Avengers Prime (UNLETTERED) #5 Preview

Harsh. Steve-O's totally cheating on Sharon. :csad:

That page of Thor looking out over his army is amazing.

Looking forward to getting the trade of this. Have enjoyed the read so far.

More like classic Bendis not knowing or giving a s**t about what goes on in other titles.:cmad:

You know what, I take this back......sort of. That chick Steve is kissing reminded him of Wanda in an earlier issue and I think Bendis referenced Steve and Wanda's "fling" (that may or may not had happened) from Capt. America & The Falcon during Disassembled.

I'd like to think Bendis is going somewhere with this but probably not. That's my biggest beef with Marvel lately, they'll drop these subtle hints at something and not mention it again for years.

I was just kidding. He and the elf chick developed a bond. With the elf chick now not even sure whether she's alive or not and Steve marching off to war, I took their kiss as just a moment of very human vulnerability--they were both scared and sought solace in some basic emotional contact. I don't think Steve's gonna doff his clothes and go at it with her anytime soon.

Okay, so...re: New Avengers #7...there's this petty lizard-portion of my brain that totally enjoys Spider-Man being the only Avenger that can't get paid because he won't reveal his identity, and I actually think it's a good precedent for SHIELD to set; the SHRA may be gone, but it's good that the federal government is still willing to play hardball with masked superhumans. I like the Heroic Age, I like that the heroes are getting their due, but putting superhumans in total control of the government is basically as bad as putting the government in total control of superhumans.

On the other hand...I just have to give a resounding "Wait, really?" in regards to that scene. Are we really sure that this logic makes sense here? And by "we" of course I mean "Bendis." It's just...this is the Avengers, not a BevMo. They seriously can't find a way to pay Spider-Man just because they can't write a check? I mean, Hand is like "This is not a cash business" and it's like...um, why not? Any particular reason? And Danny was gonna give Peter his check and then was like "Oh wait I guess I can't sign it to you anyway" but it's like...yeah, you can. If you wanna help that bad, why don't you
A) Deposit the check that you were gonna give him.
B) Withdraw the money you just deposited
C) Give him the money.
D) ????
E) Profit! Actually not profit

I know that having Peter be employed out of SHIELD's (apparently sizable) pockets is one of those things that no one is ever gonna do because DERRR PARKER LUCKKKKK, and it's really not such a big deal at the end of the day, but I'm just sayin', it's just another one of those scenes that seem kinda funny and cute at first glance but just makes less and less sense the more you think about it.

Back in ye olden days, before Bendis revolutionized the stale and worthless old Avengers paradigm, the Avengers identicards kept a record of the heroes' DNA and scanners at Avengers Mansion could verify by DNA without having to violate their secret identities. I mean, ostensibly if someone compared Peter Parker's DNA to Spider-Man's DNA, they'd know who he was, but that's pretty unfeasible unless someone pretty much already knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man and just needs confirmation.

But obviously ideas like that were lame, which is why Bendis is in charge of everything now.

Man, it's like Sarcasm went at it with that post in an alley behind a 7/11.

Yeah there are many ways to pay Peter. Hell Danny being a Rich man he is can simply

Hire Peter Parker and pay him the avengers money as an employee. That way there isn't a weird trail. Of course BW plan is even simpler. This is just another way to force Peter into some weird "I gotta be at my lowest" issues. In the new timeline, Mary Jane basically dumped Peter because couldn't take his life but is urging him to start relationships without regard to why their relationship failed. Hell Spiderman needs to just start dating "super powered" chicks who aren't on the wrong side of the law. Spidergirl is like 16 right? Komodo needs a new BF. Ms Marvel(okay was she like in new avengers because I swear I havent seen her since siege) is totally into him. Hell date some mutant girls. Armor is like 18 right?

......Its just getting harder to put Spiderman on the top but make his life hell for no reason. I did enjoy Jessica telling Luke to shove it when it came to money.

Avengers Prime I sorta enjoy but its odd seeing them at odds when they are all okay now. Heck even in the first issue. Everyone was blaming Tony for Osbourne getting ahold of Starks armor. Because its not like Norman having the Iron Patriot armor was worse then having a avengers made up of killers and a man more powerful then Thor on a short lease.

Well, Iron Man was technically responsible for all of that, not just the armor. He had the job before Osborn and he blew it.

I liked the scene... of course they can "give" Peter the money... but methinks he wou;dn't accept it because he doesn't want to come across as the token charity case amongst his peers...

THIS scenario.... I can buy...

:yay:

Xavier doesn't just walk into a room and start reading everyone's minds...although actually, he's become such an amoral *****e in recent years, he probably does. :csad:

Or he gives some prick like excuse "it's not my fault you're thoughts are yelling it out loudly".

Xavier's been doing that kind of stuff all the time since getting half his head shot off by Bishop. Read X-Men: Legacy from right after Messiah Complex.

Is it still "Prince Namor" usually? Why not "King Namor"? That seems weird to me.

In the full preview, all the other Avengers are there, and they are wearing wool caps, and for some reason I found that to be profoundly amusing.

He was using, respectively, a warmth arrow and a super-strength arrow.
