Okay.

There is a point where PC goes to far,.. or lacks imagination.

A new Atom should be a Man who stumbles across the size/mass controls as part of his own research,.. then comes across or tracks down the original Atom because he may not have the bugs worked out.

At that point what he looked like wouldn't matter.

But by doing it this way they leave a bad taste in everybodies mouth at the thought of this.

Also,.. with ethnic heroes, I prefer you start a new character before you give the name or rehash to a different color, creed, or gender.

Firestorm would've been more of a hit as far as I'm concerned if they had kept ronny raymond as the mentor.

I think this may be intresting, How can you say this new guy is gonna be "just asian Ray rip-off" before you know he is or not. Just because he shares a job and a secret Identity dose'nt mean they'll be the same. All the robin's have similar origins (orphans, except tim drake) and share the same mantle, but all of them have distinct personalities. You never know this guy could be cool. Who knows Ray may come back and take over again or become a mentor or who knows. There are a lot of possibilties.

Robin examples are pretty bad since everyone pretty much hated Jason Todd.

No it was a case where they borught in a very unlikeable character to play Robin.

Yeah but that was the point of Todd he was supposed to be a hot head. They didn't want people to like him so that Batman could whip him into shape but they didn't let it go that far. That being said and in trying to keep in topic. I'll give the new Atom a chance

I'm fairly sure everyone's going to give the new Atom a chance. But with Ray still perfectly fine and the new guy basically having the exact same job, powers, and locale as Ray, I can't help wondering why they bothered bringing a new character in at all. The only difference between Ray and the new guy right now seems to be his ethnicity, which is a pretty weak reason to switch a beloved character with his own built-in fans out.

As for the Robins, Jason pretty much was just a Dick clone with a bad attitude. Tim's infinitely more interesting than Jason because, as you pointed out, he wasn't an orphan; he was also smarter than Dick and excelled in different areas than Dick did. In short, he had his own traits and characteristics instead of being a blatant rip-off of Dick with a bad attitude and blonde hair as the only differences to speak of. The closer to the original character you get, the more I wonder what the purpose of changing the character was in the first place. It seems unnecessary and meaningless.
