I've got faith he'll be great at the procedural parts of the show thanks to Southland.

Now what I'm curious about is this: pornstache, mustache, or no-stache?

I think that, just like Clark didn't get the Superman suit until the end of Smallville, Gordon shouldn't get the mustache until he's "earned it" at the end of this show. I'm joking.

If the show was done by the SV people, it'll be a CGI mustache in the finale. Then, fast forward a little, but we'll only see him with some peach fuzz.

He was great in Southland and Junebug. I haven't seen him in much else, but Gordon is well within his wheelhouse.

So now Ben McKenzie has played Batman and Jim Gordon. As far as his look, he definitely needs the glasses. He can "earn" the pornstache later on down the road.

Why should he look more youthful by modern standards? Most older people I know with moustaches have them because they always have had them. It was just the style back then. I think him not having his moustache is definitely a cop out.

I think in the first season he should start to grow a pencil stache. Then by the end of the season, we tease the coming of the full stache by having someone buy him a grooming kit.

In the third season, i think they should create some drama by having him lose the stache in a fire accident. The fourth season will be a stache redemption where he grows it back.
