Avengers #5 Preview

Man, faults aside, Bendis seems utterly determined to write some awesome Thor moments. Been a long time since I saw Thor and Galactus throw down like the last two pages. If I didn't already know that like 90% of the other pages in this comic tend to suck, I might be tempted to pick it up again.

Eh, Thor's always gone back and forth. I was pretty surprised Robert Rodi went so balls-to-the-wall crazy with the ancient pronouns, though. Everyone in For Asgard is "theeing" and "thouing" it up.

I can allow that. That took place before everybody died and they realized they don't have to talk like that anymore.

Haha, true. I can see how people were so against it now that there's been a big gap since it was in regular use. It's not really hard to understand, it's just really awkward and unnecessary.

Man does that team need some leadership or what? They come across so inept there. Thor's had a slew of cool moments in the first 5 issues.

Well, the closest thing they have to a leader is Maria Hill, so...

Although, really, Hawkeye should totally be stepping up and getting the job done instead of panicking like a 12-year-old. "Oh noes, bad stuff is happening around us! Please, tell us, Maria Hill: whatever are we trained, professional, veteran superheroes to do?!"

And then Maria Hill, who all but ran the superhero community during and after the civil war, tells him to "help people". I don't know why I can handle Bendis' writing in New Avengers and not here, but man, other than Thor smashing Galactus, that preview just looks...bad. Still not getting on with JR Jr.'s art here either.

So I picked up issue 1 thru 4 and I love the art.

But the story is just dragged out waaaay too long. The first issue is good, but after that its just new characters, wow, boom, wham, thor, wolverine, bam boom...

Im thinking the writer is not taking this seriously

Of course he's not. It's supposed to be a "proper" Avengers series, which means he can't have it all take place on the mean streets of New York, at night, with ninjas and lots of angst.

Mark Millar wanted to create Ultimate Kang for his last Avengers arc, but sadly decided to change the villain because Bendis was already using mainstream Kang. =\

I thought that was Bendis' goal with every mainstream villain he used. Sure seems to be the effect he has on them, at least...
