The Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex are the lucky suckers who interviewed Webb. Here are some highlights from that chat:

-- "The wealth of material [in the span of the comics] -- whether it's story or character -- is really profound but I also feel it's my responsibility to reinvent it in some ways," says Webb.

The director namedrops Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, pointing out that in the earliest Spidey comics Peter Parker was "a nerd with big glasses. ... What was important in those early comics was this notion that Peter Parker is an outsider and how we define that in a contemporary context [is important]. That, I think, was one of the challenges for us -- getting Peter Parker's outsider status to be current. Peter Parker is a real kid. He's not a billionaire. He's not an alien. He's a kid who gets picked on and gets shoved to the outside. The 90-pound weakling, that's who Spider-Man is when he gets bit. So much of the DNA of the character is the fact that he was a kid when he got bit. He is imperfect, he is immature and has a bit of a punk rock instinct. In his soul he's still a 90-pound weakling even after [the transformative bite]."

-- "I love a lot of the Ultimate Spider-Man artwork and story lines, there's a lot more of an adolescent, playful quality," he says. "And I think that's a big part of [the] Spider-Man universe and hasn't really been explored cinematically before."

-- As for differences between his and Sam Raimi's films, expect more stunts that are "grounded physically." His team has "spent months and months and months developing rigs so he could swing in a way that wasn't computer-generated. Obviously there's going to be enhancements and CG [sequences], but it's based in a physical reality and that's a new technique [for this film brand]."

-- The villain is "new" and "something we haven't seen before and villains help define the story in a very specific way."

Mr. Webb is surely impressed by the classic spidey comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko! Isn’t that good news for us?

Wow, it looks awesome now that it's in HD!! Thanks a bunch, man!

It does..I almost feel silly for watching the leak yesterday because it definitely didn't do it justice..
looks like Peter was on a field trip to Oscorp and that he flicked the spider-web, causing a vibration (foreshadowing hopefully) and that caused the spider to bite him. and my favorite shot has to be him sitting in his room in the costume sitting Indian style..all of the blue just does it for me. reminds me of this poster I have

Not sure how that site got a good copy, but it's still an illegal copy =) Should be up officially very soon.

Agreed. though,
I'm not fond of the fact that a lot of stuff sems to draw more inspiration from USM, but still, it does look good. I like that shot as well even though I don't love the suit. The POV shot looks awesome, but I also still don't want it to happen often.

Overall, an awesome trailer, while my skepticism remains, I am excited. That POV shot at the end was fnatic, but I still hope it isn't used a ton.

Good stuff, overall.

One thing I really think is cool is the Oscorp stuff. This could be a build up to Norman Osborn.

yeah Oscorp needs to be built up like it was in Spec Spidey..this pinnacle of science and weaponry and blah blah and norman should have a unseen presence..then again he could still be in the flick who knows..all of the Oscorp stuff looks good but the one thing really creeped me out/intrigued me was

him pulling the spider web out of his neck..geez lol

I wouldn't worry about the POV shots..why go through all of that trouble to do practical effects and have Andrew and stuntmen flying around Harlem and soundstages for weeks only to just use POV shots..I think it's something that will be cool but not overdone..I definitely got a little dizzy watching that part

dont know if anybody mention it , but it looks a lot like raimi's testing on the cgi spidey

grts yves :cwink:

I don't like the camera for this. the camera angles should be simple and should be as static as possible. the camera follows spidey and it looks like he is just crawling on the floor that 'happens' to look like a wall. film the shot with spidey climbing the simply, the 'wow' factor is already in the shot with spidey doing the impossible.

it's the exact same thing with the transformers, the wow factor are the robots no need for kinetic cameras just pull back and film all the action. cameron is a master at this as the final battle has hundreds of creatures and you clearly see all of them.

It worked, IMO.

I really hope we get a Lizard poster and/or reveal at comic-con. If they show footage of him, then I hope it leaks. I can't wait to see how he looks.

it's eally hard to believe this was filmed with a DIGITAL camera it really looks like 35m film. stunning. also is it just me or does the POV seem 'faster' in HD?

the guys who shot the film said it looks like 35m and they were right..it really does look like a David Fincher film

Awesome.

Awesome, awesome.

The films looks beautiful. It doesn't really seem very dark, just maybe not as tongue-in-cheek compared to what we're used to. I'm a happy man.

it works for a test, I'm talking about a movie where you want to wow people. look at the shot where peter is on the ceiling of a subway car, static, just focusing on the impossible feat peter is performing.

I like the line "we all have secrets: the ones we keep and the ones kept from us".

but I fear the trailer didn't have enough action to get the general audience hyped. I guess that will come later.

lol I have no idea..I'm trying to figure that out because it's not like the spider burrowed inside of him..that's a bite mark..it did make for a cool visual though
Yeah, lol. I wonder why they had the spider bite him on the neck?

I read his comment and I was like 'you're full of ****' but MAN it actually does. with depth and contrast of 35m in 3D, this is going to be one of the best looking movies commited to film. these images are a triumph, I doubt even nolan IMAX filmed shots are going to look as rich and textured as this.

The POV shot really struck me as brilliant in HD. You can see the cars below and all the smog. Let us not forget those glorious HD pigeons.
