandmother with her face blown off and an acrobatic goon get blown to smithereens in mid-air by a rocket launcher. Alexander makes sure they get it, and is shameless when outright lifting scenes from films like "Batman" and "Scarface."

Saw it last night. It's not even close to being true to the MAX series! It's cute how they took some characters names and used them. but this WAS NOT a MAX movie in my opinion. It plain sucked. I'm a total Punisher "Fanboy" (what a gay name) and I went into this with this my blinders on. I was going to like it no matter what! Well i found it THAT bad. I can't defend it. and no nerds, i wasnt expecting Dark Knight. I was expecting at least a little bit better than 2004. This was worse on so many levels. I said on another thread it's comparable to maybe the Toxic Avenger. And I'm not B.S.'ing. The action and violence were pretty weak believe it or not. The acting...well some tried. Stevenson, West, Knight, and Hutchinson did the best with what they could. The script wasn't even as good as the video game. I just don't get how they green lit this! AHHH! it annoys the crap outta me. "New York" looked ridiculously fake except for some stock footage. It really came off like a sci-fi network quality movie. I was initially think "hey as long as they pump out Punisher movies, I dont give a ****! I'll love it!" ....wrong. oh so wrong. I still want it to make money though. Maybe marvel or anyone can save this character. what else to add to my rant....
- The opening credits were eh.
- The gore or action in it werent even in the same stratosphere as Rambo (which I recognize as a "bad" movie which I loved!)
- Soap was portrayed as a complete ******. I know he's supposed to be kind of a nit-wit. But this went way beyond that. Whoever played him was was awful.
- The acting in general besides the 4 I listed above was some of the worst I've seen. Honestly.
- I guess the "lighting" looked ok.
-The editing was horrible. It all seemed so rushed.
-The ending was embarrassingly bad. it really seems like they just kind of gave up at the end at admitted "yeah we know it blows"
Ah! enough for now. I wanted to love this movie. It's really that bad. I know that's not what you guys want to hear. I wanted to ****ing kill whoever gave it bad reviews. I guess I'm on the bad guy team now. sorry.It's not my fault! dammit Lexi Alexander!!!!!

His name is Dash Mihok, he's been in a few movies and the Geico Caveman show...and he just plain sucks. I read an interview were Lexi Alexander called him, no joke, one of the "best in the biz" and that's when I knew she was an amateur and would more than likely deliver a piss poor movie which apparently she did.

I agree, but there has to be an extent to where a general result has to be made.

I may like a movie, but it may not change the fact that the movie was still bad.

I guess we won't be eating alphabet soup anytime soon, but that's what Ive been saying here all along! This is a Max film in name only. All the characters from what Ive read in the script were severely underused and now I know why she may not have allowed user feedback on her blogs; I would have flamed the hell out of her website. Yea so it looks like they fluked up again with this film, I know it looks pretty but she was light years away from the source material. We all loved the Max stories, and this is what has been dragging Hollywood down with these superhero films. Artistic integrity! Some bozo over there probably decided to one up Garth Ennis by re-writing all the Max character's bios. You CAN'T FRIKIN RE-CREATE THE MONA LISA WITH CRAYONS AND TACK BOARD HOLLYWOOD!

what the Hell Marvel you were so greedy in making a buck you ****e out your best characters to these lame ass studios!? The DC people can get a team up, a Crisis on Infinite Earths film, no instead you make us sift through these crappy ass films and yet no matter how much crap you shove down our throats we Marvel dumbasses always come back for more. Too bad critical reviews don't get movies greenlit. Examples: Fantastic Four, Bring It On, Step on Up, "____" Movie series, Wayens Brothers Careers, Uwe Boll's career, ect.

I saw it last night and was extremely pleased. I don't think most critics are aware of just how crazy Garth Ennis' stories are. This is HIS Punisher onscreen, unaltered. Trust me, if you read the MAX series of the Punisher and enjoy Ennis' take on characters, you WILL love this movie.

More. What kind of person is going to sit through a 3+ hour film? No one. Maybe the fans of the comic that picked it up long before the movie was even announced. But besides that, a 3 hour comic book film isn't going to get anyone in the theatre, and wouldn't get enough showings to make any money even if it did sell out. And I'm guessing it's only 3 hours because half of it is in slow motion.

Comic Book Movie review:

This movie was the best adaptation of the Punisher to date. No matter what your looking for in this movie, it carries the true Punisher dark shadow that you'd find in any Punisher Max comic.

Now some may say the acting is bad, but honestly lets look at the Punisher movie track record. Dolph should've never gotten the role, Thomas was a pretty boy Punisher and well Ray is the real deal.

Often i found myself looking at Ray Stevenson and seeing what i've always wanted to see. A tough, gritty, violent Punisher. The lack of diologue is what the last 2 Punisher movies needed. The Punisher is all about getting the job done. Shoot em' up and leave a bloody corpes for the rest to question.

Thomas Jane did an alright job but honestly i have never read a Punisher comic where Frank Castle had a heart to heart with fellow tenants in a building, nor have i ever seen the Punisher with blonde highlights.

At least with Lexi Alexander and Ray Stevenson we got a Punisher that kicked ass and didn't bother to take names or create an unnessesary sober story to try and pull heart strings of fans who just want to see their favorite comic book hero do the job the way they have read for years. Shoot first and don't bother asking questions, kill em' fast and hard.

The violence captured everything i wanted to see out of the Punisher. Thomas Jane made Frank Castle out to be a pissed off Backstreet boy. Ray Stevenson was Frank Castle...

The theatre i was in received a solid round of applause once the movie ended and it was well deserved.
